Resumen: el Equipo Gray de Gestión de Incidentes del Área Sur realizó con éxito una reunión virtual con la comunidad el 22 de septiembre, a las 5:00 PM, con Keith Fields, (Comandante del incidente - aprendiz) y Brock Campbell (Operaciones de planificación). Situación actual: Se realizó un vuelo para tener un estimado de alta calidad sobre la extensión de acres actual que abarca el incendio, y se evidenció que hubo poca expansión del perímetro. Sin embargo, la quema de áreas verdes internas refleja el aumento de la extensión de acres. Todavía siguen ardiendo restos de árboles grandes y de combustibles pesados. Las 42 cabañas en Government Mineral Springs están bajo vigilancia en caso de cualquier amenaza.

Operaciones de hoy: Se espera que la lluvia la intensidad del incendio. Las temperaturas frescas y las condiciones húmedas permitirán una limpieza más profunda en las líneas de contención; asimismo, el aumento de los vientos podría derribar árboles que fueron debilitados por el incendio.  Los equipos patrullan las líneas en busca de árboles o residuos peligrosos, y los bomberos continuarán monitoreando y patrullando en busca de nuevos focos.

Big Hollow Fire Update

Overview: The Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team conducted a successful Virtual Community Meeting on September 22, 2020, at 5:00 PM with Keith Fields, Incident Commander (trainee), and Brock Campbell, Planning Operations. The recorded meetings are available to view on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Facebook page.

Current Situation: An inferred flight was conducted to provide an accurate high-quality assessment on current acreage. There was minimal perimeter growth. Burning of green interior fingers and pockets reflects the increase in acreage. Larger stumps and heavier fuels continue to smolder. The 42 cabins at Government Mineral Springs are being watched and monitored for any fire threat.

Today’s Plan: Anticipated rain will moderate fire behavior. Cooler temperatures and wet conditions will allow for further cleanup and removal of debris along the containment lines. Increased winds could bring down fire weakened trees.  Crews will patrol the lines for these potentially hazardous trees and debris. Firefighters will continue to monitor and patrol for hot spots.

Visitor Information: Sunset Falls Campground remains open on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest along with the Pacific Crest Trail. The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the closure order for Merrill Lake Conservation Area.

Evacuations: A Level 3 “GO” Evacuation Order remains in effect for cabins located at Government Mineral Springs near the Trapper Creek Wilderness. Area closures will be reassessed after anticipated precipitation this week. Please stay out of fire closure areas for your safety and the safety of all fire personnel. Be cautious when driving on wet roads.

Road Closures: Wind River Highway/Forest Road 30 is still partially closed between Carson National Fish Hatchery and Curly Creek Road.  It remains open north of Curly Creek Road towards the Lone Butte area.

За последние 24 часа огонь практически не распространялся. Наблюдалось его медленное движение по склону и хребту над шоссе Windy River / Forest Road 30. Все остальные участки пожара патрулируются и за ними ведется наблюдение, ликвидация последствий еще продолжается.

План на сегодня: 

Сегодня днем в районе пожара ожидаются небольшие осадки. Команды будут продолжать патрулировать линии сдерживания на предмет любых очагов возгорания и работать над расширением линий сдерживания вдоль Government Mineral Springs, включая пост охраны. Бригады будут искать потенциально опасные деревья или мусор вдоль линий сдерживания.

Информация для посетителей: Кемпинги Sunset Falls и Panther Creek остаются открытыми в национальном лесу Гиффорд Пинчот (Gifford Pinchot National Forest) вместе с тропой Pacific Crest Trail.

Overview: The Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team transitioned on the Big Hollow Fire at 6:00 PM, Monday, September 21st. The team will manage the eastern portion of the fire located on the Mount Adams Ranger District, Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Current Situation: Over the last 24-hours the fire has shown little movement. Slow creeping along the slope and ridgeline above the Windy River Highway/Forest Road 30 has been observed. All other portions of the fire are in the patrol and monitor stage, with clean-up still being conducted. 

Today’s Plan: Light precipitation in expected over the fire area this afternoon. Crews will continue to patrol containment lines for any hot spots and work to widen containment lines along Government Mineral Springs including the guard station.  Crews will be scouting for potentially hazardous trees or debris along containment lines.

El incendio de Big Hollow se ubica 15 millas al noroeste de Carson y 7 millas al sur de Cougar (Washington). El clima de hoy será fresco con posibilidad de llovizna ligera. Se espera que las lluvias fuertes lleguen a la zona el miércoles y se mantengan hasta el sábado. Hoy a las 6 p.m. el Equipo 12 del noroeste será reemplazado del incendio de Big Hollow por dos equipos tipo 3: uno del lado este y otro al lado oeste del incendio. Los miembros del Equipo 12 del noroeste están muy agradecidos por el inmenso apoyo de la comunidad, por su ayuda, y por los letreros de apoyo a lo largo de las vías.

The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Weather today will be cool with a possibility of light precipitation. Heavy rain is predicted to move into the area Wednesday and stay through Saturday. Northwest Team 12 will be transitioning off the Big Hollow Fire at 6 PM tonight, to be replaced by two Type 3 teams. One on the east side and one on the west side of the fire. The members of Northwest Team 12 greatly appreciate the outpouring of community support, offers of assistance, and encouraging signs along the road.

Yesterday’s Operations:

Crews finished the control line behind the guard station at Government Mineral Springs and they continue to monitor the area. An indirect control line was finished along the north and east flanks of the fire. Heavy equipment was moved out of the S6000 and S1000 road and will be reassigned to another area of the fire.   

Today’s Operations:

Fire crews are carefully watching the fire in case it backs down towards the Wind River Highway and are prepared to suppress and hold the fire if it reaches the Highway. At Government Mineral Springs, fire crews are continuing to patrol and monitor the situation. All other portions of the fire are in patrol and monitor stage, with some clean-up still being finished.  

Closures:

All level 1 evacuation orders have been dropped. There continues to be a level 3 evacuation order in effect for Government Mineral Springs. Area closures include most developed campgrounds, dispersed camping, most forest roads and trails in southwest Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Closures for the Siouxon Block and Merrill Lake Natural Conservation Area also are in place. The Industrial Fire Precaution Level for Gifford Pinchot National Forest remains at IFPL III.
