On the Park Fire, resource advisors (READs) have a unique role as local natural and cultural resource specialists. READs identify and analyze the effects that wildfire, and the resultant suppression efforts, has on these valuable natural and cultural resources, and determine guidelines for firefighters to minimize and mitigation these impacts. Their knowledge of the local area and of resource management plans is critical to protecting these resources.

Jake Martin, lead READ from the Lassen National Forest for the Park Fire Fire, communicates what resource protection measures are required to the incident commander. “On this fire, we’re specifically working to mitigate impacts to species of concern, like the marten, anadromous fish, California spotted owl and Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog. We are also evaluating fire effects on natural and cultural resources in the Ishi Wilderness,” said Martin.

During large incidents, resource advisors from other parts of the country are brought in to assist local personnel. READ Brad Allen from the Lincoln National Forest spends his day working alongside firefighters, checking for resource concerns ahead of disturbance, such as building fires lines with equipment or digging hand line. “We try to come up with options that are going to work both tactically and minimize impact on resources,” said Allen.

READS typically have a professional specialty such as wildlife, botany, or archeology. Many have firefighting qualifications to work near the fire line (a REAF is a resource advisor, fireline qualified). Although READs’ work to protect important resources, human safety and protecting property remain the top priorities suppressing the Park Fire.

2024 SQF Lightning Fires Area, Trails, and Roads Closure

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.S0(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. This order is effective from August 16, 2024, through August 30, 2024.
 

1. Going into or being upon any National Forest System lands within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fire Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(e).
 

2. Being on any National Forest System Trail within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.SS(a).
 

3. Being on any National Forest System Road within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R § 261.54(e).
 

4. Entering or using any Developed Recreation Site within the 2024 SQF Lightning Fires Closure Area, as described in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(b)
 

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.S0(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
 

1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
 

2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
 

3. Owners or lessees of land in the area, to the extent necessary to access their property.
 

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F. R. Part 261, Subpart A.
 

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.

in Southern California, including two crews from Saipan (the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S.
commonwealth in the Western Pacific). Fire crews continue to work together to repair and restore natural features
throughout the fire area. The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team is assessing potential post-fire
impacts to the burned watersheds. The BAER team will produce a report that describes potential threats associated
with the burned area’s post-fire conditions. There will be delays while traveling through the fire area due to work

Forest areas.
 

Trout Fire: Crews are working on constructing fire line on the western edge of the fire. Firefighters are patrolling
the area to mitigate isolated heat sources inside the fire perimeter. Fire suppression repair operations continue
across the fire area.
 

Long Fire: The fire is being monitored and does not pose a threat.

Sequoia National Forest & BLM Closures & Restrictions: The Borel Fire Piute Mountains Area Closure begins
at the northwest corner of Section 30, Township 27 South, Range 33 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, then
continues approximately 47 miles around the Sequoia National Forest Boundary to the starting point. All orders,

The Bureau of Land Management Bakersfield Office is lifting the emergency closure of the Creek Campground, a
portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, and Canebrake Road in Tulare County. The closures were in place for public and
firefighter safety in relation to the management of the SQF Lightning Complex Fire and are no longer necessary
due to the lack of fire progression. The closures are lifted as of Tuesday, August 13. Long Valley Campground and

Situación actual: El incendio de Lodgepole está localizado en el Norse Peak Wilderness, al norte de la autopista 410 cerca del Lodgepole Campground, situado dentro del Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. El fuego está ardiendo dentro de la cicatriz quemada del incendio Norse de 2017, que está llena de grandes cantidades de escombros muertos y caídos, así como árboles muertos en pie que son extremadamente peligrosos para los bomberos.

La autopista 410 permanece abierta a la circulación. Actualización Matutina del Incendio Retreat - 16 de Agosto 2024

Situación actual: Todas las órdenes de evacuación para el Retreat Fire se han levantado a partir de las 8:00 a.m. de hoy por Yakima County Emergency Management. Se permitirá a los residentes a través del cierre de la carretera 12 para acceder a su propiedad con la debida prueba de residencia.

Los bomberos han observado muy poco fuego activo en toda la zona del incendio. Hoy patrullarán a lo largo de las líneas de contención extinguiendo cualquier punto caliente que encuentren, derribarán árboles peligrosos a lo largo de los sistemas de carreteras internas para proporcionar un acceso más seguro a través del incendio, retirarán los materiales (troncos y maleza) que queden de la preparación del cortafuegos sombreado a lo largo de las carreteras forestales 1200 y 1201, y retirarán el equipo innecesario y la manguera de la línea de fuego.

