Daily Update for Dolan and Coleman Fires

Coleman Fire

Handcrews are expected to work in steeper sections of the fire today in order to connect dozer line that was built yesterday. Light winds are expected to provide for minimal fire behavior, allowing for more helicopter work to cool off hotspots on the fire. Helicopters will be shuttle handcrews to fireline due to the steep inaccessible terrain.

 

Dolan Fire

Portions of Highway 1 adjacent to the Dolan Fire may be closed for short periods of time today to allow for suppression repair work along the roadway. Excavator work is expected to continue in the area of Arroyo Secco to repair dozer lines built during the height of the fire. Crews will continue to patrol the west side of the fire looking for additional areas of smoke

Coleman Fire

Handcrews will continue to build control line across the south, then east sides of the fire today. As weather allows, air tankers and helicopters will be used to slow fire spread into the Bear Canyon area and onto the Ventana Wilderness area.

 

Dolan Fire

Suppression repair and fireline rehab continue to be the focus for crews. Heavy equipment will be moving from the south portions of the fire to the north east portions to begin work.  Resources continue to patrol for hotspots and to identify additional repair projects.

Coleman Fire

Handcrews will be working to scout out and build handline on the south and east side of the fire. Aircraft will continue to check the fires spread as the weather allows. Heavy equipment is being moved into the area in anticipation of building dozer line on the north and north east side of the fire. The Coleman fire is expected to continue aircraft use in efforts to assist firefighters with containment. 

 

Dolan Fire

Today crews will continue with suppression repair across the fire with a focus on the south and south west portions of the fire. Patrols will continue around the perimeter looking for hot spots and smoke. Repair work will continue around the Merle Ranch. Suppression repair and fireline rehab are being done with the goal of ensuring visitor safety once the Monterey District reopens to the public. Assessment and chipping operations continue along the Nacimiento-Ferguson Road.

Coleman Fire

Resources assigned to the Dolan Fire are actively engaged with a new start, the Coleman Fire, which is located adjacent to the Dolan Fire on the Los Padres National Forest and Fort Hunter-Liggett Army base.  Numerous resources have been ordered to assist with the suppression effort including use of airtankers and heavy helicopters.  The Eastern Area Incident Management Team has been delegated authority for suppression of the Coleman Fire.

New Start Coleman Fire

Shortly after noon on Sunday, October 18, the Coleman Fire started on the east side of the Dolan Fire. The Coleman Fire was initially under the jurisdiction of the Los Padres National Fires at Fort Hunter Liggett. As of 7am this morning, October 19, the Eastern Area Silver IMT has taken responsibility for the Coleman Fire. It is currently estimates at 500 acres. Additional aircraft and crews have been ordered for the Coleman Fire.

Hoy los equipos de bomberos continuarán con los trabajos de reparación de supresión alrededor del incendio. Las cuadrillas de mano se están centrando en la reparación de líneas de mano construidas, mientras que los equipos pesados y las cuadrillas de astillado trabajan para hacer que las carreteras forestales sean seguras para la eventual reapertura del Distrito de Monterey Ranger. Se está prestando un enfoque a la reparación de la supresión y la rehabilitación de la línea de fuego con el fin de prevenir la erosión futura. Today fire crews will continue suppression repair work around the fire. Hand crews are focusing on the repair of constructed handlines, while heavy equipment and chipping crews work to make forest roads safe for the eventual re-opening of the Monterey Ranger District. A focus is being given to suppression repair and fireline rehabilitation in order to prevent future erosion. Resource Advisors are continuing to map areas for future repair work to be completed. Along the Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, crews continue to clean up brush and fallen trees while protecting drainage control structures and repairing fence.

El Equipo de Gestión de Incidentes de Eastern Area Silver se hizo cargo del Incendio Dolan a las 7 am de esta mañana del Equipo de Gestión de Incidentes del Departamento de Bomberos de Nueva York.

 

 Las cuadrillas de bomberos continuarán con los trabajos de reparación de supresión alrededor del fuego. Los Asesores de Recursos están evaluando las áreas dañadas por las actividades de extinción de incendios y coordinando con la Sección de Operaciones de las IMT para priorizar el trabajo. Equipos pesados y cuadrillas continúan rehabilitando líneas de fuego para evitar la erosión.  Los árboles caídos están siendo astillados y el equipo pesado está trabajando para hacer que las carreteras sean seguras para viajar. Las tripulaciones continúan patrullando el perímetro del incendio para garantizar que el perímetro esté seguro. La quema activa interior todavía es posible hoy con las condiciones cálidas y secas pronosticadas. Múltiples islas verdes grandes y no quemadas han sido identificadas dentro de la huella de fuego de Dolan. Se espera que ninguno represente una amenaza para las líneas de contención.


The Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres NF Remains Closed

The Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres NF remains closed under Closure Order Forest Order Number 05-07-51-20-22.

The Nacimiento-Ferguson RD is closed to all traffic (public and residential) from Highway 1 to the Fort Hunter Liggett base boundary line (16 miles inland).

Dolan Fire Daily Update for 91720

The Eastern Area Silver Incident Management Team took over the Dolan Fire at 7 am this morning from the outgoing Fire Department of New York Incident Management Team.

 

Fire crews will continue with suppression repair work around the fire. Resource Advisors are assessing areas damaged from fire suppression activities and coordinating with the Operations Section of the IMT to prioritize work. Heavy equipment and crews are continuing to rehabilitate firelines to prevent erosion.  Downed trees are being chipped and heavy equipment is working to make roads safe for travel. Crews are continuing to patrol the perimeter of the fire to ensure the perimeter is secure. Active interior burning is still possible today with the hot and dry conditions forecast. Multiple large, unburned green islands have been identified within the Dolan fire footprint. None are expected to pose a threat to containment lines.
