Air resources (helicopters) were shared with the Douglas Forest Protective Association to assist with initial attack, which resulted in extinguishing or limiting spread of these fires. Incident Commander Alan Lawson said the teamwork among several agencies for initial attack on new starts will continue today. Weather: Temperatures in the mid 70s with relative humidity 30-35%. For smoke information visit: AirNow.gov.Potter Fire: Yesterday, minimal fire behavior provided firefighters with good conditions for mop up and completing the remainder of a hand constructed fireline from Forest Road 179 to 269. On the south and west flanks firefighters are clearing vegetation away from Forest Roads 2154 and 2134 for contingency firelines and are patrolling fireline along Forest Roads 2136 and 267. Burnout operations on the northwest flank continue to bring fire downslope toward established firelines near the S. Fork of Staley Creek.Big Swamp Fire: There was light fire activity yesterday. Installation of a sprinkler system to connect an existing dozer line to the Middle Fork of the Willamette River near Forest Road 2153 was completed. The sprinkler system will increase moisture on this steep fireline and deter active fire from crossing. Mop up operations continue on the south and western portions of the fire.Windigo Fire: Minimal fire activity remained interior to firelines yesterday. Resource advisors, firefighters, and heavy equipment operators continue to complete fire suppression repair. This includes mitigating post-fire damages to cultural resources, protecting road systems from excessive erosion, and removing hazard trees along roads to provide for firefighter and public safety. Todos los bomberos necesitan estar preparados por cambios en la zona afectada tales como escombros rodando desde las partes más elevadas del terreno, así como también focos de fuego en el mismo.”Condiciones Climáticas.Esta en pie una Advertencia de Bandera Roja anunciando para el miércoles por la tarde y a tempranas horas de la noche, ráfagas de vientos y posibilidades de relámpagos generadas por la actividad del paso de tormentas. Se esperan lluvias fuertes y rápidas con la presencia de tormentas. La temperatura estará en los 90 grados con un19-20% de humedad relativa. Dichas condiciones, permitirán continuar con las operaciones controladas de quema en el área. En la parte sur del incendio, los bomberos se están dando a la tarea de limpiar la vegetación sobre la Carretera Forestal 2154 para ser usada como una línea de fuego indirecta. Al mismo tiempo, los bomberos están buscando la oportunidad de construir líneas de fuego en el flanco este de la zona afectada.Incendio Big Swamp: Debido a la mínima actividad del fuego el día de ayer, los bomberos lograron reforzar las líneas a lo largo del flanco este del incendio. Se mantendrán los mismos objetivos anteriores de priorizar la vida y la seguridad de los pobladores y de los bomberos. Mientras se esté trabajando en conjunto con la comunidad afectada, los encargados en el incendio utilizaran las tácticas de supresión basadas en un análisis estratégico de riesgo. Esto tiene como objetivos: minimizar las posibilidades de propagación del fuego, minimizar el impacto del incendio y de las actividades de supresión en el bosque, campamentos forestales, y estructuras de recreación. El grupo NWT10 permanecerá vigilante para cumplir con su misión y de la manera más segura posible mientras se den cambios en la asignación de recursos, cambios climáticos y en el comportamiento del incendio.Condiciones Climáticas. Incident objectives will remain the same with the priority in protecting the life and safety of the public and firefighters. Using suppression tactics validated by a strategic risk analysis, fire managers will work to minimize further fire spread, the impacts of wildfire and suppression activities on commercial timberland, forest campgrounds and recreational facilities while maintaining relationships within the community served. NWT10 will remain vigilant in accomplishing the established mission in the safest way possible as we experience changes in assigned resources, critical weather and fire behavior.Weather: Atmospheric instability will increase as temperatures rise, increasing the chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 89 degrees. Expect gusty outflow winds and brief heavy rainfall with any storm cells. Today on the east and south sides of the fire crews will continue with direct and indirect line preparation and attempt tactical burnout operations, as conditions permit.The Big Swamp Fire remains at 121 acres. Hotshot crews continued hand line construction around the perimeter of the fire. Mop up operations have started on the south and western portions of the fire. Hose lays are in place around parts of the fire without roads as containment features.The Windigo Fire is now 78% contained. Yesterday, crews completed mop up operations 100 ft. within the fire’s edge. Crews will begin repair work across the fire area in order to protect public safety and prevent further degradation of the landscape and to mitigate post-fire damages to cultural resource. Fire
The Windigo Fire is 1052 acres with 78% containment. The Potter Fire grew by 29 acres and is now 459 acres with 0% containment. The Big Swamp Fire remains at 121 acres with 0% containment. Smoke
Cedar Creek will be the primary producer of the smoke, but Potter will also contribute a fair amount. The main impacts will be felt in Oakridge this morning and in Crescent Lake early this morning and again this afternoon into tonight. However, the worse air quality will be experienced in the Waldo Lake area where satellite imagery is showing that thick smoke has settled there overnight. Moderate to USG AQ will likely remain in this area through tonight. A deeper SE flow will develop across the region tonight through Wednesday transporting the smoke northwestward, which should improve air quality in the all areas south and east of the Cedar Creek and Potter fires. Smoke could get pushed as far north as Eugene Wednesday.
