Grand County Sheriff announces reentry for areas west of Hwy 34

On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at noon, all areas to the west of HWY 34 will open for re-entry. This includes areas that were still in closure yesterday on 491 (Sun Valley Ranch Estates), 4953, 4954, 4955, 4956 and beyond the National Park housing area. The area north of mile marker 5.3 on HWY 125 to mile marker 20, both east and west, remain closed for safety and ongoing utility work. Please be aware of hazards that still exist in the area. A significant concern will be falling trees. Watch around homes, when outdoors, driving through neighborhoods and along roadways.Utilities continue to be a challenge in the area. If you re-enter at this time, you may not have all utility services to your property. Please contact your utility company directly for specific needs or additional concerns. You may also experience intermittent service as utility companies continue to conduct work. Emergency services are available as needed. Smoke and fire still exist in neighborhoods. If you see a fire causing possible danger to a structure, please call 911.The Disaster Assistance Center, located at the Inn at SilverCreek remains open from 8:00am-6:00pm today providing services to the community with behavioral health, items donated for pick up, cleaning supplies for your home and property, public health for immunizations and COVID testing, insurance and general information.

Grand County Sheriff announced reentry plan for areas East of Hwy 34

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office has announced the re-entry plan for areas on the east side of Highway 34.  
At 2:00 p.m. on Monday October 26, 2020 the Grand County Sheriff’s Office will open all areas south of the intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 6 east and west on both sides of the highway, including all areas of County Road 6. County Road 40 remains closed.
At 4:00 p.m. on Monday October 26, 2020 areas on the east side of Highway 34 north into the Town of Grand Lake will be open to just north of the Gateway Inn at Mile Marker 14.5. Residents will be allowed to access those areas east of Highway 34. Areas to the west of Highway 34 will remain closed as firefighters, law enforcement and Disaster Assessment Teams continue their work. 
Fire remains active in areas to the west of Highway 34 and road closures are possible in re-opened areas due to firefighting activity and road conditions.  
There was a period of time during the fire in which your electrical power was lost. This will impact food quality and safety in your home. You should make plans to ensure an adequate food supply prior to returning to your home.
Re-entry for areas to the west of Highway 34 will require more extensive preparation, disaster assessment and safety management. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is developing plans for the re-opening of areas to the west of Highway 34. BLM Area Closure Order

In order to protect persons, property and public lands and resources the following public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management are closed to all public use in support of the EAST TROUBLESOME FIRE: BLM managed lands in Grand County, Colorado: T1N, R77W; T1N, R76W; T3N, R76W; This area includes the Strawberry Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA). BLM managed lands in Jackson County, Colorado: T6N, R79W; T6N, R80W, Sections 12, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 35, 36. In accordance with 43 CFR 8364.1 (a) To protect, persons property and public lands and resources, the authorized officer may issue an order to restrict use of designated public lands. The emergency closure will remain in effect until the area is cleared of emergency activities providing for safe public access. If you have any questions about this emergency closure, please contact the Bureau of Land Management Kremmling Field Office at (970) 724-3000.

Hunter evacuations on areas of the Routt National Forest

*The Routt National Forest is assisting the Jackson County Sheriff in evacuating hunters and other members of the public from National Forest in Jackson County, Colo., northeast of the East Troublesome Fire.In south Jackson County, hunter camps and recreationists are now being evacuated from the portion of the Routt National Forest west of Hwy 125 to Hwy 14.

Starting from the Jackson/Grand county line, the area of initial focus is east of Colo Hwy 125 to Rocky Mountain National Park and then north to Colorado State Forest. This includes Willow Creek Pass, Illinois Pass, Jack Creek, Silver Creek, Teller City, and Owl Mountain. The National Forest area west of Hwy 125 to Hwy 14 is under consideration for evacuation.  

1021 Fire Activity Increased

Fire activity has increased significantly since our evening update. At this time, additional and extensive evacuation orders are in place and those can be found at gcemergency.com and on Grand County Emergency Management. Fire is impacting the highway 34 corridor and the grand lake area. We ask the public to watch for those notices and follow the information provided by the Grand County Sheriff. Please continue to watch these pages for updates and information. The safety of the communities being impacted and our firefighters remains our highest priority. We will not have an update to acreage and fire perimeter until we can get a flight in the morning.
