Pronstico de Humo para 2809 2909

Related Incident:
Publication Type: News

Aviso Especial

Special Statement

Smoke Advisories remain in place for portions of the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District. Please see the links below for more information.

Fires

Two fires are burning in the forecast area: The Bobcat, (114,200, 62% containment)and the El Dorado (22,680 acres, 92% containment). Yesterday, fires burned in the interior areas but with little to no new growth. The high pressure in the region brings gusty, hot and dry winds from the east to the fire areas today. High potential for igniting unburnt dry fuels. Red Flag Warning in effect through 5 pm today. See link below for Inciweb for more information.

Smoke:

Today east-northeast winds dominate as the high pressure remains in the region. Smoke from burning hot spots inside the fire perimeter will linger in the fire areas, and disperse with light winds up and downslope until the stronger E-NE winds transport smoke to west and southwest. Today through the remainder of the week, smoke from fires north of the LA Basin may cause haze and additional smoke impacts in the forecast area.

Related Incident:
Publication Type: News

TODAY

A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 5:00 PM today for gusty winds and low relative humidity, while a Wind Advisory is in effect until 3:00 PM. Crews will continue to actively monitor and patrol containment lines searching out heat along the perimeter. Patrols will occur along the northern portion of the fire to make sure communities are secure and to be alert for new activity. Engines will be available for smoke checks around the communities. Increased activity is anticipated within containment lines near Mount Wilson and Mount Lewis as the wind speeds increase and relative humidity decreases. The public can expect to see smoke columns in these areas as unburned fuels within the containment lines continue to consume. Crews will be working near Mount Lewis to reduce the spread of the fire and to keep it north of Route 2. They will also be working to secure the spot fire northwest of Bare Mountain. California Incident Management Team 1 is in the process of transitioning with a new incident management team who will take over the fire.

YESTERDAY

The fire continued to remain active around the Mt. Lewis area where it made its way down to the bottom of the drainage. Crews were engaged in actions to stop the forward rate of spread. The island of unburned fuels northwest of Mt. Wilson continued to consume. North of Highway 2 in the Barley Flat area firefighters worked throughout the day and night to eliminate any heat near the fire’s edge. Hand crews and aircraft worked all night to contain a 40-acre spot fire northwest of Bare Mountain. Crews continued to actively monitor and patrol containment lines searching out heat along the perimeter.

WEATHER

Santa Ana conditions today bring high temperatures, very low relative humidity, and gusty northeast winds. On ridgetops and in exposed areas winds will be 15 to 25 mph, with gusts 25-35 mph. These winds will decrease after 3:00 PM and drop overnight. On Tuesday and Wednesday temperatures will be well above normal and humidity will drop into the single digits, but winds will be light.

Bobcat Morning Update Sept 27 2020

Related Incident:
Publication Type: News

TODAY

Crews will continue to actively monitor and patrol containment lines in preparation of forecasted Santa Ana conditions. These conditions include increased temperatures, lower relative humidities, and increases to wind speed as well as a change in the wind direction. These changes are resulting in critical fire weather conditions that will occur late tonight and into tomorrow. Fire activity remains around the Mt. Lewis area where the fire has made its way down to the bottom of the drainage. Crews are engaged in actions to stop the forward rate of spread. Fire activity from Pinon Ridge to Dorr Canyon has moderated and crews continue to patrol and mop-up any residual heat sources. The island of unburned fuels northwest of Mt. Wilson continues to burn out. Firefighters are actively monitoring and patrolling to make sure it does not move outside of the lines. Repopulation efforts continue with help from Los Angeles County Occupancy support. For more information visit: https://rb.gy/flykjl.

YESTERDAY

Personnel worked to build on existing containment lines, mop-up and monitor the perimeter of the fire. Heavy mop-up to the north of Mt. Wilson to Highway 2 continued with personnel lining and plumbing hose to the area around Barley flats. Aircraft in conjunction with ground personnel continued to battle isolated heat remaining near Chilao. Most of the northern end and eastern end of the fire near Highway 39 to the San Gabriel Dam of the fire has seen minimal fire activity and no movement. Crews continued to monitor the area for heat signatures. To the south end, from Monrovia Canyon to Santa Anita Canyon, fire crews saw little to no heat signatures during mop-up. Yesterday, LA County Sheriff’s Department lifted evacuation warnings for selected areas in the Antelope Valley.

WEATHER

Building high pressure will bring warmer and drier conditions today, with a shift to northeast ridgetop winds. Santa Ana conditions will bring stronger east to northeast winds beginning early Monday morning and lasting through the afternoon. These gusty winds will combine with very low humidity to produce a period of critical fire weather conditions. As a result, A Fire Weather Watch is in effect on Monday for gusty Santa Ana winds and low relative humidity.
