INCIDENT INFORMATION
Start Date: 09/05/2022 Location: Converse Creek drainage in the Santa Ana River watershed in San Bernardino County CA Engines: 12 Crews: 8 Water Tenders: 3 Size: 1079 acres Percent containment: 68% Cause: Undetermined Dozers: 2 Aircraft: 2 Total Personnel: 306
CURRENT CONDITIONS:
The fire perimeter held, other than a small slop over on the western edge of the Radford Fire yesterday. Helicopters were able to extinguish the flames with water drops. Firefighters were able to construct line around it, secure it, and mop up to strengthen the containment line.
On the southern and eastern edge, there was no threat to the fire perimeter and ground resources worked to backhaul hose and prepare for suppression repair efforts. Today, firefighters continue to concentrate on suppression repair. This includes hauling out trash, hand-line and road-repair. Road repair involves cleaning out culverts and drains of debris and dirt, pulling back berms where dozers graded roads and chipping all cut vegetation along roads.
Today, increased moisture over the fire area remains from Tropical Storm Kay with predicted thunderstorms. This current weather pattern will continue to bring scattered showers, lightning, and the potential for mud and debris flows.
WEATHER:
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted with temperatures 65-70 degrees. Relative humidity is at 40 percent with winds from the southwest at 5 to 8 mph and gusts to 15 mph.

Radford Fire Daily Update for September 11 2022
Related Incident: Radford
Publication Type: News
CURRENT CONDITIONS:
The fire perimeter held, other than a small slop over on the northern edge of the Radford Fire yesterday. This was most likely caused by ember cast or a burning log. Firefighters were able to construct line around it, secure it, and mop up to strengthen the containment line.
On the southern edge, there was no threat to the fire perimeter and ground resources worked to backhaul hose and prepare for suppression repair efforts. Today, firefighters are concentrating on suppression repair. This includes hauling out trash, hand-line and road-repair. Road repair involves cleaning out culverts and drains of debris and dirt, pulling back berms where dozers graded roads and chipping all cut vegetation along roads.
The Radford Fire area received 0.33 inch of rain yesterday from Tropical Storm Kay. Some heat remains in downed fuels and stump holes within the interior. There is no threat to the fire perimeter, however firefighters continue to search out and to extinguish these heat sources.
WEATHER:
Today will see clearing of the cloud cover. Solar heating will dry out and warm up the ground and increase the thunderstorm potential. Expected temperatures of 70 degrees and a change in wind direction from southeast to southerly at 6-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.

Radford Fire Update September 10 2022
Related Incident: Radford
Publication Type: News
INCIDENT INFORMATION
CURRENT CONDITIONS:
Weather played a major factor in firefighting operations yesterday by reducing fire activity. Sustained winds from the southeast registered at 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph which tested the containment lines around the fire perimeter. The western perimeter held, and the fire behavior was moderate with mostly low intensity ground fire. Crews worked arduously throughout the day improving, securing, and patrolling those lines.
WEATHER:
The remnants of tropical storm Kay will continue to bring occasional showers and thunderstorms through the weekend along with wind with gusts up to 30 mph. The cloud cover will be intermittent today and the sun may dry out vegetation in the fire area. Although containment has increased, the fire is not out. A flash flood watch is in effect for the San Bernardino Mountains, including the fire area until 8PM Saturday evening.

Radford Fire Daily Update for September 9 2022
Related Incident: Radford
Publication Type: News
Start Date: 09/05/2022
Location: Converse Creek drainage in the Santa Ana River watershed in San Bernardino County CA
Engines: 44
Crews: 15
Water Tenders: 8
Size: 1088 acres
Percent containment: 59%
Cause: Undetermined
Dozers: 7
Aircraft: 5
Total Personnel: 632
CURRENT CONDITIONS:
Yesterday, the fire behavior was moderate with mostly low intensity ground fire. Rain showers aided firefighting resources who worked hard increasing containment lines, securing completed lines, and mopping up the area. Air resources have reached their target of placing Phos-Chek around the entire fire perimeter. Phos-Chek is a biodegradable chemical used to slow down the forward movement of wildfire.
Today, strong east/southeast winds are expected to impact the fire area increasing potential of fire spread to the west and northwest. Resources will continue to go direct on the fire with the objective to keep the fire north of State Route 38 to prevent the fire from spreading into the San Gorgonio Wilderness and recreation facilities. Firefighters will continue strengthening control lines and be supported by aircraft due to the potential for strong winds this afternoon.
WEATHER:
Hurricane Kay will bring a variety of weather hazards over the fire through the weekend. Increasing cloud cover has allowed for cooler temperatures and high humidity along with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will max out in the upper 60’s today. Showers over the burn area will increase this afternoon and lead to potential flash flooding and debris flow over the burned terrain. A flash flood watch is in effect for the fire area through Saturday evening.

Water Tenders: 8
Size: 1100 acres
Percent containment: 2%
Cause: Undetermined
Dozers: 7
Aircraft: 5
Total Personnel: 632
CURRENT CONDITIONS:
The Radford Fire was spotted at 1:30 p.m. along the Radford Truck Trail on September 5, 2022. It is located between Big Bear Lake to the north and Barton Flats to the south in the Santa Ana drainage in the Converse Creek subdrainage.
The priority work for today will be strengthening hand and dozer lines on the northern perimeter where the fire is moving over the ridge towards the communities of Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City. There was minimal fire activity in this area yesterday. When the wind in the Santa Ana drainage began to shift in the early afternoon, the fire did spot over dozer lines on the northwest side. All spots were “caught” and lined with handlines. Retardant is in place along the northern half of the fire perimeter.
Today, the line along the southeast side will be widened and strengthened. The western perimeter is very steep and rugged and there is little fire-line in place. Firefighters are looking for accessible ridges to build indirect line on this side of the fire. Contingency lines have been put in place around most of the fire perimeter in case the fire spots over current fire-lines.
The current heatwave is the longest duration for Southern California in 20 years. Residuals from Hurricane Kay are now affecting the fire area. Temperatures will be in the high 70’s over the fire area with increased moisture in the air. There is potential for thunderstorms and scattered rain showers. The thunderstorms may cause some erratic winds, but tomorrow is more of a concern.
In summary, firefighters have worked hard to get to where we are in a short time. There is
more work to be done, but good strategies are in place to stop this fire. The weather change is a heads-up to all: please evacuate if you are in evacuation order areas and be ready to go in evacuation warning areas. Let’s all get through this as safely as possible.
