Forsythe II AM Update 04-24-2024

Firefighters have conducted a test fire and verified that conditions are good for prescribed fire ignitions to continue as planned today, Wednesday, April 24, for the Forsythe II Prescribed burn area. Smoke may be notably visible in the Gross Reservoir area as well as along the Front Range.

Fire managers are monitoring conditions for potential ignition tomorrow, Wednesday April 24, on the Forsythe II Prescribed Burn. Ignitions will be contingent on appropriate weather conditions falling within the parameters of the burn plan.

Fire managers anticipate additional opportunity for planned ignitions on the Forsythe II Prescribed Burn area as soon as Sunday, April 21. Ignitions will be contingent on appropriate weather conditions falling within the parameters of the burn plan. Fire managers will be monitoring for weather parameters such as wind speeds and fuel moistures for the area.

Crews spent the day continuing to mop-up the perimeter of the prescribed fire and worked on increasing the span of containment line surrounding yesterday's ignited areas of the Forsythe II Prescribed Fire. We do not plan to ignite tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17.

Ignitions are complete for today, Monday, April 15, after successfully treating 22 acres at the Forsythe II prescribed burn. Firefighters will remain in the area as they secure and monitor the perimeter of this burn unit. Smoke may continue to be visible in the Gross Reservoir area overnight.

Firefighters have conducted a test fire and determined that conditions are clear to allow ignitions to continue as planned today, Monday April 15, for the Forsythe II Prescribed burn area. Smoke may be visible in the area as well as along the Front Range in areas proximate to Gross Reservoir.

Today crews mopped up around the entire perimeter of the treated area. Cooler weather and moisture arrived – the project is currently receiving precipitation. No new ignitions occurred. Smoke may continue to be visible. Firefighters will continue to staff the area through the week and weekend.

No new ignitions are planned for today. Smoke may continue to be visible. Crews are mopping up and continuing to secure the area. Moisture and cooler weather are possible tomorrow which will assist that work. We’ve stepped up staffing due to red flag conditions, adding two more engines and additional personnel for any new fire starts.
Forsythe II Evening Update 04-17-2023

Ignitions have ceased for today on Forsythe II. Crews treated an additional 7 acres for a total of 307 acres since the start of this prescribed burn earlier this month. 24 personnel will staff the area overnight. Smoke may continue to be visible.
Forsythe II Update 04-07-2023

Ignitions began at approximately 2:00 p.m. today, April 17, on Forsythe II. Today’s ignitions are focused on interior clean up burning. Crews treated 180 acres yesterday for a total of 300 acres since the start of this prescribed burn earlier this month. Today we’ll go back through that area and treat pockets that didn’t burn to standards.
