Fire resources are currently on scene and working to patrol the fire area. Smoke is seen from the fire area and crews will work to ensure nothing threatens containment lines.
Fire Weather: Expect south winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph today. For tonight, expect south to southeast winds of around 20 mph with a few gusts near 35 mph. The RH values will fall to around 25 percent at Noon, with a minimum RH of around 15 percent by 4 pm. The RH values will recover slowly this evening to around 45 percent by Midnight. The maximum RH will be near 100 percent by Monday morning. Also, a few showers and an isolated thunderstorm are possible late tonight.

On March 17, 2022, the fire escaped containment lines on the east side due to high winds that had caused fire activity to pick up during the afternoon. Forward progression was quickly stopped and fire crews along with aviation were able to get containment line around the active portion of the fire.
Today and yesterday, engine crews patrolled the fire and worked to mop up hotspots along and near containment lines. Smoke was seen across the fire area this morning as interior vegetation continues to smolder.

Elevated fire weather conditions today resulted in increased fire behavior. Crews are working into the evening hours on bolstering containment lines around the perimeter utilizing heavy equipment and aviation resources.

Local responders continue to patrol and mop up hot spots on the Crews Gap fire, TAMFS representatives checked up with them periodically through yesterday and this morning. The fire is looking good, however with the threat of Southern Plains Wildfire Outbreak today, their are concerns of rekindle. local crews will continue to monitor fire through today.

Diminishing winds decreased fire activity significantly towards the evening, there was one area of concern on the East end of the fire, but crews where able to quickly engage and suppress the issue. Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) resources have cleared the scene and a TIFMAS crew will continue to monitor the fire until midnight and will return in the morning to continue patrolling and mopping up.

Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) dozers and motor graders continue to construct and improve control lines as well as continuing to burnout pockets of unburnt fuel further improving the containment line. Local resources continue to work in unified command with TAMFS and are patrolling, mopping up, and securing the control lines.
Motor vehicle advisory, responders continue to work and stage along HWY 153, please slow down and stay alert for personnel along the sides of the highway.

Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) dozers and motor graders continue to construct and improve control lines. Fire activity has decreased allowing fire crews to conduct burnout operations to improve containment lines. Local resources are patrolling, mopping up, and securing the control lines.
Advice motorist to please be vigilant of fire crews working on the area of FM 2132 and Hwy 153, as low visibility is present from to smoke over the road due to burnout operations. If driving through that area, please have your lights on, reduce your speed and use hazard lights.
Resources are ready to respond to any initial attack if the need arises.

State resources from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) continue to work on the Crews Gap Fire today. Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) patrolled and mopped up overnight. Dozers and motor graders continue to construct and improve south control lines. The 2 Very Large Air Tanker (VLAT) are supporting the ground crews with retardant drops over the active fire line to allow for the engine crew to engage with fire suppression operations. Local resources will be patrolling, mopping up, and securing the control lines. Winds are expected to increase this afternoon and the forecast the wind to shift from the south. These conditions will lead to high to extreme fire danger for today. Resources are ready to respond to any initial attack if the need arises.

Winds have diminished, reducing fire activity providing responders a chance to make good progress with line construction on the South side of the fire. Local responders continue to work in unified command assisting with suppression efforts. Crews will continue to work through the night and aviation resources are expected to be back up first thing in the morning.

Crews Gap Fire is currently at 10% containment. Dozers from Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) have began constructing containment line around the perimeter of the fire. 2 large air tankers (LAT) assisted the ground crews with retardant drops to cool off the North Flank of the fire, slowing progression to buy time for ground resources to construct containment line. Local responders are working in unified command assisting with suppression efforts. The community of Glen Cove had started evacuations at first, but due to a southward change in the wildfires progression the evacuations have ceased.
