Fire activity declined Sunday with increased humidity over the Tiger Fire. Although area thunderstorms to date have not supplied significant rain on the fire, they have been a daily event in the surrounding area and have increased humidity levels. The effect has been diminished fire activity as lighter fuels absorb moisture associated with higher humidity and quickly becoming less flammable and unavailable to ignite larger fuels.

Remaining heat exists in the Dead Cow Springs area and south to Horsethief Basin, all on the Tiger Fire’s western flank. There were also some interior isolated smoke columns appearing within the fire footprint as isolated pockets of fuel continued burning.

Today’s fire operations plan consists of a robust initial attack division to handle anticipated local lightning and continued point protection and suppression repair work on Crown King and Horsethief Basin roads. Crown King residents may encounter traffic delays from grading and mastication work along roads leading into and out of their community.

WEATHER:
Increasing chances of area thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds for the next three days. Possible flooding can accompany localized rain events during the same period.

EVACUATIONS:  Crown King and the Lorena Gulch Cabins remain in “SET” and Horsethief Basin is in “GO” status in accordance with Arizona’s Ready-Set-Go Program https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go

FOREST CLOSURES: Arizona’s publicly managed lands are in widely different levels of closure/restrictions. Those planning to visit Arizona’s outdoors should consult appropriate land management agency web sites immediately prior to planning a trip to determine current restrictions and emergency fire area closures. Despite extreme weather hitting the Prescott airport Sunday evening, the Tiger Fire has received little moisture from passing thunderstorms.

Tiger Fire activity declined again yesterday. Overnight an infrared flight was conducted that indicated few remaining hot spots across the fire’s footprint.  Several were detected along the western perimeter near Twin Peaks that threatened the perimeter.  Firefighters and engines isolated and contained these spots while other resources began suppression repair and rehabilitation of fire lines. Suppression repair includes installing water bars on roads and fire lines to deter erosion, chipping brush cut during fire line work, and removing tools and gear used during suppression.

Two crews departed the Tiger Fire yesterday to assist with a new lightning start southwest of Prescott.

Today’s fire operations will be continued monitoring of the fire perimeter, suppression repair, and removal of equipment and tools. Firefighting resources will also be monitoring the perimeter for continued security as the fire footprint cools.

WEATHER: Increasing chances of area thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds for the next two days. Possible flooding can accompany localized rain events during this period.

Crews also were available to provide initial attack for any new fire ignitions in our area. An incoming incident commander began getting familiar with the fire suppression work that has been conducted. Wednesday’s activities will be continued patrol, monitoring and fire suppression repair of fire lines. Rain Falls Over Tiger Fire Footprint

Size: 16,278 acres

Containment:
 59%

Cause: Lightning

Location: 11 miles east of Crown King

Start Date: June 30, 2021, 3:45 p.m.

July 15, 2021 – Management of the Tiger Fire has transitioned to a Type 4 Team.  Early morning rain yesterday arrived over the Tiger Fire footprint bringing wetting rains over the perimeter until mid-morning. Amounts of rain recorded in the fire area varied from between .01 to .6 inches. These amounts further suppressed fire activity on the fire and will allow the fire scar to begin new growth. Future rain events do have the possibility of flooding if ger amounts of rainfall occur.  Although there is no threat of fire spread or potential growth; firefighters will continue to patrol and monitor containment lines by ground and air.  Equipment removal along Crown King Road (County Road 59) was completed on Wednesday allowing for a reduced fire area closure.  Visitors are reminded to obey all traffic signs and use caution when traveling along CR 59 as firefighters and fire-related traffic will be in the area.

This will be the final news release unless there are significant changes in fire activity.

CLOSURES:  Fire Managers have reduced the Tiger Fire Emergency Area Closure.  Castle Creek Wilderness and Horsethief Basin Recreation Area will remain closed for public safety.  The community of Crown King and all road leading into Crown King are open.  To view the Fire Emergency Closure and map, please go to our Alerts & Notices.

WEATHER: Increasing chances of area thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds for the next several days. Possible flooding can accompany localized rain events during this period.

EVACUATIONS:  All Tiger Fire evacuation status designations by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office have been rescinded.

FOREST RESTRICTIONS: Arizona’s publicly managed lands are in widely different levels of restrictions. Those planning to visit Arizona’s outdoors should consult appropriate land management agency web sites immediately prior to planning a trip to determine current restrictions and emergency fire area closures. Visit: https://wildlandfire.az.gov/fire-restrictions for current restrictions.
