This update is for the P-515 Fire and Lionshead Fire burning on the Warm Springs Reservation. Both fires are being managed for full suppression. 

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Saturday afternoon and evening. 

Current Situation: The P-515 Fire is 4,609 acres and 75% contained. Yesterday, mop up operations on the P-515 Fire continued to extinguish smoldering and hot debris deeper inside the burnt area to further improve fire lines. 
The Lionshead Fire is now 5,833 acres and 15% contained. Yesterday, crews on the Lionshead Fire contained several new spot fires on the southwest flank, and continued work to strengthen and hold fire line along the J-200 Road. The fire continues to be held along the P-440 Road on the northern perimeter. 

P-515 Fire: Mop up operations today will continue to advance deeper into the burnt area. Winds are expected to test containment lines throughout the day and into the evening. Firefighters will focus on looking for any new spot fires that develop beyond fire lines. 

Lionshead Fire: Today’s fire behavior is expected to challenge containment lines in holding the fire to its existing footprint. On the north flank, crews and heavy equipment will continue to clear and remove fuels along the P-440 Road to improve and strengthen containment lines. To the south, crews will work to hold the southwest flank along the J-200 Road. Weather and Fire Behavior: A Red Flag Warning for winds and low relative humidity is in effect for today from 2 p.m. till 10 p.m. In the early afternoon winds from the northwest of 10-18 mph with gusts of up to 40 mph are expected. “We have all the ingredients for very active fire behavior today,” crews were cautioned by Steve Zeal, NW Team 7 Fire Behavioral Analyst. 

Closures: Trout Lake Road at pavement end; Road B140 at Potter’s Pond; Road B210 and Road P-500. All trails south of Trout Lake, west of M-120 Metolious Bench, east of Mt. Jefferson, and north of J-195 will be closed to the public. Tenino Road (P-200) is closed to the public, with only fire personnel and residents are allowed. Evacuations: There are currently no evacuations orders associated with the P-515 or Lionshead Fires.

This update is for the P-515 Fire and Lionshead Fire burning on the Warm Springs Reservation.  Both fires are being managed for full suppression.

Current Situation: The P-515 Fire is 4,609 acres and 70% contained.  The fire lines held again yesterday and crews continue to mop up hot spots.

The Lionshead Fire is now 4,866 acres and 15% contained.  Yesterday, in a preemptive action, six loads of retardant were applied on the ridge just west of Lionshead Peak (NW corner of the fire).  This action was taken to reduce the intensity of the fire should it crest the canyon and reduce the potential for spotting over the ridge.  Containment lines on the north, east and south east flanks continue to hold.  All spot fires on the south flank (south of J-200) are now lined.
  
P-515 Fire:  Mop up continues along fire lines and crews will patrol for undetected spot fires.  As containment increases, crews are being shifted to support operations on the Lionshead Fire.

Lionshead Fire: The J-440 Road on the north flank and J-100 Road on the east continue to be prepped for containment, with operations including brushing, burnout and mop up.  With the spot fires on the south flank now lined, work continues to secure the J-200 road as the primary containment line in that area.  Crews and heavy equipment will continue to push further west out the J-200 Road as the fire moves towards Camp Creek Butte.  Air operations will continue to target hot spots to slow the fire’s advance and support crews constructing line.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Continued warm and very dry conditions will provide for very active fire behavior today.  Tomorrow, a cold front will move across the area bringing increased winds.  Because of these winds coupled with the low relative humidity and temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s a Red Flag Warning has been issue from 2 PM to 11 PM on Saturday. 

Closures: Trout Lake Road at pavement end; Road B140 at Potter’s Pond; Road B210 and Road P-500. All trails south of Trout Lake, west of M-120 Metolious Bench, east of Mt. Jefferson, and north of J-195 will be closed to the public. Tenino Road (P-200) is closed to the public, with only fire personnel and residents are allowed.

Evacuations: There are currently no evacuations orders associated with the P-515 or Lionshead Fires.

Because of the progress made on the P-515 Fire, the Level 1 Evacuation (Get Ready) on Trout Lake Road west of US-26 has been lifted.

Current Situation: The P-515 Fire is 4,609 acres and 65% contained.  Operations to secure the containment line along the perimeter continued through last night.

The Lionshead Fire is now 4,367 acres and 15% contained.  Yesterday heavy equipment and hand crews worked to secure the north perimeter of the fire along the P-440 Rd. Increased fire activity on the southern flank led to several spot fires over primary containment lines. Firefighters were able to subdue one of the spots using aviation and ground resources.  
P-515 Fire: Today, Crews will continue mop-up operations.

Lionshead Fire: Work on securing the J-200 road will continue, and crews will seek opportunities to secure the southern flank.  Work will also continue to suppress and secure spot fires. Lookouts will closely monitor fire activity for any additional spotting south of the J-200 Rd. as the fire moves up the canyon.  On the north flank crews continue preparing the P-440 Rd. using heavy equipment and hand crews. 

Weather and Fire Behavior:  Expect an inversion in the lowlands and valleys until late morning, and smoke local to and downwind of active fire activity. Ridgetop winds may become variable throughout the day, and gusts are forecast up to 18 mph. There is a potential again today for very active behavior on steep slopes.

Current Situation: The P-515 Fire is now 4,609 acres and 50% contained. Yesterday, minimal fire activity allowed crews to make good progress on securing the fire perimeter, with mop up occurring in all divisions.  

The Lionshead Fire is now 3,059 acres and 8% contained. Spot fires on the south side of Whitewater River moved east up slope towards the J-100 road. Firefighters conducted a successful burn out operation ahead of the advancing fire front on portions of the J-200 road. Fire managers were pleased with the progress made on the direct and indirect line along the P-440 road on the northern flank.

P-515 Fire: Today, resources plan to focus their mop-up efforts on concentrated sources of heat near the perimeter of the fire. Firefighters will work to secure and improve the depth of mop up operations on all flanks and identifying locations for fire suppression repair work.

Lionshead Fire: Firefighters will continue direct and indirect burn out operations to better secure the northern flank.  The intent of the strategic burn out operation along the J-200 road is to remove pockets of fuel prior to the fire reaching the road as a point to hold the fire.  Crews on the southern flank will prep other sections of the J-200 road for ongoing firing operations. 

Weather and Fire Behavior: Both fire behavior and weather will be similar to yesterday. We expect down valley winds (east) 2-7 mph in the Whitewater River drainage with gusts up to 12 mph. Temperatures in the 70’s, and humidity in the upper teens are forecast for today.  Flare-ups are likely in unburned fuels near control lines and there is a potential for group torching in heavy fuels under  tree canopies.