Hoy a las 6:00 a.m. el mando de los incendios Pioneer, Easy y Flat Creek fue transferido al  

Equipo 3 de gestión de Incidentes del Noroeste. 

SITUACIÓN ACTUAL: El incendio Easy arde en un terreno demasiado empinado sobre la carretera 20 North Cascades Highway. Los bomberos se han aprovechado del clima más fresco, húmedo y la intensidad reducida del fuego y realizando medidas de extinción directas cuando sea posible para construir un cortafuegos cerca del borde del incendio. Han construido una línea de mano desde la carretera cuesta arriba y trabajan hacia Swamp Creek. Los bomberos están ayudando al Departamento de Transporte de Washington al remover escombros derrumbados por los deslizamientos recientes que afectaron la carretera 20, también conocida como North Cascades Highway. Este camino permanece cerrado en ambas direcciones entre Granite Creek (Poste de millas 148) y Rainy Pass (Poste de millas 157). 

ACTIVIDADES DE HOY: Hoy se espera que será baja la intensidad del incendio con una propagación mínima. A lo largo del extremo sur del incendio, las cuadrillas continuarán fortaleciendo un cortafuegos desde la carretera 20 hacia Swamp Creek para que el fuego no se propague hacia el este y el sur. Los bomberos también vigilarán el borde norte del incendio, ya que sigue reteniendo un poco de calor, pero se mantiene en el desagüe de un arroyo sin nombre. 

CLIMA y HUMO: Existe la amenaza de grandes lluvias fuertes sobre la zona del incendio hoy, y la mayoría de sitios recibieron hasta media pulgada y algunos lugares aislados recibieron hasta una pulgada. Las fuertes lluvias aumentan el riesgo escombros a lo largo del corredor de la carretera 20. El área también pudiera tener lluvias y tormentas eléctricas adicionales el sábado.

Hoy las 6:00 a.m. el mando de los incendios Pioneer, Easy y Flat Creek fue transferido al Equipo 3 de gestión de incidentes del Noroeste.

SITUACIÓN ACTUAL: El incendio Pioneer arde en las empinadas laderas del bosque sobre el valle de Stehekin, donde los bomberos luchan para proteger las casas y la infraestructura y frenar el fuego. Ayer, los bomberos continuaron construyendo una línea de mano directa, lo más cercano posible al perímetro del incendio, entre los arroyos Boulder y Rainbow hasta la línea de retardante ubicada en la cima de la cresta. Los helicópteros ayudaron con el trabajo de extinción al verter agua y retardante de manera estratégica para enfriar los focos de calor y fortalecer la barrera contra la propagación del fuego creada por el cortafuegos que se construyó y la línea retardante. El fuego sigue ardiendo en el desague de Boulder Creek por abajo del cortafuegos. Al sur del incendio y al oeste de Manson, las cuadrillas continuaron preparando la línea de contingencia.

ACTIVIDADES DE HOY: En la zona de Boulder Creek, los bomberos continuarán construyendo las líneas de mano directas para frenar el progreso del incendio hacia el norte. Los recursos aéreos continuaron vertiendo agua y retardante en lugares estratégicos en el área de Boulder Creek. En Stehekin, los bomberos seguirán revisando las bombas y asegurándose de que permanezcan en su lugar las medidas realizadas para proteger las estructuras, donde sea necesario. Las cuadrillas continuarán patrullando la orilla del lago y vigilando el extremo sur del incendio para detectar áreas de calor. State Fire Marshal Thanked for Partnership

DAYS CREEK, Ore. – After several days of structure preparation and protection, Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) crews demobilized from the Dixon Fire this morning. “Thanks in part to OSFM’s efforts, this fire is on a very positive trajectory”, said Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Incident Commander Matt Howard. “OSFM provides strong service to Oregonians, and they are good partners.” Mop up to 100 feet around structures is complete. ODF and local crews will provide ongoing structure protection and monitoring as needed.

Containment of the fire increased from 4% to 11% last night. Low temperatures and high relative humidity helped crews accomplish extensive mop up around much of the perimeter. They laid hose on the southern edge of the fire and will expand mop up today in that area. Aircraft were crucial assets in cooling down hot spots earlier this week, but their numbers will be downsized today as this need is reduced.

The public should continue to exercise caution in the local area as multiple hazards are present. On roadways, fire traffic is turning and entering the fire area off the main road systems. In Level 2 evacuation areas, residents should remain prepared to leave at a moment’s notice as fire behavior may shift. They should also be aware of the dangers posed by falling trees and rocks, burned ground, smoking or smoldering material, and any downed power lines. Rain is forecast for Saturday, which will increase the likelihood of debris falls, slides, and poor surface road conditions.
