This will be the FINAL written update from the Alaska Incident Management Team (IMT) concerning the Lost Horse Creek Fire (#296). If notable activity occurs, updates will be provided on AK Fire Info, Alaska DNR-DOF Facebook Page, and InciWeb. Starting Monday, August 21 at 8pm, the public and media should call the Alaska statewide fire information line at 907-356-5511 with any questions.

Firefighters have reached the goal of 23% containment on the Lost Horse Creek Fire (#296). While this number may seem low, the success of securing the southern end of the fire ensures protection for the communities near the fire area. With the containment objective met, the Alaska Incident Management Team (IMT) will prepare for a transition to a Type 3 Team on Tuesday, August 22 at 8:00 am. The Alaska IMT will provide information over the next two days with a FINAL Lost Horse Creek Fire Update posted Monday morning.

(Fairbanks, AK) – Yesterday, three crews initially scheduled to continue with mop-up operations along the southern perimeter were committed to the search for our missing firefighter. The missing firefighter was located the evening of Thursday, August 17th around 5:30 pm. He was assessed on scene by incident medical personnel and was transported in stable condition to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for further assessment. The firefighter was released from the hospital the same evening and is traveling home today.
