West Zone Operations:  Conditions remained drizzly with scattered rain over the fire area on Tuesday. The weather prevented firing operations in the south and southwestern area of the fire. On the north side of the fire, key equipment arrived for specialized work to accomplish fireline preparations along Forest Service Road 19. Crews have been mopping up the western edge of the fireline by cutting dead and fire weakened trees and extinguishing hot spots. These efforts are ongoing. 

As conditions allow, firefighters are checking on various recreation and special sites within the burn area. Huckleberry Lookout and Taylor Burn Guard Station remain in place and are still wrapped with fire-resistant material. Some areas, such as the Joe Goddard Grove, are in the interior of the fire area and crews are not able to safely access them on the ground yet. Portions of Huckleberry Flats OHV Trail System were within the area burned to secure the containment line that is protecting the communities of Oakridge, Westfir and High Prairie. That area has a variety of burn effects.
The wet weather has slowed fire behavior this week; however, a warming and drying trend is expected by the weekend which could dry out vegetation. Safety of firefighters is a priority and the wreck Tuesday evening on Highway 58, while not related to the firefighting effort, serves as a good reminder to remain vigilant because there is increased traffic associated with the fire.  
 
East Zone Operations: The Alaska Team is transferring command of the East Zone to Northwest Team 7, at 0700 Thursday. “The team really appreciates the support of the community, and the partnership with Deschutes National Forest on this incident. We worked with Northwest Team 7 when they came up to help us in Alaska this summer, and we’re looking forward to a good transition,” said Alaska Team Incident Commander Norm McDonald. This transition takes place over several days, so incoming resources have adequate time to shadow outgoing personnel, gather information, and ask questions. The teams move through a methodical process to share details on current operations, hazards, and opportunities for success. Crews have finished putting in direct line around the fire that crossed over Forest Service Road 4290 and almost 2 ½ miles of road preparation was completed by the end of shift on Tuesday. Road preparation is complete along the Waldo Lake Road, Forest Service Road 5897, with a shaded fuel break 75 feet wide and 8 miles long. Crews have completed over 2 ½ miles of road preparation around Cultus and Little Cultus Lake and will continue their work in and around the lakes. The treatment prescription for the fuel breaks is developed in partnership with the Forest. The total indirect line identified is 60 miles with 18 miles completed, 21 miles in progress, and 35 miles proposed.
Weather: Light rain moved across the fire area but little accumulation was noted. Continued rain and a chance of isolated thunderstorms is forecasted.  The forecast calls for of ¼ to ½ inch rain over the East Zone through Thursday, continuing to moderate fire behavior. Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread over the fire area into Wednesday with wetting rains expected for much of the area.

