August 15, 2023  Daily Fire Update    Bedrock Fire Quick Facts  Size: 25,780 acres Origin: Willamette National Forest Resources: 59 engines;  Containment: 20% Cause: Under Investigation 26 crews; *9 helicopters;   Total personnel: 1071 Start Date: July 22, 2023 11 dozers, 34 water tenders  Salmon Fire Quick Facts  Size: 135 acres Origin: Willamette National Forest Resources: 3 engines;  Containment: 80% Cause: Under Investigation 1 crew; 1 water tender;  

Bedrock Fire: Yesterday afternoon multiple spot fires across primary containment lines grew together along the 1817 road in the northwestern portion of the fire. Heavy helicopters used water bucket drops to slow fire spread, and firefighters today will be focused on securing this area of new fire growth. There was active fire behavior last night and a small “slopover” occurred on the western fire edge where fire crossed over containment lines; night crews quickly secured this area to prevent further fire spread.

 

Bedrock Fire: Heavy helicopters were active on the north end of the fire yesterday, flying water buckets to cool and slow fire growth. Firefighters on the northwestern portion of the fire are continuing to prepare control lines for burnout operations to secure these lines and are conducting these burnouts as weather conditions allow. Yesterday there was a visible smoke column from these burnout operations.

Community Meeting:  There will be a community meeting tonight at 6 PM at the Oakridge High School auditorium in Oakridge. Fire managers and agency representatives will be available for questions after the meeting. The virtual community meeting from last night can be viewed on the Bedrock Fire Facebook  page.

Bedrock and Salmon Fires News - 08/08/2023 Tactical burning is planned to secure lines on the northern edge of the Bedrock Fire today. Smoke from this operation is expected to be visible.  Community Meeting:  There will be a virtual community meeting on Wednesday, August 9 at 6 PM on the Bedrock Fire Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BedrockFire2023/.
