Publication Type: News
TODAY
Crews will continue to prep and add additional depth to secure lines north of Mt. Wilson and in the Northeast between Highway 2 and Big Rock Creek. These continued strategic firing operations are done to secure the fires perimeter from the fire making a run at the fire lines from unburned fuels within. Crew, engines, equipment and aircraft work in coordination to build holding lines, plumb the lines with water, and while firing aviation assets slow the movement of the main fire. West of Waterman Mt. Firefighters will continue to focus on strengthening the lines where the Mt. Wilson operation occurred. A focus of our efforts today and tomorrow will be securing the west side of the fire before winds shift to the northeast Sunday. Engines will be available for smoke checks near the communities. Repopulation efforts continue with help from Los Angeles County Occupancy support. For more information visit: https://rb.gy/flykjl.
YESTERDAY
Last night, crews continued to work on holding and improving containment lines while securing the perimeter of the fire for hot spots and mop up around structures. Crews using minimum impact suppression techniques (MIST) completed a portion of the line on the western perimeter. Fire activity remained near Mt. Waterman Ridge where crews worked on building direct handline
WEATHER
Today the weather will feature warm conditions with afternoon breezes and somewhat higher humidity. Tomorrow high pressure will move in and a significant warming and drying trend will begin that will feature near record temperatures and critically low humidity through the week. This trend will also feature breezy northeast winds.

TODAY
Progress continues to be made on containment as the Bobcat Fire is now 50%. One of the priorities today will be the northeastern corner of the fire from Highway 2 to Big Rock Creek Road where crews will be working to construct direct handline. If this is not feasible, they will prepare for strategic firing. The areas where strategic firing took place north of Mt. Wilson will continue to burn out today and if needed and conditions warrant aerial ignition will be used to increase the depth along Highway 2. In the northwestern section of the fire crews continue to construct direct handline from Highway 2 to Little Rock Reservoir. This is very steep and difficult country and It will take several days to accomplish this task. In Antelope Valley crews will continue to secure line and mop up around structures. The eastern and southern portions from Crystal Lake around to Mt. Wilson remain mop-up, monitor and patrol status. Los Angeles County Occupancy support will be beginning today, more information at https://rb.gy/flykjl.
YESTERDAY
Yesterday crews successfully held all of the previous day’s strategic firing operations. Direct handlines were constructed around the spot fire at Barley Flat, and a new spot fire in this area was also lined. An indirect handline was completed north from Highway 2 to Big Rock Creek Road. Fire activity moderated overnight except in the Mt. Waterman vicinity.
WEATHER
Today the weather will be similar to yesterday, with light winds and humidity in the teens. High pressure will move in on Friday, starting a significant warming and drying trend. There will be near record temperatures and very low humidity and on Saturday there will be the possibility of gusty northeast winds.

Bobcat Evening Update Sept 23 2020
Related Incident:
Publication Type: News
TODAY
Much of the work today was focused on completing the strategic defensive firing operation from last night. Crews searched any remaining unburnt fuels and brought the containment line to HWY-2. Additionally, operations officials flew the fire near the 2009 Station Fire burn scar looking for any potential areas of concerns, however, they were able to construct handline directly near Red Box Picnic Area. Meanwhile, firefighters continued to patrol and monitor the containment lines near the foothill communities finding mostly cold containment line.
Tonight
Work will continue to fortify the areas that were strategically burned to improve containment while continued patrols and mop-up on hotpots near the fire line. There may be additional strategic burning in areas where the fire continues to push North, East and to the West. Personnel will be holding the portion of the line in the Northeast and big rock creek and monitor and patrol the area from big rock creek all the way south back to Mt Wilson. Structural engines continued to secure areas around structures. Dozers and hand crew will work though the evening completing handlines on direct and indirect lines in both the West and Eastern portions of the fireline.
WEATHER
The weather tonight and on Friday will continue to be warm and dry. Friday and Saturday will be similar. A high-pressure system will come into place in the next couple days with above average temperature and very low relative humidities, with the possibility of breezy northeast to easterly winds (santa ana winds).
