ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – Minimal Fire activity occurred on the Richard Mountain Fire and crews were able to achieve 90% containment yesterday. The BLM Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team is also working to demobilize units assigned to the fire and prepare to turn management of the incident over to a local Type 4 team.

Richard Mountain fire crews shift focus to containment and rehabilitation

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – Fire activity continues to moderate on the Richard Mountain Fire and crews are focused on achieving 100% containment by reinforcing established control lines and install new lines as needed. The BLM Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team is also working with federal, state and local agency administrators to evaluate the fire area and implement rehabilitation measures.
Dangerous red flag weather conditions remain, and fire crews will engage the fire if the need arises and the probability of success is high. The Richard Mountain Fire is now estimated to be 7,633 acres, but the increase is due to more accurate mapping not fire activity. The fire is 40% contained and located about 5 miles north of Dutch John, UT or 50 miles south of Rock Springs, WY.
The closures along Browns Park Road and the “B” portion of the Green River between the Little Hole and Indian Crossing boat ramps have been lifted. Motorists traveling along Browns Park Road are being asked to drive slowly and be aware that firefighting equipment and personnel are present in the area.
The temporary closure along Clay Basin Road remains in effect but is being evaluated. Closures will be lifted when it is safe for the public to return to the area. Fire activity subsides but red flag weather conditions remain

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – Fire activity on the Richard Mountain Fire has diminished over the past 24 hours, but dangerous red flag weather conditions remain. Fire crews remain focused on keeping the fire west of Red Creek, south of Clay Basin Road, East of Highway 191, and north of Browns Park Road. Crews will also be reinforcing and securing fire lines to minimize fire spread potential, mopping up any remaining hot spots, and evaluating areas that may require rehabilitation.
The fire is approximately 7046 acres, 30% contained and located about 5 miles north of Dutch John, UT or 50 miles south of Rock Springs, WY. The fire burned in both Utah and Wyoming.
The closures along Browns Park Road and the “B” portion of the Green River between the Little Hold and Indian Crossing boat ramps have been lifted following discussions between the Incident Management Team and federal, state, and local agency administrators. Firefighting resources increasing on Richard Mountain Fire

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – Several wildland firefighting resources have arrived at the Richard Mountain fire burning approximately 50 miles south of Rock Springs in both Utah and Wyoming. A total of 217 firefighters are now working to keep the fire west of Red Creek, south of Clay Basin Road, East of Highway 191, and north of Browns Park Road.
“Overall, we had some decent weather conditions yesterday allowing us to get some valuable resources in place to work this fire,” said Operations Section Chief Mike Wengert. “We did have some fire move south of Browns Park Road yesterday afternoon, so we’re going to have 1 of our 3 divisions in that area focusing on keeping the fire contained west of Red Creek and north of the Goslin Mountains.”
The Richard Mountain Fire grew slowly over the past 12 hours and is approximately 7,064 acres, burning in pinyon pine, juniper, grass, and brush in steep terrain.
Today should be a critical day for crews working the Richard Mountain Fire as weather conditions could cause fire behavior to increase quickly.
The Richard Mountain Fire began at approximately 2 p.m. on August 3, 2020 and remains 0% contained. Fire crews will continue to engage the fire as necessary to protect valuable resources in the area when they have a high probability of success and risk to personnel is manageable. A temporary emergency closure for the “B” portion of the Green River from the Little hole boat ramp to the Indian Crossing boat ramp remains in effect.
