West Zone Operations: Work continued yesterday to secure fire perimeter nearest to the communities of Oakridge, Westfir, and High Prairie ahead of anticipated weather that could challenge containment lines. A taskforce of engines, crews, and equipment will be arriving ahead of a new weather system pushing in from the east to aid in this work and reinforce containment lines along the southwestern edge. With the change in weather, smoke is expected to impact surrounding communities beginning today and continue over the next few days. As containment increases, efforts will be shifted toward assessing damage from the fire and repair work across the fire area. Many areas must be cleared of hazards before recreation sites and trails can safely reopen. The work to assess and accomplish this workload will be ongoing for some time.
East Zone Operations: Due to recent cooler and wetter conditions, fire activity has been minimal. As temperatures warm and fuels dry, the fire is expected to resume smoldering, but little activity or growth is expected. Although inclement weather prevented aircraft from flying yesterday, air support may take place today as weather permits. Ground crews remained busy reducing fuel loads by chipping, masticating, and removing brush. Crews were also active cleaning up, relocating equipment, and road grading. Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46 remains closed from Lava Lake in the north to Crescent Cutoff Road in the south. Highway 58 is open; however, Oregon Department of Transportation paving operations may cause delays. Please respect Forest closures. Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for a corporation or imprisonment for not more than six months or both. 16 USC § 551 and 18 U.S.C §§ 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581.
Weather: A significant warming and drying trend begins Friday as gusty east winds develop over the fire. Warm, dry, breezy weather is expected from Friday through the weekend with the potentially most challenging combination of wind and low humidity occurring Saturday.
Closures: The Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest both have closures and fire restrictions in effect. Some of these closures will remain in effect until areas that have been heavily impacted by the fire are surveyed for safety hazards. The Incident Command Post has been established at the industrial park in Oakridge along with a camping area for firefighters near the Hills Creek Dam. Operaciones en la Zona Oeste:
El día de ayer, debido al enfriamiento de las temperaturas y lluvias ligeras, la actividad del incendio bajo su intensidad sobre el área. Ese día, las jornadas de limpieza, astillado y patrullaje en el incendio fueron las tareas primordiales sobre los limites noreste y oeste del Incendio las cuales se continuarán el día de hoy. A través de igniciones de incendio realizadas a través del uso de drones, se completaron las operaciones de quema controlada que fueron iniciadas el lunes en la parte suroeste del fuego. En los próximos días, los bomberos seguirán buscando oportunidades para continuar utilizando drones y así solidificar las funciones de control. Las áreas del sureste cercana a Fuji Mountain y Waldo Lake pudieron observar un crecimiento mínimo del incendio por lo tanto se continuará monitoreando a través de vuelos. Nuevamente, esta mañana, se espera una reducción en la visibilidad en el Highway 58 debido a la presencia del humo. La poca visibilidad, carreteras mojadas y los trabajos de camino, representan un incremento en el peligro para la seguridad publica y de los bomberos.

West Zone Operations: Fire activity slowed yesterday as cooler temperatures and light precipitation influenced the fire area. Mop-up, chipping, and patrol were the tasks of the day on the northern and western ends of the fire and will continue today. Ignitions from an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS or drone) completed firing operations that began Monday on the southwest part of the fire. Firefighters will look for opportunities in the coming days to utilize the UAS and solidify control features. The southeast area near Fuji Mountain and Waldo Lake saw very minimal fire growth and will be monitored by aircraft. Highway 58 is expected to have reduced visibility due to smoke again this morning. Low visibility, wet roadways, and road maintenance combined pose an increased hazard to the public and firefighters. A community meeting will be held tonight, September 29 in Greenwaters Park, Oakridge at 6:00 PM, and live streamed on the Cedar Creek Fire Facebook page.
East Zone Operations: The fire on the East Side continues to smolder, with the potential for rain likely to further limit fire behavior today. No new perimeter growth is expected. Firefighters are continuing work on the shaded fuel breaks along Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46, focusing on the roadway northwest of Wickiup Reservoir and just south of Lava Lake. They are also using masticators to add more depth to the fuel break along the 700 Road near Cultus Mountain. Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46 remains closed from Lava Lake in the north to Crescent Cutoff Road in the South. Highway 58 is open; however, Oregon Department of Transportation paving operations may cause delays.
Weather: An east wind event will begin today and is expected to continue through Sunday resulting in lower relative humidity and increased temperatures. Winds on ridges could increase to 20-25 mph, but concerns remain low for increased fire behavior.

En la noche de ayer, el comportamiento del incendio se mantuvo a un nivel mínimo debido a la presencia de humedad y temperaturas bajas. Se continuo con las operaciones de quema controlada y se logro observar un avance moderado en algunas áreas a lo largo del eje suroeste del Incendio. La mayor parte del fuego en esta área ha sido dirigida a las líneas de control en donde los bomberos estarán monitoreando y patrullando ayudándose con el enfriamiento en las condiciones climáticas. Se continúa monitoreando áreas inaccesibles al sureste del eje del incendio con la ayuda de la fuerza aérea y en donde se presenta una actividad mínima del fuego. Las divisiones de los bomberos continúan con la ardua labor de remover arboles peligrosos, desastillado y con la limpieza en el área afectada. El recurso de asesores del Servicio Forestal se encuentra trabajando con el Grupo 9 tratando de desarrollar un plan exitoso de reparación realístico para el impacto en el bosque.

