01252021 Pile burning this week in both western districts of the forest

Extensive pile burning is planned this week in both the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District and the Salmon/Scott River Ranger District.

Happy Camp/Oak Knoll

Pile burning continues in the Elk Creek area, 3 miles north of Sulphur Springs. 60 acres is planned for today.

927 acres of road-side machine piles along Bear Peak Road between Dry Lake and the Elbow Springs Trailhead is planned for this week.

An additional 999 acres of machine piles will be burned in the Slippery View River Access area

Salmon/Scott River

30 acres of hand piles is planned in the Jack Unit 1 project area near Jackson Creek along the Cecilville Road. Smoke may be visible in Callahan.

44 acres is planned in the area of Greenhorn Creek in the GHR7 project. Smoke may be visible from Yreka and Greenhorn

Today two districts plan to burn piles.

In the Salmon/Scott River Ranger District, 1 acre of pile burning is planned on Unit 1 of the Jack Project near Cecilville Road in the area of Jackson Creek.

In the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District, 15 acres of hand piles is planned near Fish Gulch.

All ignitions are monitored until called out.  Smoke may remain in the area for several days after ignition.  Please do not call to report.

Today pile burning continues in the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District

In Beaver Creek near Fish Gulch, 39 acres is planned for Units 121 and 132.

In Elk Creek, 3 miles north of Sulphur Springs, 15 acres is planned.

The Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District is planning pile burning today.

10 acres is planned in Elk Creek, 3 miles north of Sulphur Springs Campground. Smoke may be visible along Elk Creek Road.

27 acres of piles is also planned in Beaver Creek in the area of Fish Gulch.

The Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District will be burning approximately 45 acres of piles this week in the area of Elk Creek.  15 acres is planned for today.

Travelers on the Elk Creek Road may see smoke.  There may be residual smoke for several days after initial ignition.  Please do not call to report.

Today pile burning continues in the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District.

10 acres of piles is planned along Elk Creek in the Elk Creek South Unit 1 project area, approximately 8 miles south of Happy Camp.

49 acres of piles is planned in the Buckhorn Ridge area near Round Mountain and Salt Lick Gulch, part of the Happy Oak Pile Unit 119.10 project area.

Smoke may be visible and can be expected for several days after initial ignition. Project areas are continuously patrolled until the burned piles are called out.  For your safety, please do not enter project areas.

Pile burning continues in the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District.

16 acres of piles is planned for today (Tuesday, January 12, 2021) along Elk Creek in the Elk Creek South Unit 1 project area, approximately 8 miles south of Happy Camp.

30 acres of piles is planned in the Buckhorn Ridge area near Round Mountain and Salt Lick Gulch, part of the Happy Oak Pile Unit 119.10 project area.

Smoke may be visible and can be expected for several days after initial ignition. Project areas are continuously patrolled until the burned piles are called out.  For your safety, please do not enter project areas.

Today the district will burning in two areas:

In the Oak Knoll area, 20 acres is planned southwest of Round Mountain on Unit 119-10.

In the Happy Camp area, 15 acres is planned in the Elk Creek drainage.

The Salmon/Scott River Ranger District plans to burn 124 acres this week on Jack Unit 1, southwest of Callahan, near Route 93 (Callahan-Cecilville Road.)

20 acres near Little Jackson Creek is planned for today (Monday, January 11)

Smoke may be visible from the roadway and may remain in the area for several days after initial ignition.  Please do not report.

01052021 Pile burning resumes on the Klamath National Forest

Today pile burning will resume with 10 acres planned for Greenhorn Ridge on the Salmon/Scott River Ranger District, and 16 acres planned in Beaver Creek on the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District.

Additionally, 50 acres is planned in the Elk Creek area on the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District.

Smoke may be visible though is not expected to impact local communities.  Please do not call to report.
