BOBCAT FIRE EVACUATION ORDER

The Unified Incident Command Teams of the Angeles National Forest and the Los Angeles County Fire Department are ORDERING residents in the foothills North of the Bobcat Fire to evacuate, there continues to be rapid fire growth. Be advised this is an EVACUATION ORDER. 

EVACUATION GEOGRAPHIC DETAILS:

The following areas are under an EVACUATION ORDER:

• Juniper Hills

• Devils Punchbowl

• Paradise Springs

• Including the area East of Devils Punch Bowl Rd, South of the Big Pines Hwy, North of the Big Rock Creek, and West of Jackson Lake

Residents in these areas should quickly gather their families and pets and head to your preplanned location outside of the fire evacuation zones.  Residents must take these necessary steps to ensure your family’s safety.  Delaying evacuation will prevent fire crews from suppression activities and compromise the safety of the public and first responders. 

Right now, you should:

Review your Evacuation Plan Checklist.

1. Ensure your Emergency Supply Kit is in your vehicle.
2. Cover-up to protect against heat and flying embers. Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, heavy shoes/boots, cap, dry bandanna for face cover, goggles or glasses. 100% cotton is preferable.
3. Locate your pets and take them with you.
4. This season is a bit different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Remember to be Fire Safe and COVID Aware.  Ensure that you continue to take the necessary safety precautions in regard to COVID-19 when evacuating. 

Those with large animals (i.e. horses and cattle) who have not previously moved these animals, should do so immediately.  If you have not made prior arrangements, large animals may be taken to the AV Fairgrounds.

Residents who have not secured an evacuation destination may contact the Red Cross at 800-675-5799 for further assistance in finding an evacuation location.

Do not return to your home until fire officials determine it is safe. Notification that it is safe to return home will be given as soon as possible considering safety and accessibility.

Anoche se emitió una advertencia de evacuación para los residentes de la comunidad no incorporada de Juniper Hills. TODAY

Last night an evacuation warning was issued for the residents in the unincorporated community of Juniper Hills. The evacuation warning was for the residents south of Fort Tejon Road, east of 96th Street East and south of Valyermo Road west of Bobs Gap Road. In the south around the foothills communities the focus will be mopping up and improving the lines to secure the fire in this area. Around Mt. Wilson firefighters will continue to protect developments and push lines towards the north. In the northern portion of the fire work will continue on the dozer lines that were started last night, firefighters will be scouting for additional opportunities for both indirect and direct firelines north of Highway 2. On the east an effort will be made to secure lines between Highway 32 and the Ranch 2 Fire scar. This is the eighth day of setting records for fuel dryness and this is one of the factors that has been complicating control efforts. Tonight, there will be another virtual community meeting where fire management will provide an update on the Bobcat fire current situation. The meeting will be streamed through multiple platforms, including our cooperator’s social media platforms. TODAY

Today, evacuation orders for residents north of Elkins Ave and East of Santa Anita Ave in the communities of Arcadia and Sierra Madre were lifted. Residents were able to repopulate into these areas at 4 PM. The Bobcat Fire is 46,263 acres with 3% containment. Efforts were focused on securing the south end of the fire where crews put in direct handline from Arcadia Wilderness Park to Santa Anita Canyon Road. Additionally, strategic firing operations took place near Camp Trask where the fire is holding at the line. With decreased smoke conditions, increased temperatures, and lower relative humidity, the fire saw growth along the perimeter. The area around Mt. Wilson and the southwestern edge of the fire remains active where crews continue to protect the Mt. Wilson Observatory infrastructure. The north side of the fire in Cooper Canyon continues northward into the Pleasant View Wilderness. Aviation assets were able to drop retardant as conditions allowed to slow the growth of the fire, while ground resources made their way into look for places to start putting in line. Additionally, crews worked on fire growth near the Crystal Lake area and the West Fork where there is heavy fuel. Tomorrow another virtual community meeting where fire management will provide an update on the Bobcat fire current situation. YESTERDAY

Yesterday firefighters were successful in keeping the fire from impacting Mt. Wilson Observatory. Fire behavior moderated at the south end of the fire overnight, this helped the crews working on strengthening control lines around the foothill communities and Mt. Wilson. Fire behavior was still active in the north and an additional focus was to try to contain the spot fires across Highway 2. 

WEATHER

Warm and dry conditions persisted across the fire through the day. Afternoon temperatures reached the 90s with low humidity. Southern winds developed at the ridgetops with upcanyon winds at lower elevations. With these conditions, the fire remained active. For tonight and Thursday, some slight cooling is expected.

For more information, please visit their websites.  Southwest winds will push smoke to the Northeast and east of the fires today, and settling overnight. Worst air quality will be in the mountain communities of Crestline and Big Bear, and in the northern portion of the Los Angeles Basin and Inland Empire.
