Members of the Pioneer Peak Hotshots cut and clear a fire break along the SW edge of the Lost Horse Creek Fire on August 15

The Lost Horse Creek Fire, located 22 miles north of Fairbanks, started on July 28, 2023 from a lightning strike and was primarily burning in black spruce forest. The fire was managed with initial attack until it expanded considerably on August 2 that led to evacuation orders. The Alaska Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command on August 4 at 8am. On August 22 at 8am, Type 3 Organization Incident Commander Mike Haisten assumed command.

If notable fire activity occurs, updates will be provided on AK Fire Info, Alaska DNR-DOF Facebook Page, and InciWeb. Starting Monday, August 21 at 8pm, the public and media should call the Alaska statewide fire information line at 907-356-5511 with any questions.
