Situación Actual: Ayer, los personales de operaciones del Southern Area Gold Team y Northwest Team 10 se pasaron el día juntos examinando el área del incendio. Special note: Last night, at 6pm, command of the Cameron Peak Fire was transferred to the Southern Area Gold Team. The SA Gold Team thanks the Northwest Incident Management Team 10 for their dedication to this fire and for a smooth transition of command. We look forward to serving the community over the coming days and thank you for the warm welcome we have already begun to receive.

Current Situation: Yesterday, operations staff from the Southern Area Gold Team spent the day scouting the fire area with operations staff from Northwest Team 10. This provided the opportunity to gain knowledge and familiarity with geography, fire impacts, and the state of current suppression and repair efforts. The SA Gold Team’s Operations Chief was able to fly over the fire for reconnaissance, and he reported no visible smoke in the area that helicopters worked yesterday, thus, no water drops were needed. There are still heavy logs and stumps smoldering in the Pingree Park area, so smoke may still be visible today; however, the Fire Behavior Specialist does not predict any significant amounts of smoke. Both a Type 1 (heavy) and a Type 3 (light) helicopter remain available to the Cameron Peak Fire to use for water drops as needed and appropriate.

The majority of the Cameron Peak Fire remains in suppression repair and rehabilitation. In Division D in the northwest, Division L in the north, and Division T on the east, crews and heavy equipment continue the work of rehabilitating both hand and dozer line, chipping slash, and skidding and processing wood. Divisions X and Y are in patrol and monitor status, and most resources in this area have been relocated to other areas of the fire where there is more need. The Pingree Park area is still in “suppression” status and repair efforts are also taking place here. Today, hand crews will keep mopping up around the CSU campus and monitor for any smoke. Air resources will still drop water on inaccessible areas if called for and if weather allows. Some heat remains near the North Fork slop-over (“the bulge”), and fire managers are closely monitoring this area.

Advisories:

· Please do not fly drones over the fire area where helicopters are working. WE CANNOT FLY IF YOU DO.

· Please respect road closures. Traffic has been seen on closed roads in the fire area (particularly along 86), and this creates safety issues for firefighters and for you if you drive on closed roads. Please stay safe and help us stay safe.

Weather: Today will bring increasing clouds and a chance for precipitation spreading from west to east across the fire. The fire area may see snow as well as rain turning into snow. Some areas over the fire could receive one to two inches of snow accumulation. Temperatures should be 30-40 above 8,000 ft and 40-50 below 8,000 ft. Minimum humidity is forecast for 45-55% above 8,000 ft and 35-45 below 8,000 ft. Winds on the west side of the fire will be WSW at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, then SW after 12pm at 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Winds on the east side of the fire will be terrain driven at 5-10 mph, becoming SW at 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph after 10am. Tuesday brings a cold, dry front to the area and another round of strong winds Tuesday into Wednesday.

Tonight at 6pm, an orderly transition will take place, and the Southern Area Gold Team (type 2) will assume command of the fire. Today, the two teams will work together to ensure an appropriate transfer of knowledge. As NWT10 Incident Commander Al Lawson recently noted, “the outpouring of support from the public has not gone unnoticed”. NWT10 thanks this community for its enduring support, kindness, and constant words of encouragement.   

 

Current Situation: Fire danger is more elevated today than the past several days, with a more unstable atmosphere and dry, gusty winds predicted. Because of this, more smoke may be visible from isolated, interior hot spots than it has in the past several days.  

 

Helicopters were able to fly again yesterday, and they dropped 20 loads of water in the Pingree Park area. More water drops were planned; however, a drone was discovered to be flying over the fire area. This caused all aircraft to be grounded due to safety issues. PLEASE DO NOT FLY DRONES OVER THE FIRE AREA WHERE HELICOPTERS ARE WORKING. WE CANNOT FLY IF YOU DO. Additionally, fire managers are asking the public to respect road closures. Traffic has been seen on closed roads in the fire area (particularly along 86), and this creates safety issues for firefighters as well as the public. Please stay safe and help us stay safe. 

