Four Corners PM Update August 18

Related Incident: Four Corners Fire
Publication Type: News

Activity on the Four Corners Fire increased this afternoon, pushing the fire primarily to the east, toward Lake Cascade.  The fire has crossed the ridge at the head of Silver Creek and the 435 Road.  Water scooping aircraft dropped water on the flames to support firefighting resources working on the ground.  More accurate mapping will occur this evening and an updated acreage will be available in the morning.

At this time, the Valley County Sheriff has issued evacuation orders (Go) for area residents of God’s Acres and French Creek.  The Sheriff’s Office is closing the area and making notifications through Code Red.  Please evacuate immediately if you are asked to in the direction you are asked to leave.  All residents at French Creek and south are advised to leave via the south.  And those north of French Creek should leave to the north.  Additional firefighting resources are responding to the area and will also be on the roadways.

A pre-evacuation alert (Set) was given to residents in the Campbell Creek area.  These residents should be ready to leave immediately if asked.  Homeowners should be prepared to leave as quickly as possible should the fire continue to grow and necessitate additional evacuations.

Packing tips and other information can be found at https://www.wildlandfirersg.org/.  Packing should include the six Ps:

  • People and pets

  • Papers, phone numbers, and important documents

  • Prescriptions, vitamins, and eyeglasses

  • Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia

  • Personal computer hard drive and disks

  • “Plastic” (credit cards, ATM cards) and cash

Please be aware that water scooping aircraft continue to use the southernmost section of Lake Cascade to scoop water for dropping on the fire.  Boaters should be cautious on the water and aware that the aircraft may use other areas of the lake as needed.  Additionally, the aircraft have drawn attention from viewers parking along Lakeshore Drive.  Use caution when traveling through the area.

Closure:  For the safety of firefighters and the public, the Payette and Boise National Forests enacted an area closure order today.  The complete closure order – including a full description of the trails, roads, and areas closed and an accompanying map – is available at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/8331/.

White River and Irving Peak Fires Spanish Language Update August 21 2022

Related Incident: White River (& Irving Peak)
Publication Type: News

White River and Irving Peak Fires Update August 21 2022

Related Incident: White River (& Irving Peak)
Publication Type: News

Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.

Suppression Strategy: Both fires are being suppressed with a combination of strategies and tactics that provide the highest likelihood of success while mitigating risks to fire fighters. There is no opportunity for firefighters to work safely and effectively at the fire’s edge in this extremely steep and inaccessible terrain. Instead, firefighters are constructing indirect fire line using existing roads that will more effectively contain the fire if conditions encourage its spread.

Operations: Firefighters have assessed over 430 structures near Lake Wenatchee, and continue structure preparation. Crews are putting incident objectives into action, creating indirect fire lines along the White River Road, Sears Creek Road, and Little Wenatchee Road. Chipper operators anticipate a few more days of work clearing brush along Forest Road 6404.

Evacuations: Chelan County Sheriff's office has issued a Level 3evacuation (Go Now) for Sears Creek Road, White River Road is at a Level 2 (Be Prepared), and Little Wenatchee Road is at a Level 1 (Stay Alert). Emergency personnel are in the process of advising residents in the area. Residents of five homes were evacuated from the Sears Creek Area.

Weather: Yesterday a round of thunderstorms brought scattered precipitation in the area with the greatest amount along the eastern side of the White River Fire. Firefighters are monitoring the sites of a few lightning strikes for potential new fires. Today, expect warm and dry conditions with a light wind. A humid and cool morning will give way to warm and dry conditions into the afternoon.

Fire Behavior: Fire activity should be low to moderate today. Persistent clouds and smoke will moderate fire activity. With warm and dry conditions at high elevations, the Irving Peak Fire has spread into the Panther Creek watershed along the saddles of Wenatchee Ridge.

Closures: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued a closure order for the White River Fire area:https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1054295.pdf
Additionally, it is recommended to avoid recreating in the Little Wenatchee and White River Road (FS Roads 6500 and 6400) areas.

Restrictions: Campfires are not allowed anywhere within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Stage 2 Restrictions are now in effect for the entire forest, including campgrounds and wilderness areas:https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/alerts-notices/...

Pacific Crest Trail: Smoke is visible from the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). While there is currently no impact to the PCT, hikers should be aware that Little Wenatchee Ford and White River Trailheads are closed and cannot be used to access the PCT.

Safety Message: Firefighter crews and equipment are busy in and around the fire area. Helicopters and water-scooping aircraft are periodically active on Lake Wenatchee. Be prepared to clear areas of the lake and stay close to shore when scooper aircraft are operating. Please avoid all areas where people and equipment are working. Be cautious and continue to do all you can to prevent wildfires.

