Northwest Incident Management Team Nine will hand over management of the Potter, Windigo, Big Swamp and Camel Hump Fires to a local Type 3 Incident Management Team on Sunday, September 11 at 7 a.m. This will be the last daily update. For fire information related to these incidents, please contact the Umpqua National Forest at 541-975-2300 or the Middle Fork Ranger District on the Willamette National Forest at 541-782-2283.  

 

RED FLAG WARNING: A red flag warning continues into Saturday for strong east winds and critically low relative humidity. The red flag warning will be in effect until 10 a.m. today.  

 

Windigo Fire: Firefighters continue to conduct suppression repair to minimize effects on cultural and natural resources.  Crews on the Windigo Fire have also been repairing roads that were damaged during suppression efforts.  

 

Potter Fire: The east wind event yesterday increase activity on the Potter Fire, with interior islands of fuels burning and a few single trees torching.  All the activity occurred within the containment lines. Today firefighters will remain vigilant for any spot fires that may occur outside of the containment line. Crew will also continue to mop-up as necessary, which includes seeking out and cooling of heat sources. Firefighters continue to fall hazard trees and backhaul supplies and equipment. 

 

Big Swamp Fire: Firefighters continue to hold and mop up the Big Swamp Fire as needed.  

 

Camel Hump Fire: Firefighters will continue to patrol the area until a season ending event. 

 

Resources: 8 hand crews, 9 engines, 1 dozer, 17 water tenders, Total personnel 334. 

 

Firefighter Readiness: Firefighters are prepared to assist in Initial Attack as needed in the area. 

 

Public Use Restrictions: Campfires are NOT allowed on the Willamette and Umpqua National Forests. For more information visit:

RED FLAG WARNING: Red flag warnings from Friday into Saturday as an east wind event is occuring. Increasing winds Thursday to Friday overnight from east at 10-15 mph from east changing to 15-25 mph during day with gusts up to 25-35 mph. Winds continue 20-30 mph with gusts at 35 mph through Saturday morning. Winds do calm down Saturday afternoon, but humidity levels are at records lows and temperatures remain high. Stay alert to weather conditions going in to the weekend.
UPDATED Public Use Restrictions: Campfires are NOT allowed on the Willamette and Umpqua National Forests.Both Forests have new Public Use Restrictions (fire restrictions) in place. Check the Willamette and Umpqua National Forest websites for specific public use restrictions. 
Forest Road Safety: Heavy equipment crews and firefighters are working on area Forest roads. Please adhere to road closures, steer clear of graders and other road equipment and follow posted speed limits. Your safety, and that of our crews, are our priority.
Firefighter Readiness: While three of the four fires are 100% contained, firefighters are still patrolling and securing primary lines and are prepared to assist with initial attack if needed. Crews also continue to focus on suppression repair work, road grading and hazard tree abatement. 
Windigo Fire: Firefighters continue to hold and improve the line while crews make progress on road repair.
Potter Fire: Brush removal continues on the Potter Fire. Higher elevations of the Potter fire will be exposed to east winds.  Firefighters will continue patrol the fire area looking for any increase in fire activity taking action as needed to secure control lines. The Potter fire is 99% contained.
Big Swamp Fire: Crews continue piling brush FR 2153. Firefighters continue to hold and improve the line.
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will continue to patrol the area. Camel Hump Fire is 100% contained.

Weather Alert: Thursday morning will bring northwest winds initially but will change to a significant east wind event by late Thursday evening. Winds will be 10-15 mph with gusts along ridges in evening. On Friday and Saturday, winds could gust up to 30-35 mph from east. Temperatures will continue to be above normal going into the weekend with very dry conditions prevailing. Stay alert to weather conditions going in to the weekend.
UPDATED FIRE RESTRICTIONS: Effective today, September 8, on the WIllamette National Forest, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire or stove fire, including a charcoal, wood or coal fire. are prohibited. Pressure liquid or gas stoves, lanterns and heaters that can be switched on and off are allowed. Check the Willamette and Umpqua National Forest websites for specific public use fire restrictions.

