San Juan National Forest issues trail, road closures for Boggy Draw area prescribed fire operations 04-08-2024

DOLORES, Colo., April 8, 2024—The Boggy Draw Trailhead and portions of the Boggy Draw trail system will temporarily close to the public beginning April 9, 2024, for public and firefighter safety during prescribed fire operations.
Prescribed fires planned for the Columbine Ranger District 03-12-2024

BAYFIELD, Colo., March 12, 2024—The San Juan National Forest’s Columbine Ranger District is planning to conduct several prescribed burns between late March and early May. Ignitions will take place over several consecutive days and operations may take several weeks to complete.
Slash pile burning planned this fall and winter on San Juan National Forest

Pile burning operations will begin in November 2023 and extend into spring 2024Durango, Colo., November 7, 2023— The San Juan National Forest plans to burn slash piles this fall and winter generated from forest thinning and timber sales. Thinning projects improve forest health and wildlife habitat and reduce the risk of wildfire near private residences and infrastructure. Slash from these projects is piled and burned to remove the debris that could fuel wildfire.
Pagosa District-Mill Creek Unit - Prescribed Fire

Dolores District: Boggy Draw Units Prescribed Fire Update

Crews on the Dolores District have completed ignitions on the prescribed fire in the Boggy Draw area, 5 miles NE of Dolores. The boundaries of the burn area remain secure and controlled.
Columbine District - Southern HD Unit Prescribed Fire - East 4 Block - 09/21/2023

Ignitions for the prescribed burning operation continue today, September 21, 2023, on the East 4 Block within the Southern HD Unit of the #SanJuanNF. Resources are looking to complete the remaining 300-acres from yesterday's burn goal of 500-acres.
San Juan National Forest Prescribed Fire Project-Pagosa District-Echo Canyon Unit-9/23/2023

The USDA Forest Service - San Juan National Forest, Pagosa Ranger District, is planning to conduct several prescribed burns in the Echo Canyon Unit starting tomorrow, September 24th. Burning operations will take place over multiple days when weather and fuel conditions are favorable for ignition.
Pagosa Ranger District-Echo Canyon Unit 1-Prescribed Fire 9/25/2023

Prescribed burning operations on the USDA Forest Service - San Juan National Forest, Pagosa Ranger District, Echo Canyon Unit, have concluded ignitions for today, September 25th, at 4:50pm. Crews completed 40% of the prescribed 550-acre goal. Weather and fuel conditions permitting, the San Juan National Forest Prescribed Fire Project will continue tomorrow on the Echo Canyon Unit. If weather conditions are not deemed favorable for ignition, the prescribed burn will be re-scheduled for a later date. Some smoke may be visible through the next few days.

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo., September 6th, 2023— The San Juan National Forest’s Pagosa Ranger District is planning to conduct several prescribed burns starting in September. Burning operations may take place over multiple days when weather and fuel conditions are favorable for meeting objectives described in the prescribed fire plan. Burning operations will utilize both hand and aerial ignitions and will be conducted by Forest Service personnel and cooperating agencies.

Ignitions for the USDA Forest Service - San Juan National Forest Prescribed Fire Project continue today, September 27th, 2023, at 11am on the Echo Canyon Unit within the Pagosa Ranger District, USDA Forest Service - San Juan National Forest.Today's continued operation is located west of Rito Blanco Ranch on the southern end of the #SanJuanNF. Resources have scheduled to finish the Echo Canyon prescribed burn with Block 4. Crews are looking for a completed burn goal of 200-acres.
