SONORA, California, May 18, 2023 – Weather and conditions dependent, fire managers with the Stanislaus National Forest’s Summit Ranger District will begin prescribed fire operations near the town of Strawberry, Thursday, May 25. The burn will continue into June as conditions allow. The majority of the burn units are located north of Highway 108 in between the Cold Springs and Leland Meadows.
SONORA, California June 27, 2023 – With more than 4,000 acres treated with prescribed fire in the Strawberry, Dry Meadow, South Fork, and the Experimental Forest burn units complete and an extended warming trend entering the area, prescribed fire operations on the Summit District for the Spring season have come to a close.
SONORA, California, May 30, 2023 – Fire managers have made good progress on the Strawberry Prescribed Fire having burned nearly 500 acres as of May 30. Motorists driving along the Highway 108 corridor may notice fire and smoke along the roadway as well as fire apparatus beginning Wednesday, June 1 and continuing June 9.