Closures: Elijah Bristow State Park and Dexter Boat Launch are closed to the public since they are being used by firefighters. The Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest both have closures in effect to protect the public and firefighters. Status: The fire is 11% contained, with containment line on the west side of the fire between Forest Service Road 24 and Fifth Creek, the stretch from Charlton Lake west to the shore of Waldo Lake, and the north and west shores of Waldo Lake. Oakridge and communities west of the fire will experience the most smoke as southeast winds continue today. The West Zone of the fire is currently burning with low intensity creeping, and smoldering. Fire spread is occurring in areas with deep, dry litter and heavy fuels. The East Zone is experiencing fire behavior including creeping, smoldering, and single-tree torching. Fire growth is minimal. Sheltered heat may reemerge after the rain if fuels continue to be dry enough. West Zone Operations:  Heavy smoke and fog lingered through much of the fire area on Monday morning. This inhibited fire growth during the day but also limited firing operations in the morning. Along the south and southwestern edges, firefighters were able to make progress on firing operations along Forest Service Road 5871 and near Eagle Creek. Visibility cleared enough by afternoon for aerial ignitions by helicopter near Kwiskwis Butte. These operations reduce fuels between the fireline and the main fire. Crews continued mopping up along Forest Service Road 2409 and Forest Service Road 1928 where previous firing operations occurred on the western edge of the fire. As the wetter weather comes into the fire area, firefighter and public safety remains top priority. After steep terrain has burned, rocks once held in place by root systems or vegetation loosen and pose a hazard to firefighters. Dead or fire weakened trees (snags) can fall, compromising the fireline and presenting a risk to firefighters. Firefighters will continue cutting snags and extinguishing hot spots to secure the fire line where previous burning operations occurred. If the weather clears and conditions allow, crews are poised to take advantage of windows of opportunity for continued burning operations.    East Zone Operations: Hotshot crews are wrapping up their work on the fireline and containment line along Forest Service Road 4290. Charlton Lake west to Waldo Lake has been contained and the east side of Charlton Lake to the Cascade Lakes Highway is being improved as a fire break. On the east side of Waldo Lake, crews have completed 6 miles of fuel break, 75 feet deep, along Forest Service Road 5896 and Forest Service Road 5897 from Charlton Lake to Highway 58. More than 170 structures have been prepped on the north side of Odell Lake and near Crescent Junction, and some engines will be released today. Most of the protection work has been completed in campgrounds. Crews continue work to join Forest Service Road 4668 and Forest Service Road 4660 to create a break between Odell Lake, Davis Lake, and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Between Little Cultus Lake and Deer Lake, crews are brushing, chipping, and removing snags along Forest Service Road 640 to protect Cultus Mountain from future fire advancement. Final clean up is happening on the Forest Service Road 700 fuel break connecting Little Cultus Lake and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Heavy equipment including feller bunchers, masticators, and hydro axes continue work along the Cascade Lakes highway building a shaded fuel break 100 feet wide. This improvement not only protects values at risk from the Cedar Creek fire, but it will remain a valuable tool for managing fire in the future. Weather: For the next few days, scattered showers and rain are forecasted for much of the fire area. The wet weather is currently slowing fire behavior. However, the amount of rain accumulation expected, especially in areas of thick forest canopy, is not considered a season-ending event. Status: Higher humidity and precipitation minimized fire growth on Sunday. The fire is now 11% contained. The containment line includes the west side of the fire between FS 24 and Fifth Creek, the stretch from Charlton Lake west to the shore of Waldo Lake, and the north and west shores of Waldo Lake.

The West Zone of the fire is currently burning with low intensity creeping, and smoldering. Fire spread is occurring in areas with deep, dry litter and heavy fuels. The East Zone is experiencing fire behavior including creeping, smoldering, and single-tree torching. Fire growth is minimal. Sheltered heat may reemerge after the rain if fuels continue to be dry enough.

West Zone Operations: Moderated conditions allowed firefighters to secure the fireline in the area previously burned during burn-out operations. Crews secured the containment line by cutting snags (dead or fire weakened trees) that pose a threat to the fireline and to the safety of firefighters. Firefighters are extinguishing hot spots along the western edge where burning operations occurred the past few days. On northern edge of the fire near FS 19, firefighters used both mechanized equipment and hand crews to continue vegetation thinning and chipping in preparation of the fire backing down to the road.  

Protecting the communities of Oakridge, Westfir, and High Prairie remains the top objective for firefighters. Along the south and southwest areas of the fire, crews will take advantage of opportunities to complete firing operations when conditions allow. Using a combination of hand lighting along the fireline and aerial ignitions near Kwiskwis Butte, firefighters will continue to bring the main fire toward the control line to reduce ground vegetation and improve the effectiveness of the control line. Crews will remain flexible through the day to move firefighters as needed to efficiently take advantage of weather windows when burning operations may be feasible.  

East Zone Operations: Hotshot crews have contained the area from Charlton Lake west to Waldo Lake and are securing the east side of Charlton Lake to the Cascade Lakes Highway. On the east side of Waldo Lake, crews have completed 6 miles of fuel break, 75 feet deep, along FS 5896 and FS 5897 from Charlton Lake to Highway 58. More than 170 structures have been assessed and 90% of the protection work has been completed. In addition, most of the protection work has been completed in campgrounds; those completed include: North Waldo, Islet, Cultus Lake, Little Cultus Lake, Davis Lake, Reservoir, Osprey Point, North Davis, North Lava Flow, Quinn, Rock Creek, Trapper Cove, Gold Lake, and Lucky Lake Campground is in progress.

