Black Feather Fire
Publication Type: News 08/14/2023
Special Statement
This is the final smoke outlook for north-central NM. Should smoke impacts increase in the coming days, new outlooks will be posted.
Fire
The Black Feather Fire is 0% contained and has burned an estimated 2,198 acres.
Smoke
Overall, GOOD air quality conditions are expected through the period. Today's expected cooler-than-average temperatures along with a 70% chance of wetting rainfall will continue to limit fire activity and smoke production. Smoke impacts, if any, are expected to remain minimal and localized to areas near the fire perimeters the next several days. Of greater concern will be the potential for localized flash flooding over and near the Black Feather Fire this afternoon and evening where a Flood Watch has been posted from Noon MDT today through 9PM MDT. The potential for wetting rainfall decreases and daytime temperatures trend upward Tuesday and Wednesday but a favorable monsoon pattern may return late in the week.
