Green Ridge Fire Update for August 26
Fire lines held again yesterday on the Green Ridge Fire and crews continued mopping up hotspots. One area on the north side and one area on the east side are challenging efforts. On the north side, crews continue to find and contain spot fires in a location dubbed “the honeycomb” due to the number of areas where embers have ignited small fires outside the line. On the east side, crews are working to mopup a large section of line where the fire burned in a mosaic pattern, leaving pockets of vegetation that could reignite. Twenty-five hand crews and 22 engines will continue mopping up today, supported by numerous dozers, water tenders and other heavy equipment.

With fire lines holding for the second day in a row, firefighters will continue to focus on the demanding task of mopping up. The fire is staffed with 20, 20-person hand crews that will improve the existing lines, locate and deal with hazard trees, grid and patrol for spot fires, and mop up any hot spots within 25 feet of the existing hand and dozer lines. Engine crews will mop up areas accessible by road and firefighters will work to get hoselays around the rest of the fire to bring water to the mopup efforts.

Firefighters continue to make progress establishing and holding containment lines on the Green Ridge Fire, in spite of being challenged by repeated spot fires. The Prineville and Wolf Creek Interagency Hotshot crews successfully completed burnout operations on the western side of Green Ridge, bringing the edge of the fire down to more defensible, flat ground. Additional hand crews, engines and heavy equipment arrived yesterday to begin the process of mopping up, improving containment lines and patrolling for additional spot fires.