Crews continue to work FS 4668 and FS 4660 to create a break between Odell Lake, Davis Lake, and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Between Little Cultus Lake and Deer Lake, crews are brushing, chipping, and removing snags along FS 640 to protect Cultus Mountain from future fire advancement. Final clean up is happening on the FS 700 fuel break connecting Little Cultus Lake and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Work continues along the west side of the Cascade Lakes Highway to create a shaded fuel break, working in sections and extending further north to Lava Lake.

Weather: Showers and some thunderstorms crossed the fire area with rain amounts ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 inches at the start of Sunday. Inversions also led to dense smoke and fog through areas of the West Zone of the fire. Monday may bring some additional showers, but overall, the day is forecasted to be a little bit warmer with lower humidity and ridgetop winds. In the East Zone, today is expected to be mostly clear with a chance of scattered afternoon showers. Rain is more likely on Tuesday and into Wednesday with a warming trend later in the week.

Closures: Elijah Bristow State Park and Dexter Boat Launch are closed to the public since they are being used by firefighters. The Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest both have closures in effect to protect the public and firefighters. West Zone Update: Firefighters took advantage of brief windows of opportunity to complete almost 2,000 more acres of firing operations to secure primary containment line along the west and southwest edge of the Cedar Creek Fire Saturday. Crews were engaged throughout the shift felling snags (dead or fire weakened trees) and burning to reduce ground vegetation between the main fire and the primary containment line. Firing operations included both hand ignition and the use of drones. Helicopter operations were grounded due to poor visibility.

“The northwest corner of the fire where crews have successfully brought the fire down to the primary containment line is looking good overall,” according to Incident Commander Randy Johnson. Today’s operations on the West Zone will be weather dependent. In addition to continued firing operations as weather and fuel moisture permit, both day and night-shift crews are actively patrolling and mopping up as needed to secure the fireline. Some lightning was reported on Saturday and crews assigned to the Cedar Creek fire are ready to assist with initial attack response as needed.

East Zone Operations: The East Zone is experiencing minimal fire behavior with creeping, smoldering, and single tree torching. With rain over the next couple days, the fire on the east side will grow minimally. Sheltered heat may reemerge after the rain if fuels continue to be dry enough.

Crews are mopping up and mitigating hazards in North Waldo Campground. Hotshot crews continue mop up the fire that crossed FS 4290 and improve the road as a holding feature, working east to the Cascade Lakes Highway. On the east side of Waldo Lake, crews continue to improve the fuel break along FS 5897 to meet Highway 58. Crews continue to work FS 4668 and FS4660 to create a break between Odell Lake and Davis Lake. Between Little Cultus Lake and Deer Lake, crews are brushing, chipping, and removing snags along FS 640 to protect Cultus Mountain from future fire advancement. Chipping, snagging, and brushing is also connecting the fire break from Little Cultus Lake to the Cascade Lakes Highway along FS 700. Work continues along the west side of the Cascade Lakes Highway to create a shaded fuel break. Masticators are working along State Route 58 north of Odell Lake.

Weather: Given the size and geographic location of the fire, there are a variety of conditions over the fire at any given time. While some areas may be receiving rain, hail or even snow, other areas may not get any precipitation. The East Zone experienced scattered rain, thunderstorms, and hail on Saturday. Across the fire area, there was 0.1 to 0.4 inches of precipitation. Some scattered rain is likely to extend into Sunday with winds from the southeast. Monday will be dry before another possible rain pattern on Tuesday.

Current Situation: The increased acreage is due to firing operations that have been implemented along the primary containment line on the west side of the fire over the past few days. As fuel moisture and weather permit, more aerial ignition will occur to slowly bring the main fire toward the completed burnout. In the East Zone, light westerly winds will influence fire spread to the east and potentially consume unburned fuels.
 
 Areas east and southeast of the Cedar Creek Fire will have the greatest smoke impacts, including: La Pine, Crescent Lake, and Silver Lake. Oakridge should have moderate to good air quality through the day, as will other areas to the west and southwest. The weather pattern moving in over the weekend should dampen smoke impacts.

Oakridge Community Meeting: A community meeting is scheduled for 11 am Saturday, September 17 at the Oakridge High School Auditorium. The intent is to also stream the meeting on Facebook Live for those who cannot attend in-person (www.facebook.com/events/462741735787657 ).