West Zone Operations:
Overnight humidity along with lower temperatures kept fire behavior to a minimum yesterday. Firing operations continued and saw moderate success in some areas along the southwestern edge of the fire. Much of the southern fire’s edge has slowly burned out to control lines where crews will monitor and patrol as the weather cools. Aircraft continued to monitor a roadless area on the southeastern edge of the fire where minimal activity is presented by the fire. Hazard tree removal, chipping, and mop-up will continue to be a heavy workload on other divisions. Forest Service resource advisors are working with Team 9 to develop an attainable repair plan for the impacted forest and confident they will be successful. A community meeting will be held on Thursday, September 29 in Greenwaters Park, Oakridge at 6:00 PM, and live streamed on the Cedar Creek Fire Facebook page.
East Zone Operations:
Higher humidity and the potential for rain are expected to limit fire behavior today. In the morning, wind is expected to pick up. No new perimeter growth is expected today. Firefighters will continue to build shaded fuel breaks along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46, focusing on the section of roadway west of the Wickiup Reservoir. Fire crews are removing signage and structure wrap from several buildings around Odell Lake. Fire managers are working with the owners of Cultus Lake Resort to enable them to safely enter the area to winterize the property. The incident management team is working closely with resource advisors in the areas east of Waldo Lake to identify appropriate fuel break construction restoration strategies that will have minimal impact upon the area’s natural resources. Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46 remains closed from Lava Lake in the north to Crescent Cutoff Road in the South. Highway 58 is open, however Oregon Department of Transportation paving operations may cause delays.

A dry cold front ushered in southerly winds today. Light precipitation will likely manifest over the fire area around 3:00 PM but confidence is low for amounts over one-tenth of an inch. An easterly flow is expected through Saturday bringing humidity and very low concern for increased fire behavior.

Los bomberos observaron un avance en las operaciones de quemas controladas a medida que las temperaturas calientes les permitieron el uso de fuego de baja intensidad profundizando de esta manera el paso hacia las líneas de control. Se utilizaron igniciones aéreas y en el terreno, en la parte sur y sureste, continuando el día de hoy, si las condiciones climáticas persisten. Se observará el humo proveniente del área del incendio sobre las comunidades locales. Se está utilizando maquinaria pesada a lo largo del eje norte del incendio para remover material de combustión peligroso en el área de las líneas de contención. El resto de las áreas del incendio se seguirán manteniendo dentro de las funciones controladas. El peligro se encuentra presente para losbomberos y el personal del incendio debido a arboles debilitados por las llamas, al estar conduciendo y así como otros factores ambientales y humanos. Los manejadores del incendio han desplegado estrategias alrededor de la Zona Oeste del fuego que presentan una alta probabilidad de éxito en el trabajo arduo realizado por los bomberos, cuando estos hacen lo posible para reducir o mitigar el riesgo para ellos mismos y para el público en general. Las condiciones favorables del clima para los próximos días deberían ayudar en el logro de los objetivos de contención.

