Area closures surrounding the fire areas are still in effect. These closures are necessary to protect the safety and welfare of the public and provide for safe firefighter and equipment operations and access. Fire managers are working in conjunction with Bitterroot National Forest officials to assess the need and potential boundary changes, shrinking the affected areas within the closures.
All three incidents are downsizing as resources demobilize due to increased moisture and limited fire activity.
Current Status
Johnson (3 miles south of Springer Memorial Community, in the East Fork)
Firefighters continue to work alongside resource advisors from the Bitterroot National Forest to implement suppression repair efforts using hand tools to pull back berms on constructed firelines. Three excavators are working to pull in berms on equipment lines constructed during initial attack.
Sharrott (3 miles west of Stevensville)
Firefighters are coordinating with resource advisors from the Bitterroot National Forest to implement suppression repair efforts using hand tools to pull back berms where crews constructed firelines. Excavators continue to pull back berms on the northern and southern equipment lines constructed during initial attack. Wood chippers are working to break down large branches and tree trunks into smaller pieces, scattering available fuels alongside the constructed fireline.
Daly and Railroad (Railroad and Skalkaho Creeks confluence, 26 miles southeast of Hamilton)
Minimal fire activity is present, with no expected spread on the Railroad and Daly Fires. Crews removed structure protection equipment in the Gem Mountain area on Sunday and will continue with hazard mitigation along the Skalkaho Highway (Highway 38).
Weather and Fire Behavior
Temperatures in the valley will reach the mid 60s with mostly cloudy skies. Minimum relative humidity will be in the lows 50s with northeast winds sustained around 12 mph, gusting up to 35 to 40 mph. Unstable conditions will lead to thunderstorms, coming from the south, are expected to move into the area around 3pm, bringing brief, moderate rain storms and will continue moving through the area into the evening and night.
Fire behavior will be creeping and smoldering, primarily in stump holes, large logs, and accumulated fuels.
EVACUATIONS, RESTRICTIONS, CLOSURES

CURRENT SITUATION: Although windy conditions hampered night flying aircraft last night, firefighters were successful in their direct and indirect line construction, increasing containment by two percent.
The northwest flank of the fire continues to be the most active and is the priority for today’s operations. Despite the overnight erratic cold winds with gusts up to 30 mile per hour, crews were able to tie together two dozer lines with hand line. Firefighters focused on direct attack along the fire’s edge to protect the communities of Big Pines, Piñon Hills, and other communities to the northwest. While the fire continues backing down towards Big Pines Road, crews successfully held it in check last night. Today, crews will work to reinforce and mop up containment lines and fall hazard trees.
To the northeast, firefighters continue directly engaging along the fires edge with mop-up operations to secure containment lines. They are also working hard to strengthen containment lines on the west side of the North Fork of Lytle Creek by prioritizing dozer lines and direct attack wherever possible to stop fire spread.
The fire's east flank is less active; however, it still presents a risk to the Mt. Baldy area, and evacuations remain in effect. Structure defense groups will remain in place to mitigate any isolated heat and continue the progress made by the previous operational shifts. Along Mt. Blady Road, crews continue mopping up and feel confident the fireline is secure and have added black line on the map.
The south flank is holding, and firefighters have secured containment lines along the direct edge of the fire. There is still some isolated heat around Sunset Peak that crews will be seeking out to extinguish today. Heavy equipment, along with hand-crews, will continue constructing secondary containment lines in the area.
On the west flank, in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness's rugged and steep terrain, firefighting efforts successfully held the fire from advancing near Rattlesnake Peak by constructing dozer and hand lines. Today,
firefighters will continue constructing containment lines to Ross Peak and Pidgeon Ridge.

