With advancing thunderstorms moving into the fire area Thursday afternoon, firefighters disengaged from fire operations. Outflow winds preceded the rain, causing fire weakened trees to fall. Lightning also posed a risk.

With these safety concerns, firefighters will not re-engage in fire operations until Friday morning. Work tomorrow will consist of locating undetected heat near the fire perimeter and monitoring for new fires caused by lightning strikes.

With the arrival of this beneficial moisture, containment has increased to 85%. Resources continue to be released from the Pine Pond Fire with a remaining 56 personnel working towards completion of the incident objectives.

Additional resources are being released with an increase to 65% containment on Wednesday. Fire behavior today was minimal with all heat and smoke located inside the fire perimeter. 

74 resources will continue the good work that has occurred over the past several days.  Along with patrolling the fire’s edge and cooling pockets of heat, backhaul operations are taking place.  This includes pulling hose lays that are no longer needed and breaking down portable water tanks.  This equipment will be cleaned, tested and prepared for use on another fire.There was no need for aircraft on Wednesday and a recon flight is not planned at this time.

With in an increase to 60% containment, fire resources will continue to be released and made available to assist with fires across the state.  The remaining 89 resources will continue to patrol the fireline, mop-up remaining pockets of heat, and strengthen containment lines.  There was no need for aircraft on Tuesday but they remain available should a future need arise.

Fire behavior was minimal today. Any remaining heat is well within the interior and does not pose a threat to containment lines at this time.

The Pine Pond fire saw no growth on Monday with the only fire activity being remaining heat well within the fire perimeter.

Firefighters coordinated with water dropping aircraft to cool down what little heat remains, and ensure the fire perimeter is not threatened.

Containment remains at 50%.

Resources continue to patrol the fire’s edge and extinguish hotspots. Smoke is visible due to fire activity within the interior of the fire. This fire behavior does not pose a threat at this time.

A morning recon flight found minimal fire activity. A second recon flight is scheduled for this afternoon. Aerial resources such as helicopters remain available to assist if needed.

No structures have been destroyed. No injuries have been reported by first responders or the public.

Firefighters have spent the day locating hotspots and installing hose lays along dozer lines. Once a hotspot is identified, crews use water to cool the heat and dig line around the spot. Dozers are being utilized to clear vegetation around hotspots to prevent further spread.

The afternoon recon flight did not take place since fire activity was minimal. Aircraft remain available if a need arises.

No structures have been destroyed. No injuries have been reported by first responders or the public.

Containment has increased to 40% because of firefighter efforts over the past few days and today. A strike team of 5 engines will remain on the fire for night shift.

Crews monitored and patrolled the fire last night and throughout the early morning hours with no significant changes to the fire behavior noted.

Day shifts crews are about to be briefed and daytime firefighting operations will commence soon.

Cause: Under investigation

Containment increased to 45% as crews continued to meet objectives on Saturday. Firefighters are actively seeking out hotspots along the fire's edge and conducting mop-up operations to cool any remaining heat.

While residents may access their homes in the area, the Incident Management Team asks that all non-residents avoid the area. There are multiple crews, large vehicles and heavy equipment along the roads in and around the fire area. For public and firefighter safety, anyone driving in the area should reduce speeds and turn on headlights for visibility.

With the significant decrease in fire activity and an increase to 50% containment, this will be the last planned update. We will provide updates on this Facebook page as notable activity occurs moving forward. This includes changes to containment and fire behavior.

Over 100 resources are working on the fire. Firefighters will continue to patrol for hotspots and conduct mop-up operations over the upcoming days. There has been no growth for three (3) days.

Texas A&M Forest Service is working closely with Bastrop County and other partner agencies to meet the objectives for suppression repair and reaching 100% containment.

Texas Department of Public Safety, in coordination with Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), conducted an aerial recon mission with a drone on Sunday evening. Data from this flight will assist firefighters in locating pockets of heat both along the fire perimeter and within the interior.