 

In Division D in the northwest yesterday, dozer line rehabilitation of the 501 spur-road was completed, and crews were skidding and processing in Sand Creek. They also began processing along the 212B Road; they will continue this work today. In Division L in the north, crews completed the Bellaire Lake dozer line repair as well as repair of handline in this area. Work on the equestrian trail continues, and on the 509 to Molly Lake. In Division T on the east, crews repaired dozer line in Sky Ranch area and rehabilitated handline near the 407. A helicopter performed 20 water drops in Pingree Park, and there were no visible smokes left after these operations. Today, winds will dictate whether helicopters can fly. No smokes were visible near the North Fork slop-over (“the bulge”) yesterday. Divisions X/Y in the south are now in patrol status. A Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) flew over the Pingree Park and North Fork slop-over areas to check for hotspots, and there are still some areas of isolated heat. As weather allows, MMAs will continue these missions to observe for changes. 

 

A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team is working on the Cameron Peak Fire to evaluate impacts of the fire across the burned area and prescribe emergency stabilization treatments on Federal Lands. WEATHER: Today should be sunny with a few high clouds in the evening. A dry front is approaching the fire area, with temperatures warmer than average at 35-45 above 8000 ft and 40-50 below 8000 ft. Humidity may be as low as 15%. Winds on the west side of the fire will come from the west at 5-10 mph with gusts to 15, then become WSW at 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 after 12pm, and gusts to 40 after 6pm. Overnight winds could reach as high as 60mph. Winds on the east side of the fire will be terrain driven at 5-10 mph. Windy conditions persist into Monday, but will slowly diminish over the course of the day as increasing clouds move over the fire. Next chance for precipitation comes Monday night through Tuesday, followed by another round of strong winds Tuesday night.

Nota especial: El Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 10 (NWT10) permanecerá en el mando del incendio Cameron Peak hasta parte del domingo 22 de noviembre. Over the weekend, the two teams will work together to create an orderly transition of knowledge and ensure a smooth transition of command. 

 

Current Situation: Yesterday, winds over the Cameron Peak Fire were much calmer than previous days, gusting no more than 20 mph. These conditions permitted air resources to fly, and helicopters dropped just over 5000 gallons of water on hotspots in the Pingree Park area. Similar weather is predicted for tomorrow, and fire managers hope to utilize air resources once again. Fire suppression efforts in the Pingree Park area remain a priority.  

 

Yesterday in Division D in the northwest, rehabilitation of the dozer lines off the 501 spur-road continued along with road grading in the area. Crews and equipment operators skidded and processed wood in the Sand Creek area. Fire staff will keep working on these projects today. Yesterday on the north side in Division L, crews worked on the equestrian trail and 509 to Molly Lake trail. They also began some repair work in the Bellaire Lake area and will continue this work tomorrow. On the east in Division T, U, and V on the east, Resource Advisors inspected and approved rehabilitation work on the 407. Crews completed the rehabilitation of handline in the CSU campus area. Dozer line rehab began in the Sky Ranch area. There was less visible smoke in the Pingree Park area yesterday, and water drops were effective in cooling those that were present. Today, crews will continue their work in Pingree Park and in the Sky Ranch area, and, weather permitting, helicopters will perform water drops again in this area. Yesterday in Divisions X/Y in the south, the repairs on Storm Mountain area were completed. Helicopters dropped water on a smoke that was seen south of Signal Mountain near “the bulge”. Crews will patrol this area today and monitor for any more smokes. 