White River and Irving Peak Fires Update August 20 2022

Related Incident: White River (& Irving Peak)
Publication Type: News

Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. After clouds prevented an infrared flight for a couple days, an infrared flight yesterday provided fire personnel with a more accurate estimate of acres burned.

Operations: Crews continue to make good progress on prepping roads and chipping along White River and Road Forest Road 6404. They anticipate completing that work today. Sawyers are progressing up Forest Road 6500 felling dangerous snags while chipping crews follow behind them. Firefighters completed installation of sprinklers around buildings and will be testing those sprinkler systems today. A night crew is monitoring the fire and scouting possible fire line locations near Forest Road 6404.

Evacuations: Chelan County Sheriff's office has issued a Level 3 evacuation (Go Now) for Sears Creek Road, White River Road is at a Level 2 (Be Prepared), and Little Wenatchee Road is at a Level 1 (Stay Alert). Weather: The possible storms yesterday swung south of Chelan County, allowing firefighters to focus on the White River and Irving Peak fires, rather than adding additional complexity from potential new lightning starts. Today’s weather should be a little cooler with good relative humidity and light winds. However, smoke will linger today, especially in creek drainages and lower elevations.

Fire Behavior: Persistent clouds and smoke will moderate fire activity. As fuels are dry, warm and dry conditions may cause additional fire spread on the upper slopes on the Irving Peak Fire, as the fire has begun to crest the western ridge into the wilderness.

COVID-19: On Thursday, August 18 Chelan County moved into HIGH for COVID-19 Community Level. Fire personnel are implementing precautions to reduce the risk of transmission at fire camp and out in the field. For current COVID-19 guidance and information visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/

White River and Irving Peak Fire Update August 18 2022

Related Incident: White River (& Irving Peak)
Publication Type: News

Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.

Suppression Strategy: Both fires are being suppressed with a combination of strategies and tactics that provide the highest likelihood of success while mitigating risks to firefighters. Values at risk include human safety, private property, recreational resources and critical habitat for threatened and endangered species. Extremely steep and inaccessible terrain require that firefighters construct indirect fire line using existing roads, in some cases a considerable distance from the fire’s burning edge. There is no opportunity for firefighters to work safely and effectively directly at the fire’s edge in this terrain and fuel.

Fire Information Community Meeting: A public meeting to provide information on the fires will be held Today, August 18, at 7:00 p.m., at the Plain Community Church, 12565 Chapel Drive, Leavenworth, WA. The meeting will also be available live online at: https://fb.me/e/2cpPULApB

Operations: Both fires have burned approximately 943 acres combined. Moderate fire growth was observed yesterday, but no updated acre measurement was obtained for the past 24 hours. Growth was primarily uphill, while water-dropping aircraft helped to moderate spread downhill toward values at risk. Aircraft are not expected to extinguish the fire, but to assist firefighters in keeping fire behavior in check until long term fire barriers can be established around the perimeter of the fires. Yesterday, firefighters worked along Little Wenatchee Road, White River Road, and Sears Creek Road, securing threatened structures, and preparing roads to be used as containment lines when needed. Today, firefighters continue to scout and assess roads to serve as containment lines when needed, assessing the threat to structures and planning for structure protection.

Evacuations: Chelan County Sheriff's office has issued a Level 3 evacuation (Go Now) for Sears Creek Road, White River Road is at a Level 2 (Be Prepared), and Little Wenatchee Road is at a Level 1 (Stay Alert). Emergency personnel are in the process of advising residents in the area. Residents of five homes were evacuated from the Sears Creek Area.

Fire Behavior: Fire is burning on steep terrain with heavy dead and down fuels. There is flanking spread, with downhill rollout in avalanche chutes. The majority of spread has been south towards Wenatchee ridge through single tree and group torching with short range spotting.

Weather: Today, cloud cover, slightly cooler temperatures and slightly higher humidity will help moderate fire spread and spotting potential. There is a slight chance for isolated thunderstorms with associated gusty winds.

Closures: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued a closure order for the White River Fire area. Please see the closure order here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1054295.pdf. It is recommended that the public avoid recreating in the Little Wenatchee and White River Road (FS Roads 6500 and 6400) areas. The Pacific Crest Trail is not affected by this fire.

Restrictions: Campfires are not currently allowed anywhere within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Stage 2 Restrictions are now in effect for the entire forest, including campgrounds and wilderness areas.

Pacific Crest Trail: Smoke is visible from the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). While there is currently no impact to the PCT, hikers should be aware that Little Wenatchee Ford and White River Trailheads are closed and cannot be used to access the PCT.

Safety Message: Firefighter crews and equipment are busy in the fire area. Helicopters and water-scooping aircraft are very active on Lake Wenatchee. Please be prepared to clear areas of the lake where scooper aircraft are operating. Please avoid all areas where people and equipment are working. Be cautious and continue to do all you can to prevent wildfires.
