Fire and Weather: Crews continue to burn out where possible to increase containment of the fires, while other crews are actively mopping up and patrolling areas that are cooler along the containment lines. Detailed Fire information can be found on Facebook and Inciweb. Winds throughout the forecast area over the next 48 hours are inconsistent in direction at the surface making it difficult to accurately forecast smoke locations and concentrations.

Smoke: Color codes for communities on the map show 24 hour averages. Smoke models show the smoke clearing out of the I-5 corridor between Roseburg and Grants Pass today and Sunday. Variable smoke impacts may be seen south to southeast of the fires through the day today, improving this evening, and worsening again overnight. Unhealthy air quality will impact communities east of the fires today with conditions improving Sunday afternoon.

Health: Limit outdoor activity during periods of unhealthy air quality. Wear an N95 mask if your spending time outside. Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory issues are more sensitive to the negative effects from smoke. Keep the air conditioner in your car set on recirculate while travelling to improve air quality in your vehicle.

Chaos and Little Bend Fires:
The Chaos fire is at 20,513 acres and the Little Bend fire is at 7,363 acres. The north end of the Chaos received additional resources to assist with indirect line construction in preparation for additional firing operations in the coming days. Good progress is being made improving line on the 2715 road. South of the Jack, firefighters are slowly working their way down the 100 road to the 2871 road slowly and methodically using fire to consume fuels between them and the main fire. Over the next few days, they will tie the line into the Near Minky, securing the western edge of the Buckhead and Near Minky fires.

Near Minky Fire: The Near Minky fire is at 4,833 acres. This fire is located south of the Jack and Buckhead fires. The eastern edge and a portion of the western edge have been contained. Weather and Fire:
Weather today will be similar to weather yesterday with slightly warmer temperatures and lower relative humidities. Crews continue to burn out where possible to increase containment of the fires, while other crews are actively mopping up and patrolling areas that are cooler along the containment lines. The Devils Knob Complex is 39,451 acres, the Rough Patch Complex is 36,107 acres, and the Jack Fire is 23,987 acres. Additional fire information can be found on Facebook and Inciweb.
Smoke:
Smoke conditions throughout the forecast area today should be similar to yesterday. Air quality at Crater Lake should be good until this evening. Tomorrow additional smoke may move into the I-5 corridor between Roseburg and Grants Pass.
Health:
Protect your health. Avoid spending time outside when air quality is poor. If you need to be outside, limit strenuous activity and wear an N-95 mask. The N-95 mask will filter out limited particulate matter. Don’t rely on an N-95 mask for total protection. Cloth masks worn for Covid protocols are not effective filters for particulates and do not offer protection against smoke.

Resources started working on the 3815 to the 3810 road to prevent growth to the west and south.

Jack and Buckhead Fires: The Jack fire is at 23,987 acres and the Buckhead fire is at 4,498 acres. The west, north, and northeast end of the Jack fire has been contained and is being patrolled. Efforts are focused on two burning operations – the first will fill in pockets of unburned fuel along the 2715 road on the southwest side of the Jack fire. The second will bring fire down the 100 road to the 2871 road to tie the Buckhead into the Near Minky. These burning operations will take place over the next few days as conditions are favorable.

Indirect line construction along the 020 road is progressing with Northern Rockies Team 1 and the Florida Red Team sharing resources.

Weather: Warmer and drier weather is expected going into the weekend. An east wind was over the fire last night, pushing smoke to the west. Weather and Fire: Winds last night ranged from the E at Diamond Lake to from the N over the majority of the forecast area. Today winds shift from NE to NW around Toketee, remain out of the N in Roseburg, shift between N to NE around Medford, and stay Northerly near Chiloquin. Temperatures and relative humidities will remain similar to yesterday. Crews continue to burn out where possible to increase containment of the fires, while others are actively mopping up and patrolling areas that are cooler along the containment lines. The Devils Knob Complex is 38,000 acres, 25% contained: the Rough Patch Complex is 35,054 acres, 17% contained: and the Jack Fire is 23,985 acres, 53% contained.

Smoke: NE winds in the Toketee vicinity Monday night helped to clear the smoke out of Crater Lake Rim yesterday morning. Similar clearing should occur today. Diamond Lake often has worse air quality since it is closer to the active fires and smoke tends to pool in, and travel along, the Hwy 138 corridor. North winds near Roseburg should keep the area clear of smoke. Medford air quality will deteriorate through the day and improve overnight. Chiloquin may have the best air quality for a few hours after noon.
