Yesterday, a community meeting was held to announce the evacuation level has been downgraded to Level 2 for residents only in the area of South Lake Shore Drive starting from the Sherriff’s checkpoint going north. 25 Mile State Park and Fields Creek Landing remain closed to the public. Crews completed a containment line from Grouse Mountain west to Junior Point and from Junior Point to DP 50. Heavy equipment and crews continued to prepare lines to the south near Slide Ridge in anticipation for strategic firing operations when weather and fuel conditions align. Crews maintained an overnight shift, reinforcing structure protection operations in and around properties and homes. Today, fire behavior is expected to increase as the warmer weather dries fuels out. Heavy equipment and crews will continue to construct line from 125 RD to the finger. Along the southern and western edges of the fire crews will continue to prepare for strategic firing operations specifically looking at areas to the south of the fire near Slide Ridge and west towards Devils Backbone. On the northern perimeter of the fire, crews are improving the line working south towards Angle Peak. Rotor and fixed-wing air resources will continue working the fire throughout the day and improved weather conditions make the use of aviation assets more likely today. Aircraft may use local bodies of water, including Lake Chelan. Recreational boaters should be aware of aircraft takeoff and landings and keep a safe distance. The Twentyfive Mile Fire was first reported at 3:45 p.m. on August 15, 2021. The fire was initially burning on the south shore of Lake Chelan near Twentyfive Mile Creek and has expanded south and west of the area. The fire is under joint jurisdiction of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Land Management and Chelan County Fire District 7.

Reduced acreage is due to more accurate mapping. Yesterday there was increased activity seen along the southeast corner of the fire in the Slide Ridge area. Super scooper aircraft were used extensively to help reduce the spread to south and east. Engines and crews continued efforts around impacted communities, identifying hazards around structures and extinguishing hotspots. Crews were able to go direct along the fire line east of Twenty-Five Mile creek, significantly reducing the threat of the fire continuing to back down the slope towards the private property and homes along South Lakeshore Road. The weather conditions did produce gusty outflow winds and lightning was observed in the area. Crews again maintained an overnight shift, reinforcing structure protection operations in and around properties and homes.

Today, heavy equipment and crews will construct direct dozer and handline in the vicinity of Twenty-Five Mile State Park both to the south and west. Firefighters will continue to improve and secure containment lines in the vicinity of Grouse Mountain. Structure protection efforts will continue along South Lakeshore Road.

A flash-flood watch continues over the area as storms are expected through Saturday afternoon. The storms will increase the relative humidity and dampen fire behavior but continued gusty outflow winds will be present across the fire area.Rotor and fixed-wing air resources will continue attack on the fire throughout the day. Aircraft may use local bodies of water, including Lake Chelan, to fill. Recreational boaters should be aware of aircraft takeoff and landings and keep a safe distance.

A Virtual Community Meeting will be live streamed on the Twentyfive Mile Fire Facebook page at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 20th
Southwest Area Incident Management Team 1 (Alan Sinclair, Incident Commander) took command of the fire at 6:00 a.m. today.

Yesterday crews continued to work in and around impacted communities, extinguishing hotspots and reducing hazards around structures when possible. Along the southern end of the fire, near Slide Ridge crews and equipment scouted for opportunities to establish indirect lines. Crews maintained an overnight shift, reinforcing structure protection operations in and around properties and homes.

Today, along the western side of the fire, leadership from Southwest Area Team 1 will evaluate the existing road systems along the Devil’s Backbone looking for opportunities to use both aviation and ground support to reinforce suppression efforts. To the north, crews will look for opportunities to go direct along the fires edge, reducing the chances for the fire to grow to the north. On the southern end of the fire, heavy equipment will continue to build dozer lines from Slide Peak south towards First Creek Road.

Moderate fire behavior is expected today as crews continue to work. Strong outflow winds are expected with the passing set of thunder storms with potential to increase fire activity.

Rotor and fixed-wing air resources will continue attack on the fire throughout the day. Aircraft may use local bodies of water, including Lake Chelan, to fill. Recreational boaters should be aware of aircraft takeoff and landings and keep a safe distance.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team led by Incident Commander Escobar took command of the firefighting response at 6:00 a.m. August 16. Additional resources are continuing to arrive. The Southwest Type 1 (IC Sinclair) Incident Management Team have begun to arrive on scene and are expected to be briefed later this afternoon.    The fire continues to burn in timber, brush and grass. The fire size is estimated at 9,800 acres. Crews staffed the fire overnight and continued to reinforce structure protection lines. Overnight, crews were challenged by fire moving towards Lakeshore Road near the Twentyfive Mile drainage. Crews were able to engage the fire and prevent further movement toward the road and structures.

Moderate fire behavior is expected today as crews continue to work. Higher winds with strong gusts have the potential to increase fire activity. Today crews will work on constructing and reinforcing new containment lines. The fire may continue to move to the south and east. Rotor and fixed-wing air resources will continue attack on the fire throughout the day. Aircraft may use local bodies of water, including Lake Chelan, to fill. Recreational boaters should be aware of aircraft takeoff and landings and keep a safe distance.
