OtherThe Fish Fire was reported on Sunday, July 31 at 11:30 a.m. The fire is located 7 miles south of Sundance, Wyoming and east of Wyoming Highway 585. It is on the Bearlodge Ranger District, Black Hills National Forest in steep, rugged terrain on Iron Mountain. The fire started on private land and was human caused.
The Wyoming State Type 3 Incident Management Team 3 began managing the incident on August 2, but due to rapid growth and spread of the fire, the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 took over command of the fire the following day, August 3. Command of the fire reverted to the Wyoming Type 3 Team on Monday, August 8. It is anticipated that command of the fire will be turned over to local agencies when circumstances allow.
Resources from Crook County and other local organizations, several Federal agencies, Wyoming State Forestry Division and private contractors are working on the fire. 98% of the fire perimeter is now surrounded by containment lines. Crews are mopping up and cold trailing the firelines, and a separate division is repairing disturbance created by firefighting activities in order to reduce possible erosion and to protect water quality.

The Black Hills National Forest has an area closure in place for the area south of Crook County Road (Clark Road) and Wyoming Highway 585, east to Reynolds Road (FSR 872), south to the Moskee townsite and west to Wyoming Highway 585. The purpose of the closure is to provide for public safety and safe egress of fire vehicles in the vicinity of the Fish Fire. Links to the official Closure Order and map are available as follows.

There are no road closures in the area at this time. For further information on Wyoming road conditions, please visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation website.
Please do not fly Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as drones, in the wildfire area. “If You Fly, We Can’t” campaign emphasizes the serious risks posed to firefighter and public safety from unauthorized drone flights during wildfire suppression operations.