Big Swamp Fire: Quiet day out on Big Swamp Fire. Crews completed chipping of brush to the 54 Road. Big Swamp Fire is 100% contained.
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will continue to patrol the area. Camel Hump Fire is 100% contained.

Weather: Temperatures in the 80's to 90 degrees with critically low humidity. Winds 10-15 mph.  Thursday remains quiet but weekend winds may be up to 10-20 mph with some gusts up to 20-25 mph. Remain vigilant!
Three of the four fires are 100% contained. With the continued warm temperatures and dry conditions, fire resources will continue to patrol these fires looking for any heat sources that can pose a threat to containment lines.  Crews also continue to focus on suppression repair work, road grading and hazard tree abatement. 
Big Swamp Fire: Quiet day out on Big Swamp Fire. Crews completed chipping of brush to the 54 Road. Big Swamp Fire is 100% contained.
Potter Fire: Firefighters will complete brushing work today. Potter Fire is 99% contained.
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will continue to patrol the area. Camel Hump Fire is 100% contained.

Critical Fire Weather Today: Be alert! Critical fire weather today with Red Flag Warnings in place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Temperatures in high 80's to 90 degrees with low humidity. Winds switch from the south-west to the north-east, 15-20 mph in the afternoon. 
Firefighters and road crews are making excellent progress. and three of the four fires are now 100% contained. In the upcoming days, crews will focus on suppression repair work, road grading and hazard tree abatement. 
Big Swamp Fire: Quiet day out on Big Swamp Fire. Crews completed chipping and processing to the 54 Road. Big Swamp Fire is 100% contained.
Potter Fire: Firefighters pulled hose lays off of some of the containment lines where fire activity no longer poses concern, and crews plan to complete brushing operations today. Potter Fire is 99% contained.
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will continue to patrol the area; no heat has been detected in the past 48 hours. Camel Hump Fire is 100% contained.
Windigo Fire: Suppression repair is on-going along Road 60 to move material. Additional water tenders will be onsite to assist with that work. The Windigo Fire is 100% contained.

 Incendio Potter: Se realizo un trabajo exitoso en la reparación de supresión y losbomberos están retirando troncos y arbustos que representan un peligro para el tráficomoviéndose sobre el sistema de caminos. Así mismo, los bomberos continúan elpatrullaje en los bordes exteriores del incendio.
 Incendio Camel Hump: Los bomberos locales, continúan patrullando el área afectada.Durante las últimas 24 horas, no se han detectado espacios de emanación de calor.
 Incendio Windigo: Ha sido completada la labor de limpieza, el personal continuarapatrullando y listos para asegurar cualquier brote de calor que signifique una amenazapara las líneas de control. El trabajo de supresión incluye el astillado y reparación decaminos, así como la nivelación a lo largo de la carretera 60.

WATCH FOR FIRE TRAFFIC: Throughout your Labor Day holiday weekend, remember you are sharing the road with wildland fire crews in the area. We ask everyone to slow down and stay vigilant to keep the community and our firefighters safe. 
 
Weather: Temperatures from high 70's to mid 80's with humidity around 20%. Winds will be light, less than 10 mph. Next week, temperatures return to the 80's. 
 
Big Swamp Fire: Crews continue mop up, repair work on exterior lines and road grading operations.
 
Potter Fire: Suppression repair work went well and crews will be moving logs and brush that pose a hazard to driving on road systems. Firefighters continue to patrol outer edges of fire. 
 
Camel Hump Fire: Local firefighter resources will continue to patrol the area; no heat has been detected in the past 24 hours.
 
Windigo Fire: Mop up is complete, resources will continue to patrol and be ready to secure any additional heat that may pose a threat to control lines. Fire Suppression work includes chipping and road repair and grading along the 60 Road.
