The evacuation order for cabins located at Government Mineral Springs near Trapper Creek Wilderness has now been lowered to Level 1 “READY”. Owners can return to the area but should be aware of the danger that still exists.

Slow down and use caution as heavy equipment and firefighters continue to work in the area.

We just received notice that Wind River Highway/Forest Road 30 is now open between Carson National Fish Hatchery and Curly Creek Road. All vehicles should use caution while driving along this portion of the highway due to smoke. Please do not stop along the highway.

ANUNCIO: La orden de evacuación para las cabañas ubicadas en Government Mineral Springs, cerca de los espacios naturales de Trapper Creek, fue reducida a Nivel 2 ("ESTAR PREPARADO") Los residentes pueden volver a la zona pero deben estar listos para salir en caso de que una evacuación inmediata. Conduzca con cuidado y precaución en la zona, y preste atención a la maquinaria pesada y los equipos de bomberos que siguen trabajando en el área.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The evacuation order for cabins located at Government Mineral Springs near Trapper Creek Wilderness have been lowered to Level 2 “SET”. Residents can return to the area but should be set for immediate evacuation. Slow down and use caution in this area. Watch for heavy equipment and firefighters who continue to work in the area.

Overview:  The Virtual Community Meeting was successful.  Questions concerning the fire, roadways, closures, and operation procedures were addressed.  Please visit the Gifford Pinchot National Forest website and Facebook page to receive up-to-date information.

Current Situation: Rain continued throughout the day, bringing much needed moisture to the fire, and preventing further spread.  Larger fuels such as logs and stumps continue to burn in place.

Today’s Plan: Firefighters will be working in Government Mineral Spring to remove remaining equipment, hose lays, and sprinkler systems. Crews will scout and patrol for potentially hazardous trees or debris along containment lines.

Visitor Information: Sunset Falls Campground remains open on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest along with the Pacific Crest Trail. The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the closure order for Merrill Lake Conservation Area.

Road Closures: Wind River Highway/Forest Road 30 is still partially closed between Carson National Fish Hatchery and Curly Creek Road.  It remains open north of Curly Creek Road towards the Lone Butte area. 

Area Closures:  The Big Hollow Area Closure order on National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the Mount Adams Ranger District ORDER NO. 06-03-03-20-10, and the Department of Natural Resources Siouxon Block including S-6000 and S-1000 roads still remain in effect. Overview: A Virtual Community Meeting, on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Facebook page, will begin at 5:00 PM. The latest updates will be discussed by our Incident Commander and Planning Operations Section followed by questions and answers from the public.

Current Situation: Over 2-inches of rain fell on the fire area. Minimal fire movement was observed by firefighters. Heavy fuels such as larger logs and stumps continue to burn in place. Crews patrolled and worked on clearing fire debris along roadways and containment lines.

Today’s Plan: Firefighters will continue containment efforts along the perimeter of the fire. Southwest winds are expected to reach 5-10 mph with moderate precipitation projected throughout the day. Crews will scout and patrol for potentially hazardous trees or debris along containment lines.

Visitor Information: Sunset Falls Campground remains open on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest along with the Pacific Crest Trail. The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the closure order for Merrill Lake Conservation Area.

Evacuations: A Level 3 “GO” Evacuation Order remains in effect for cabins located at Government Mineral Springs near the Trapper Creek Wilderness. Please remain out of fire closure areas for your safety and the safety of all fire personnel until the area can be safely opened. Be cautious when driving on wet roads.

Road Closures: Wind River Highway/Forest Road 30 is still partially closed between Carson National Fish Hatchery and Curly Creek Road.  It remains open north of Curly Creek Road towards the Lone Butte area.

Southern Area Incident Management Team Gray Team will be holding the last virtual community meeting for the Big Hollow Fire on the Gifford Pinchot Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GiffordPinchot/videos/ on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:00 PM.

The team will be giving an update to the current situation of the fire, as well as the current fire behavior. Questions can be left on this post as well as during the virtual meeting, and staff will try to answer them to the best of our ability at the end of the presentations.  This will be the final community facebook live event.  The community can continue to get updates in InciWeb-Big Hollow Fire and on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest website.