 

A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team is working on the Cameron Peak Fire. BAER teams are staffed by specially trained professionals: hydrologists, soil scientists, engineers, biologists, vegetation specialists, archeologists, and others who rapidly evaluate impacts of the fire across the burned area and prescribe emergency stabilization treatments on Federal Lands. Current Situation: Fire behavior was minimal again yesterday; it was limited to smoldering in the uncontained area on the south. Winds prevented helicopters from making any water drops in this area. The Cameron Peak Fire Behavior Analyst has explained that the winds—in combination with present moisture levels—are doing some good; they help the smoldering fire consume the still-available fuels while the moisture inhibits spread. Fire managers still have the goal of utilizing water drops on areas near Pingree Park and “the bulge,” and they will continue looking for opportunities. Fire suppression efforts in this area remain a priority; today’s weather looks promising for air missions.

 

During the repair and rehabilitation efforts that are now the focus of much of the Cameron Peak Fire area, fire managers and crews work closely with “Resource Advisors” (READs). READs coordinate with local specialists such as biologists, archaeologists, engineers, and recreation specialists to identify potential impacts of suppression activities and provide guidance and recommendations for rehabilitation efforts. Yesterday in Division D in the northwest, READs helped direct rehabilitation of dozer lines coming off the 501 spur-road. Processing of wood took place in the Sand Creek area, and road crews plowed snow for access. Some chipping operations had to be temporarily halted in this area due to very slick roads. This repair, processing and chipping work will continue today. In Division L on the north, crews are making further progress on the equestrian trail and Molly Lake to Mount Plover sections. They will continue this work today. In Division T, U, and V on the east, crews completed the dozer rehab on the 407 and they finished chipping operations on Buckhorn Rd. Rehabilitation of fire line took place in the Rainbow Rook and CSU campus areas. Ground crews mopped up smoldering areas in Pingree Park until weather no longer allowed. Today, crews will keep repairing dozer and hand line, and ground and air suppression efforts in the Pingree Park area will be dictated by weather. Yesterday in Divisions X/Y on the south, engine crews helped create access through areas filled with blowdown, and today crews will repair an area on Storm Mountain.

The Southern Area Gold Team, another highly skilled, Type 2 Incident Management Team, is mobilizing from the southeast United States and will assume command of the Cameron Peak Fire over the weekend. This incoming team will spend Saturday shadowing members of NWT10 to ensure an efficient and smooth transition of knowledge.

 

Current Situation: Wednesday was another successful day on the Cameron Peak Fire, with crews continuing suppression repair and rehabilitation throughout the fire area. Winds were measured at gusts up to 50 mph in some areas; containment withstood these winds with no fire spread or spotting.

 

Yesterday, in Division D on the northwest side of the fire, crews chipped along the 333 road, processed wood along the 173 and 523 roads, and rehabilitated near the 501 and 86 roads. Crews will continue this same work today. Ground support is still plowing snow in this division to allow access to and removal of unneeded equipment. In Division L on the north, work on the Boy Scout camp area is nearly complete. Personnel are conducting repair work between Mount Plover and Molly Lake. Crews are still working on the equestrian trail, dispersing slash and repairing berms. In Division T, U, and V on the east, crews completed the dozer line rehab near Crystal Mountain yesterday. Dozer line rehab continues along the 407 road, and this should be nearly complete today. Chipping on Buckhorn Rd. is also nearing completion. Yesterday’s high winds prevented helicopters from flying and performing water drops in the Pingree Park area, however, ground crews were still able to work on some areas of heat here, dispersing fuel and extinguishing hot spots. They will do so again today if conditions are safe. In Divisions X and Y on the south, the dozer line repair is complete. Most resources in this area are moving to other areas of the fire where there is more work to be done. There are still some areas of isolated heat in the “the bulge.” Aircraft remain available to work here and in the Pingree Park areas; weather will dictate if they can be utilized today.

WEATHER: Weather should remain mostly sunny, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs 30-40 and 45-55 above 8000ft. Minimum humidity is predicted to be 45-55% and 30-35% below 8000ft. Winds will be WSW at 25-45 mph in various areas of the fire, with gusts as high as 55 mph before 11am. Winds will begin to moderate in the afternoon. A cold front is on its way, with a chance of snow Friday and Saturday.