West and Preacher Fires Update 09 16 2024
Related Incident: 2024 - West Fire - TNF2024 - Preacher Fire - TNF
Publication Type: News
Delay in incoming weather allows for additional ignitions on West fire
Highlights: The Southwest Complex Incident Management Team will host a community Open House on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pine Community Center.
Operations: Increased potential for rain may slow the fire today, but firefighters will continue to look for opportunities for ignitions. Yesterday, crews continued igniting on Milk Ranch Point. They added additional fire to the west of Bray Creek Ranch to create more depth in burned area from the perimeter before aerial ignitions began around the Arizona Trail. In Camp Geronimo, firefighters were able to apply fire just to the north of the camp to West Webber Creek. They also ignited to the east down Webber Road to the Control Road adding a protective buffer of fire around the entire northeast side of Camp Geronimo.
Today, firefighters working the West Fire will continue to hold the perimeter lines and mop up around Camp Geronimo. While the weather isn’t anticipated to be favorable for additional ignitions, conditions will be assessed throughout the day. The next part of the ignition plan includes applying fire along the Control Road to the west.
The Preacher Fire is now 62 percent contained. Engines and crews will continue to mop up and patrol the perimeter. Repair of the fire lines created to contain the fire will also begin.
Weather: Multiple rounds of showers and even a thunderstorm or two are forecasted for Monday, along with breezy and cooler conditions. There remains a high probability of 0.10-0.25 inches of total rainfall over the fire area through Monday evening. Highs in the 70’s. South-southwest winds at 12 to 16 mph with gusts between 25 and 30 mph. Dry, breezy, and cooler temperatures than normal on Tuesday. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s. South-southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Minimum humidity levels will range between 30 and 40%.
Safety: Two Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) are now in place over the area, which includes uncrewed aircraft systems or drones. The public is reminded, if you fly we can’t; unauthorized drone flights pose serious risks to firefighter and public safety and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations.
Closure: The Tonto National Forest has issued a closure for land surrounding the West Fire, this includes Pine Trailhead.
Due to increased fire activity, fire crews and equipment working in the area of Control Road and FSR 440, ingress/egress for the residents of Geronimo estates will be temporarily changed. Access to Geronimo Estates will be from State Route (SR) 87. Access will not be allowed from Houston Mesa Road. All local traffic trying to enter Geronimo Estates from Houston Mesa, will be rerouted to SR 87.
Evacuations: Geronimo Estates residents near the West Fire are in SET status. An interactive map is available to stay up to date with evacuation levels related to both the West and Preacher Fires.
Receive emergency notifications from Gila County.
Smoke: During ignitions, smoke may settle in low-lying areas overnight. Residents are encouraged to close windows at night to avoid smoke impacts. Talk with your doctor and plan for how to manage your health conditions when it is smoky. Additional resources for how to prepare for wildfire smoke.

Fire Information: 360-208-8096
Inciweb: https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/wancp-ruby-fire Email: 2024.Ruby@firenet.gov
Current Status: This weekend brought scattered precipitation, cool overnight temperatures, and shorter days (less daylight) which kept the fire within its footprint. Small patches of smoke were visible on the western edge of the fire. Firefighters continue to monitor fire behavior for spotting and growth. Crews continued to be staged in critical areas around the fire perimeter to help protect trails, campgrounds, and other values at risk. They also worked on hauling and consolidating inessential hoses and sprinkler equipment. This has meant a higher visible presence of firefighters working close to the road. Slow down. Travelers should use extra caution when traveling on State Route 20 (SR20) near Colonial Creek Campground to avoid inhibiting active firefighting operations.
Planned Actions: Firefighters will continue to focus on protecting critical infrastructure such as campgrounds, SR20, trails, and backcountry camps in preparation for possible fire growth. The Ruby Fire is a full suppression fire, and firefighters are using tactics with the highest chance for success, while reducing safety risks to themselves and the public.
Weather: Conditions will slightly dry out Monday before cool showers return Tuesday for another round of wetting rains. Temperatures will continue to remain below normal.
Closures: Multiple closures remain in place for public safety. Panther Creek Trail and Thunder Creek Trail north of Junction camps, are closed. Go to the park website https://go.nps.gov/fireclosures for a complete list.