West Zone Operations:
Crews saw progress with firing operations as warmer temperatures allowed for the use of low intensity fire to create depth toward control lines. Aerial and ground-based ignitions were utilized on the south and southeast areas and will likely continue today with persistent weather conditions. Smoke from the fire area will be visible again in the local communities. Heavy equipment is working along the northern edge of the fire to remove heavy fuel loads along potential containment lines. All other areas of the fire continue to be held within control features. Hazards to crews and fire personnel remain with fire-weakened trees, driving, and other environmental and human factors. Fire managers deploy strategies around the West Zone of the fire that offer the greatest probability of success while reducing or mitigating risk to firefighters and the public whenever possible. Favorable weather conditions in the days ahead should aid in progress toward containment objectives.
East Zone Operations:
Fire behavior continues to be limited to short flames that smolder and creep along the forest floor. No new perimeter growth is expected today. Crews are checking the fire edge east of Waldo Lake to ensure that embers are completely extinguished. Firefighters continue to build shaded fuel breaks along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46, focusing on the section of roadway west of the Wickiup Reservoir. Near Lava Lake, where the shaded fuel breaks are closer to completion, crews are using heavy machinery to remove woody debris and log loads. Resource Advisors play an important role in this work. These natural resource experts coordinate with fire managers to reduce the impacts of the fire, including suppression and prevention actions, upon natural resources. When the fire is burning in designated Wilderness areas, they consult with the incident management team on methods to minimize adverse impacts upon sensitive species. Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/Route 46 remains closed from Lava Lake in the north to Crescent Cutoff Road in the South. Highway 58 is open, however Oregon Department of Transportation paving operations may cause delays.
Weather:
The temperature, relative humidity, and winds will be similar to yesterday with improved humidity recovery overnight. The fire area is forecasted to receive precipitation up to one-tenth of an inch on Wednesday. The precipitation should off-set the increased winds to moderate fire behavior.
Closures:
The Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest both have closures and fire restrictions in effect. Some of these closures will remain in effect until areas that have been heavily impacted by the fire are surveyed for safety hazards. The Incident Command Post has been established at the industrial park in Oakridge along with a camping area for firefighters near the Hills Creek Dam. This area is in use by firefighters and closed to the public. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place. Operaciones en la Zona Oeste:
A las 6:00 de la mañana, del día de hoy, el Grupo 9 del Noroeste, para el Manejo de Incidentes, oficialmente tomo el comando del Incendio Cedar Creek en la zona Oeste. El comandante del Incidente, Tyson Albrecht, continuara con los objetivos y acciones del incidente que fueron establecidos anteriormente por el Grupo 3. De esta manera, se garantizará la seguridad de los bomberos y del público en general, así como la protección de la infraestructura y la preservación de los recursos naturales en el área afectada. El día de ayer, las condiciones moderadas del clima permitieron a los bomberos a cargo de las maquinarias y helicópteros, progresar en cada uno de los aspectos del Incendio. Las operaciones de quema controlada se realizaron de una manera exitosa, moviendo el fuego mas cerca de las líneas de control al Norte y hacia la carretera forestal 19 y al mismo tiempo, la parte sur y suroeste que se dirigen hacia las líneas de contención establecidas. Las operaciones de quema continuaran en estas áreas en los próximos días, tan pronto como las condiciones climáticas lo permitan. Debido a este trabajo, se espera ver la presencia del humo en las comunidades alrededor del incendio. Con el objetivo de asegurar que el fuego permanezca entre las líneas de control, los bomberos empezaran esta noche a cambiar turnos de trabajo. El lado Oeste del incendio experimenta un bajo nivel en la presencia del humo permitiendo al personal remover el material que protegió de las llamas al Huckleberry Lookout. En otras áreas del incendio, el trabajo de cortar y aclarar el área se continua a través de la limpieza y prepararando las líneas de control.

Condiciones climáticas:
Para el día de hoy y de mañana, se pronostica un clima similar al día de ayer, con temperaturas calientes y la recuperación en la noche de una baja humedad relativa. Los vientos se moverán fuera del sureste y se experimentara una tendencia seca sobre el terreno. Para el miércoles, se espera un frente seco y frio brindando vientos fuertes y humedad marina.

Los Bosques Nacionales de Deschutes y Willamette, han dictado ordenes de cierres de camino. West Zone Operations:
Northwest Incident Management Team 9 has officially taken command of the West Zone Cedar Creek Fire as of 6:00 this morning. Incident Commander Tyson Albrecht will carry over the leader’s intent and incident objectives set forth from Team 3. This will provide continued safety of firefighters and public, protection of infrastructure, and preservation of natural resources. With moderated fire behavior, crews, equipment, and helicopters were able to make progress on all divisions of the fire yesterday. Firing operations were marginally successful, bringing fire closer to control lines in the north toward the Forest Service Road 19, and in the south and southwest toward established containment lines. Firing operations will continue in these areas as conditions allow in the next few days. Smoke is expected to be visible to the surrounding communities due to these operations. Firefighters will begin a swing shift tonight to ensure that the fire remains within control lines. The west side of the fire has very little visible smoke and personnel were able to remove the wrap from the Huckleberry Lookout. On other areas of the fire, work continues to secure with mop-up and prepare control lines with thinning and chipping.
East Zone Operations:
Operators and firefighters continue working on the shaded fuel breaks along Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway/ Highway 46, Forest Service Road 4630, Forest Service Road 4636, and Charlton Lake Road. To keep the public and our firefighters safe, please continue to observe the Forest Closure. The large machines used to help create the shaded fuel break can throw large chunks of wood, quickly and with great force, which can damage anything they hit. Advantageous weather conditions continue to enable firefighting crews to make steady progress cleaning up fire breaks and creating defensible spaces. Fire crews have begun to remove firefighting equipment, such as pumps and hoses, from the Twin and Davis Lake areas, and sprinklers, hoses, pumps, and pumpkin tanks from the Odell Lake area. This equipment, which is used to protect structures, will be transferred to other areas of the fire. Fire behavior is expected to be low, with minor creeping in sun-exposed needle litter. Isolated torching is possible where dry lichen can act as a ladder from smoldering ground fires to the tops of trees. Any fire spread is expected to be limited in scope with no perimeter growth expected.
Weather:
Weather similar to yesterday is forecast through today and Tuesday, with warm temperatures and low humidity recovery overnight. Winds will be out of the southeast and terrain driven through the drying trend. A dry cold front is expected Wednesday bringing with it stronger winds and marine moisture.
