Cause: Under Investigation 

Resources are continuing to construct line and provide structure protection within the impacted area. There were numerous structures threatened with an unconfirmed number of structures lost. Fire behavior has moderated slightly, with wind speeds sustained at approximately 15mph. Leadership is continuing to make tactical decisions keeping weather predictions in mind. 

Evacuations are still in place, with evacuated residents able to shelter at The Church at Bushland, 1800 FM2381, Bushland.

Location: Brooks County near Encino, off of FM 755 and County Road 304
Acreage: approximately 2,000 acres
Containment: 90% contained
Cause: Roadside Ignition

Dozer and engine crews have worked well into the evening to complete containment lines. Dozers have completed tying in lines along the eastern flank. The fire is no longer active but lines are secured to prepare for elevated fire weather conditions expected tomorrow. The 755 Fire will be turned over to local jurisdiction tonight for monitoring. 

735 Fire Final Update February 16 2022 1400

Location: Jim Wells County, northwest of Palito Blanco near off of County Road 735
Acreage: 480 acres
Containment: 100%
Cause: Roadside Ignition

Crews returned to the 735 Fire this morning. Heavy equipment worked to improve containment lines while other crews patrolled the fire perimeter and mopped up any areas of concern. This afternoon the fire was turned over to the local fire department to monitor.

Childress Task Force from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS), returned to Key fire this morning. TAMFS crew along with Iowa Park crew, drove around the fire to asses control lines. Local responders mopped up and secured control lines and will continue to patrol lines thoroughout the day. TAMFS resources cleared Key fire.

Various local fire departments along with State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) and Federal resources from Sheppard Air Force Base, responded to assist Iowa Park Fire Department with a wildfire that started in a Wildland Urban Interface location. There were 30 homes and 40 outline buildings threatened. Local responders direct saved 15 homes and 22 outline buildings. There were no homes loss but there was 1 abandoned outline building loss. TAMFS dozers constructed containment line around the perimeter of Key fire. Local responders mopped up and secured control lines and will continue to patrol lines overnight. TAMFS resources cleared Key fire for the night and will return tomorrow morning to patrol and make any line improvements if needed.

Last night, firefighters completed containment lines around the fire perimeter and mopped up hot spots close to the edge. Local resources will be back out on scene today to assess if further assistance is needed.

Firefighters have made good progress on fire containment efforts. Forward progression of the fire has been stopped. Crews are continuing to work on completing containment line construction around the fire perimeter and mop up any hot spots close to the edge. 

Fire Weather:
Fire weather concerns remain elevated across the area today with gusty southwest winds in the 15-25 mph range with gusts between 25-35 mph. RH values look to remain generally above 20%, avoiding critical criteria. Winds are expected to remain gusty through the night and into early Wednesday morning. RH values will recover well overnight and likely stay above 30% on Wednesday.

The Seep Draw Complex was multiple roadside starts that grew into 3 separate fires within close proximity to each other. The fires were 520 acres, 18 acres, and 1 acre. The fire has been turned back over to local resources and all state and TIFMAS resources are off the fire.

Firefighters will return to the fire this morning to monitor and mop up hot spots around the perimeter. Windy conditions and warmer afternoon temperatures will be monitored today to determine if any possible problems could arise. More accurate mapping of the fire area will be performed today.
