ANNOUNCEMENTS:

COMMUNITY MEETING-Facebook Live with the IC and Operations Thursday, July 8 at 8pm. Prescott National Forest Facebook Page
The Tiger Fire crossed a management action point Wednesday afternoon which prompted the Incident Management Team to recommend to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office that Crown King be alerted that their evacuation status has changed from “Ready” to “Set”.

ROAD CLOSURES: At the request of the incident management team, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has closed the Crown King Road (County Road 59) between Crown King and Cleator effective at 8 a.m. July 7, 2021, except for assigned fire related personnel and residents with identification. The Crown King Road was closed for the safety of firefighters using heavy equipment working in the closure area along County Road 59. The Bumblebee Road remains closed from Black Canyon City to the junction of County Roads 179 and 178.

With the community of Crown King in a “Set” status, the town is now closed to the public. Residents only will be allowed in and out.

The Tiger Fire was very active yesterday. On the north and western perimeter of the fire, the continued high temperatures and low humidity combined with burnout operations north and south along the 52 road in the vicinity of the wilderness boundary, produced a large amount of smoke during the afternoon. Other smoke columns within the fire perimeter were more visible as unburned pockets of fuel on the interior of the fire were consumed.

Crews continued to prepare the Crown King Road (County Road 59) for a possible contingency firing operation between Cleator and Crown King, should conditions require that tactic in coming days. Other crews worked patrolling, extinguishing hotspots, and securing the eastern perimeter of the fire.

WEATHER: Forecasts call for slightly less hot and dry weather with a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday along with the accompanying threat of gusty outflow winds.

EVACUATIONS:
Presently the communities of Cleator and portions of Black Canyon City are in “READY” status. Crown King and the Lorena Gulch Cabins are in “SET” status and Horsethief Basin is in “GO” status in accordance with Arizona’s Ready-Set-Go Program https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go

FOREST CLOSURES: Arizona’s publicly managed lands are in widely different levels of closure/restrictions. Those planning to visit Arizona’s outdoors should consult appropriate land management agency web sites immediately prior to planning a trip to determine current restrictions and emergency fire area closures.

FIRE CLOSURES: The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Prescott National Forest have closed County Road 177 and national forest lands generally south of County Road 177 from Mayer, west to Palace Station, except for Crown King residents with identification. Yesterday the fire perimeter between Black Canyon City north to Castle Creek and west of Bumble Bee was contained.  Due to increased humidity, the fires overall intensity slowed but remained active. Firefighters remained abreast of the fire’s westward progress in the Horsethief Basin area by using firing operations from prepared lines to direct fire movement away from structures and improvements.

Other crews worked to prepare the Crown King Road (County Road 59) for possible contingency firing operations between Cleator and Crown King, should future conditions require that tactic. Preparations for potential firing operations were also made along portions of Black Canyon Road (FS 101) as the fire moved downhill north and east toward more defensible terrain. A late afternoon rain cell dropped moisture over the northern portion of the fire.

Today firefighters are working on structure protection operations to protect Crown King. These actions include re-clearing previous fire control lines and temporarily installing pumps and sprinklers. In Horsethief Basin, crews are monitoring yesterday’s burnouts and providing point protection tactics as needed to protect structures and improvements. Other resources are monitoring the fires progress south of Cleator, ready to do a firing operation to slow or redirect the fire’s movement.

WEATHER: Forecasts call for continuing hot weather with increased chances of thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds.

EVACUATIONS: Presently the communities of Cleator and portions of Black Canyon City are in “READY” status. Crown King and the Lorena Gulch Cabins are in “SET” status and Horsethief Basin is in “GO” status in accordance with Arizona’s Ready-Set-Go Program https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go

After a thunderstorm Thursday night and its associated higher humidity, the fire was less active yesterday until late afternoon when fuels dried. Firefighters in Horsethief Basin identified one portion of a fire line that may be fired to widen the barrier as a contingency to future fire movement but wet conditions from Thursday night’s thunderstorm delayed that action. Other crews continued to prepare the Crown King Road (County Road 59) and Black Canyon Road (FS 101) for possible contingency firing operations. At Crown King, sprinkler and water line preparations remained and fire managers used a bulldozer and a hand crew to improve fire barriers constructed during previous year’s fires.

Today firefighters again work on structure protection operations to protect Crown King. In Horsethief Basin, crews are monitoring previous burnouts, providing point protection tactics as needed to protect structures and improvements, and waiting for an opportunity to fire a remaining contingency line. Other resources are monitoring the fire south of Cleator and poised to initially attack new lightning fires should they ignite from forecast thunderstorms.

WEATHER: Forecasts call for hot weather with a chance of thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds this afternoon.

EVACUATIONS: The Yavapai County Sheriff’s office Friday rescinded the Black Canyon City ”Ready” evacuation designation.   Crown King and the Lorena Gulch Cabins remain in “SET” and Horsethief Basin is in “GO” status in accordance with Arizona’s Ready-Set-Go Program https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go

An early morning dust event in the eastern Salt River Valley occurred late Friday night pushing dust over the entire Tiger Fire area, limiting visibility to less than one mile Saturday.

Saturday afternoon a new fire was reported along Interstate 17 near the Bumble Bee exit at Milepost 248. Daisy Mountain Fire Department and initial attack resources from the Tiger Fire responded to quickly halt the fire’s spread at about three acres. Interstate 17 was temporarily closed in both directions but was soon reopened. The Tiger Fire burned actively Saturday, with most columns of smoke coming from the northwestern section of the fire in the Horsethief Basin and Dead Cow Springs area. Firefighters worked on structure protection actions at Crown King, Lorena Gulch, and Horsethief Basin and evaluated conditions and need for a firing operation around Horse Thief lookout. Other crews worked to complete fire lines along Crown King Road between Crown King and Cleator.

Today firefighters remain working on structure protection operations at Crown King. In Horsethief Basin crews are providing point protection tactics as needed to protect structures and other assets, while waiting for an opportunity to fire a remaining contingency line when conditions allow. Other resources are monitoring the eastern fire line while remaining ready to attack new fires in the Team’s initial response area should ignitions result from forecast thunderstorms.

WEATHER: Forecasts call for hot weather with a chance of thunderstorms and accompanying gusty outflow winds this afternoon.