West Zone Update: On the west zone, the fire has been backing downhill and torching where there are accumulations of dead and down trees. On the north side of the fire, crews and equipment continue preparing the 19 road for firing operations to keep the fire south of that road. To the west, firefighters took advantage of favorable conditions to continue with aerial ignition, working the fire toward the primary containment line. This was a coordinated effort as firefighting resources, including hand crews, water tenders, skidders, engines, and air resources were all actively engaged in accomplishing the mission. Firefighters will mop-up and patrol along the completed burnout. To the south, the fire is backing from Bunchgrass Ridge toward containment lines. The night shift patrolled primary containment lines and mopped up where needed to keep the fireline secure. Given the steep terrain, heavy component of dead and down vegetation, and continuous tree canopy, this strategy has the highest probability of success for meeting the primary objectives of protecting the communities of Oakridge, Westfir and High Prairie as well as Highway 58 and Union Pacific Railway while limiting firefighter exposure to risks like tree strikes. The strategy takes time to implement as windows of opportunity for achieving successful firing operations can be short.

East Zone Operations: The Wolf Creek Hotshots and Mormon Lake Hotshots are going direct on the fireline east of Charlton Lake where the fire crossed FS 4290. They are strengthening the FS 4290 as a holding line to prevent future potential spread of the fire to the south. Another barrier is being created by tying FS 5897 to the FS 4290 road to the north and to the Fuji Mountain trail and State Route 58 to the south. Another fuel break between Odell Lake and Davis Lake is being strengthened on the west side of FS 4668 to meet 4660. Similarly, road work is continuing on FS 700 to connect with FS 4630 that will tie together Crane Prairie Reservoir and Little Cultus Lake. Chipping operations are underway along FS 640 between Little Cultus Lake and Deer Lake. Work continues along the west side of the Cascade Lakes Highway to create a shaded fuel break. Masticators are working along State Route 58 north of Odell Lake.

Weather: The weekend will bring a low-pressure system dropping south along the coast with a chance of rain Saturday night and into Sunday. There are a variety of conditions over the fire area, due to cloud cover and aspect. Rain is predicted for Saturday, however projections vary as to the amount of rain in different areas of the fire. Some scattered thunderstorms may develop in the East Zone.

Evacuations: An updated map of the evacuation areas is available at www.LaneCountyOR.gov/CedarCreek. It is possible that conditions may require moving back to a Level 2 (Be Set) or a Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuation notice in some or all of these areas, depending on fire activity. Closures: Elijah Bristow State Park and Dexter Boat Launch are closed to the public since they are being used by firefighters. The Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest both have closures in effect to protect the public and firefighters. Las actividades que los bomberos están llevando a cabo, se enfocan en el mejoramiento de los caminos que se utilizan para control, en las operaciones de quema, asegurando las líneas de contención y patrullando las áreas incendiadas. Mientras se este trabajando en las operaciones importantes de quema, los residentes del área podrán notar un incremento del humo. En adición al trafico de los bomberos, la visibilidad será afectada por el incremento en el humo y potencialmente la presencia de neblina. Varias ordenes de cierre de caminos y bosques permanecen en efecto. Para su seguridad y la de nuestros bomberos, por favor conduzca cautelosamente, siguiendo las ordenes de caminos y las leyes de tráfico. Así como también, procure dar suficiente espacio al cuerpo de bomberos y maquinaria pesada.

A pesar de que el Incendio Cedar Creek esta zonificado y ha sido manejado por dos Grupos para el Manejo de Incendios, los bomberos se encuentran trabajando en una coordinación unificada compartiendo los recursos para combatir el fuego. En la Zona Oeste, el fuego está retrocediendo hacia la parte baja de la llanura, bordeando y ocasionalmente incendiando partes densas del bosque. En la Zona Este, la actividad en el incendio se ha minimizado; ocasionalmente se pueden observar algunas llamaradas y vientos del Oeste, produciendo un incremento ligero en el tamaño del Incendio. Dichas condiciones, consumen con facilidad material de combustión que no ha sido quemado en el interior del área del incendio. La presencia del humo continuara impactando, negativamente, la calidad del aire en la zona afectada.

