Redding, CA
 -
Update 3:30 P.M. : The #SaltFire is approximately 4,500 Acres 0% contained. As the temperatures increase this afternoon fire activity is picking up on the Salt Fire. The fire plan is to keep the Salt Fire east of Interstate 5, east of the Sacramento arm of Shasta Lake, north of Gilman road, and west of the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake. Weather conditions and terrain are making the suppression efforts challenging as fire personnel continue to construct containment lines. An incident management team is being in-briefed to take management of the fire. ⚠️From Cal Trans Facebook page “although I-5 is currently open in both directions, there are lane closures in place that are impacting the flow of traffic. On northbound I-5, the #2 and #3 lanes are closed from Gilman Road to just south of Antlers. On southbound I-5, the #3 lane is closed from Antlers Bridge to approximately 2 miles north of Gilman Road. The #SaltFire remains very active in this area and roadway conditions are subject to change at any time depending on wildfire behavior and operations” This is a rapidly evolving situation please stay in tune with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and Cal Trans for any additional evacuations and changing road conditions or road closures#ShastaCountySheriffsOffice #CalTrans #ShastaTrinityNF ###

Final update for the Bottom Fire

Related Incident:
Publication Type: News

Highlights: The Southwest Area Type 2 Incident Management Team 4 will transfer command of the Bottom Fire back to the local unit, led by Type 4 Incident Commander Irwin Goseyun, at 7:00 AM on Monday, July 5, 2021. This is the final update from the Type 2 Incident Management Team. The Team extends its sincere thanks to the local communities for their support and hospitality throughout this incident.

Operations: On Saturday, fire crews continued with suppression repair to address impacts resulting from firefighting activities. Fire behavior was minimal again throughout the day, with no flare-ups observed along the eastern edge. Crews continue to secure the fire’s perimeter with almost 90 percent containment around the fire. The Team will complete a thorough transition with the Type 4 organization to ensure continued success after their departure on Monday morning.

Weather: A healthy amount of monsoon moisture remains over the area. With July being one of the hottest periods of the year, daytime temperatures are still hot, approaching 100 degrees despite the added moisture and scattered afternoon cloud cover. For the next couple of days, a daily cycle of mid to high clouds are expected overnight and into the morning. Some areas may experience isolated light rains or sprinkles. By late morning, clouds should clear away, allowing more sunlight to reach the ground creating dryer conditions. By early afternoon, storm cell will begin building again, with isolated/scattered showers across the deserts and valleys. By Tuesday, temperatures will start warming to above normal with a return to elevated fire weather conditions.

Safety and Restrictions: To ensure the health and safety of the public, firefighters, and other fire personnel, the public is encouraged to stay safely clear of the fire area. The temporary flight restriction (TFR) that is currently in place over the area will be lifted this evening at 7:00 PM. The TFR includes unmanned aircraft, also known as drones. Unauthorized use of drones in a wildfire area endangers the lives of pilots and firefighters. See www.nifc.gov/drones for additional information on the dangers drones pose to wildland firefighting aircraft and personnel on the ground.

Smoke: If fire activity increases, smoke may be visible from many communities in the surrounding areas. An interactive smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/ allows you to zoom into your location to see the latest smoke information.
