Fuels Involved

Timber (Grass and Understory)
Light Logging Slash
Timber (Litter and Understory)

Timber with grass and light down and dead material is the primary carrier of fire. Dead fuels under the canopy are moderately receptive to fire spread. ROS during the burn period may approach 4 chains/hour especially when fuels have received some solar heating and/or exposure to winds.

Significant Events

Minimal

Smoldering

Creeping

High overnight RHs have kept fire activity subdued until later in the burn period. Declining ERCs from recent rains leveled off in the last two shifts due to warmer and drier afternoons. Heavier dead and down fuels and snags on south/southwest aspects showed open flame once exposed to solar heating but spread remains limited. Jackpots of heavy fuels, stump holes and snags remain the dominant source of fire activity for the rest of the fire and are continuing to burn out within the fire's current perimeter. Smoldering and creeping elsewhere. Smoke production is low to moderate.

Outlook
Planned Actions

Continue holding the established lines and containment areas. Use direct and close indirect tactics on remaining open line.

Projected Incident Activity

Chance of scattered showers, cloud cover and higher RHs will reduce fire activity. Expect smoldering and creeping in heavier fuels. No perimeter growth is expected; however, some infilling of unburned pockets is possible.

Current Weather
Weather Concerns

Morning fog gave way to sunny skies this afternoon. Temperatures reached the mid-60s to mid-70s by afternoon. Winds were west to northwest with gusts to 15 mph. A notable weather pattern change is on the horizon as more rain will spread over the region on Sunday. This storm system will also bring higher humidity and cooler temperatures.