Reunión comunitaria en Oakridge: Se planea llevar a cabo una reunión para la comunidad el día Sábado, 17 de septiembre a las 11:00 de la mañana en el Auditorio de la Escuela Secundaria de Oakridge (Oakridge High School Auditorium). Se tratará de transmitir la reunión en vivo a través de Facebook.

Información Actual de la Zona Oeste: El eje Oeste del Incendio Cedar Creek, permanece entre tres a cinco millas del pueblo de Oakridge. El jueves regreso a su base, el último grupo de fuerza de trabajo del Alguacil de Incendio para el Estado de Oregon, con la finalidad de continuar sirviendo a su comunidad local. El Grupo 3 de Pacific Northwest, expresa su sincero agradecimiento por la ardua labor y las contribuciones hechas por el Alguacil de Incendios del Estado de Oregon, en su afán de proteger las viviendas y las comunidades dentro y alrededor de Oakridge. Si el peligro se acercara más a las comunidades, los bomberos tienen en pie un plan para movilizar los trabajadores para la protección de infraestructuras. Como se puede observar en el mapa con el progreso del Incendio en  https://bit.ly/3S6IFUv, el crecimiento significativo del mismo fue asociado a los vientos del Este que se presentaron hace como una semana. Después de eso, la propagación del fuego fue asociada a las operaciones de quema controlada que se llevaron a cabo para movilizar el fuego hacia las líneas de contención mientras las condiciones climáticas sean favorables y para reducir la intensidad de la parte central del incendio cuando logre alcanzar el área.

Operaciones en la Zona Oeste: Los bomberos han avanzado exitosamente con las operaciones sobre la Zona Oeste del Incendio Cedar Creek. Se planea continuar con estas operaciones para reducir la vegetación sobre el terreno situada entre la parte central del fuego y la contención de este. El día de ayer, los bomberos trabajaron alrededor de Huckleberry Lookout logrando traer el incendio hacia las líneas de contención al sur y al Noroeste del Incendio. Estas operaciones de quema aseguraran las líneas primarias de contención. Cuando las condiciones lo permiten, se logran utilizar los recursos aéreos tales como helicópteros, drones y aviones, en la misión de exterminar el incendio.

Operaciones en la Zona Este: Un grupo de expertos de incendio, se posicionaron directamente a la línea de fuego alrededor de Charlton Lake en donde las llamas se desbordaron sobre la carretera forestal 4290. Los bomberos están reforzando dicho camino para ser utilizada como línea de control y así evitar un futuro potencial en la propagación del incendio hacia el Sur del área. Los bomberos están trabajando en la carretera forestal 5897 conectándose hacia el Norte y hacia el sendero de Fuji Mountain y State Route 58 hacia el sur. Se continua con las evaluaciones de infraestructuras y protección sobre el área Norte de Odell Lake, incluyendo Shelter Cove y Sunset Cove, y la subdivisión de Diamond Peak. Se continua con los trabajos en las carreteras al lado Oeste de FS 4668 para encontrarse con FS 4660, creando un cortafuego entre Odell Lake y Davis Lake. De una manera similar, se continua con el arduo trabajo sobre la carretera FS 700 para conectarse con FS 4630, lo cual unirá el Reservorio Crane Prairie y Little Cultus Lake, y alrededor del lado suroeste de Cultus Mountain con el objetivo de crear un cortafuego para Cultus Lake. También, se continúa trabajando a lo largo del lado oeste de Cascade Lakes Highway para así lograr crear un área sombreada en el cortafuego.

Condiciones climáticas: El día de hoy (viernes), se predice un clima consistente con el de los últimos días. Permaneciendo nubes bajas y la presencia del humo podría limitar las operaciones. Un sistema de baja presión se esta moviendo en el interior del área para este fin de semana con la posibilidad de lluvias.

Dependiendo de la actividad en el incendio, existe la posibilidad de que las condiciones regresen a un Nivel 2 (Listo) o a un Nivel 3 (SALGA) de evacuación para algunas o para toda el área. Los Bosques Nacionales de Deschutes y Willamette tienen Ordenes de cierre de caminos en efecto con el fin de proteger la vida suya y la de nuestros bomberos.
