Sneak Peek into Fire Camp
Camp Creek Fire
Publication Type: News 09/08/2023
While several hundred firefighters work long hours to contain the Camp Creek Fire, a group of people behind the scenes created and operate a place to make sure they are fed, fueled, and have a place to call home: Fire Camp. The Logistics Sections of the Incident Management Team was tasked with setting up two camps on this fire.
The first of the fire camps is the Meadows base camp, which includes an on-site caterer, a covered eating area, and various yurts set up as temporary offices to hand out supplies, provide medical treatment, and house other support services.
When a crew's commute to and from base camp to their assigned portion of the fireline becomes too long, they may camp closer to their work location in order to maximize the amount of work they can accomplish and reduce safety concerns regarding driving. This additional camp, referred to as a spike camp, was set up for this purpose.