Related Incident: Line Fire
Publication Type: News
There were cloudy skies, fog and trace amounts of rain over the Line Fire area Sunday night into Monday. Strong, southwesterly winds gusting to 25mph on the ridges and upper slopes fueled active fire behavior where heat still exists. The fire is still smoldering and creeping in dry vegetation. Firefighters are continuing building and strengthening control lines and mopping up hot spots.
Damage Inspection Teams (DINS) are working in the fire area. So far, they have identified three structures that were damaged and one that was destroyed. Their inspections include residences, multi-family dwellings, outbuildings, and commercial buildings.
There are currently 56,100 structures threatened, including 11,400 under Evacuation Orders and 44,700 under Evacuation Warnings. Damage Inspection Teams (DINS) are working in the fire area. So far, they have identified 3 structures that were damaged and 1 that was destroyed. Their inspections include residences, multi-family dwellings, outbuildings and commercial buildings.

Special Notes:
The mixed containment and confinement strategy is in full effect on the Wapiti Fire. Fall temperatures continue to support a reduction in fire behavior. Air quality and smoke outlooks have improved from the previous week allowing relief for the surrounding communities and businesses.
Additionally, Idaho Transportation Department is working to repair guardrails and road signs. The incident management team is preparing to move the Wapiti Fire command post west of Stanley to what was formerly the Valley Spike Camp.
Aviation resources are being shared with the Frog fire but are available to support the Wapiti Fire if needed.
Current Situation:
The east side of the fire has achieved containment along the Highway 21 corridor to Valley Creek. On the west side of the fire, confinement lines have been identified; these lines will be used to hold the fire in areas where it is not safe or effective to get crews on the ground. The confinement lines held near Eight Mile Ridge despite the winds today. The fire has reached 53% completion between both the containment and confinement objectives. Another storm is expected to bring additional precipitation, which will continue to moderate fire behavior. Last night was the final night operational shift, with fire behavior moderating and tactics transitioning to suppression repair there is no longer a need.
Division KK (Structure Group East), HH, and DD: Suppression repair efforts continued with the goal of repairing disturbances caused by the initial suppression and structure protection efforts. Miles of hose, pumps, and other equipment have been removed (backhauled) from the area over the weekend. Hazard tree removal and suppression repair in the Stanley Lake Recreation Area is continuing and should be completed soon.
Divisions MM and PP: Firefighters worked with resource advisors in division MM to continue suppression repair activities in addition to the removal of hazard trees. In division PP, north-east of Cape Horn, suppression repair activities were finalized on Sunday, with crews removing the structure protection equipment, including structure wrap at Camp Bradley.
Division WW and Structure Group West: Fire activity in the area has continued to hold, allowing firefighters to add to containment in the WW division. No additional growth was observed for a second day in a row, and aviation resources were not used due to minimal fire activity. Communities of Ten Ax, Two Ravens, Seven Peaks, and others South of Highway 21 have full structure protection mitigations in place with hoses, sprinklers, and fold-a-tank systems at the ready. Pump systems have been winterized and are staged in the area, ready for quick deployment if necessary. Structure protection equipment has been removed from the communities on the south side of the highway due to the change in fire potential. Careful planning and attention have been taken to ensure heavy equipment does not damage those communities.
Division VV: The Grandjean area is secure, and all the structure protection equipment was removed on Saturday. Sunday, homeowners were escorted into Grandjean to winterize their homes. Resources are hoping to complete suppression repair activities today.
Infrared flights show very little heat in heavy fuels closer to the interior. Natural barriers, such as rocky scree and cliffs continue to hold the perimeter in place.
Weather, Fuels, and Fire Behavior: On Monday there will be minimal precipitation until later in the afternoon and into Tuesday; up to 0.5 inch of accumulation is expected over the next three days. Wind gusts will decrease after the storm passes and relative humidity will increase to the 50-80% range.
Fall weather trends are continuing with cool mornings and temperatures in the low 70s throughout the day. Dry conditions are expected in lower elevations that precipitation may not reach, but fire activity is expected to remain low; creeping in some areas but not expanding.
