Oak Fire Final Update 8/5/22

Today will be the last Daily Update for the Oak Fire, unless significant fire activity occurs.

Suppression repair continues throughout the fire area to improve damage occurred during suppression of the fire. Minimal fire behavior was observed. Containment continues to rise. The fire is holding within control lines. Firefighters aggressively work to improve containment as they mop up hot spots and do tactical patrols throughout the fire area. All evacuations have been lifted. Excess resources will continue to be released. CAL FIRE Incident management team 5 will transition the fire back to CAL FIRE Merced Mariposa Unit tomorrow.

Suppression repair continues throughout the fire area. Minimal fire was observed overnight. Containment continues to rise. The fire is holding within control lines. Fire crews continue to mop up hot spots and do tactical patrols throughout the fire area. On the northeast side of the fire, crews continue working to increase containment and strengthen control lines. Unpopulated areas of the fire remain closed. Excess resources will continue to be released.

All Evacuation Orders and Fire Advisements have been lifted in populated areas. Firefighters are working on the northeastern side of the fire to increase containment, and the strengthening of control lines continues in the Devil’s Gulch area. Suppression repair work continues. It will be mostly cloudy today with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. There has been little change in humidity and temperature. Over 100 miles of fire hose remain on the fire.

There has been little change on fire conditions over the last few days. Containment continues to increase. Fire crews continue to mop up hot spots and do tactical patrols throughout the fire area. In the Devil’s Gulch area, crews continue working to increase containment and strengthen control lines. On the northeastern side of the fire, several hot spots were detected by helicopter and crews are working to mitigate the hot spots. Suppression repair is ongoing.

All Evacuation Orders and Fire Advisements have been lifted in populated areas. Over 100 miles of fire hose remain on the fire. Crews continue working around the clock to increase containment. Fire suppression work continues in the Devil’s Gulch area, two crews were flown in by helicopter to reinforce containment lines and to prevent material from rolling over the line. Suppression repair efforts are ongoing. There has been little change in humidity and temperature.

Containment is rising as crews strengthen control lines. In the Devil’s Gulch and Owl Creek area, control lines are holding and are being reinforced. Suppression repair efforts are underway in areas of the fire that are no longer posing a potential risk of escape. These repairs minimize potential soil erosion and impacts resulting from fire suppression activities. Today’s temperature is forecast to be nearly the same as yesterday. Damage inspections are 100% complete.

Fire crews continue to make progress on gaining containment. Control lines are holding and are being reinforced in the Devil’s Gulch and Owl Creek area. Current fire behavior is minimal. Suppression repair efforts are underway in areas of the fire that are no longer posing a potential risk of escape. There is a slight chance for isolated light showers into the evening. Damage inspections are complete.

The fire is holding at Devil’s Gulch, crews continue their efforts to strengthen control lines. There was no growth on the fire overnight. Crews are patrolling and working in areas where smoldering and some interior pockets of heat were observed, within the fire perimeter. The fire is holding within control lines. Suppression repair efforts have begun. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity are expected to continue. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Damage inspections are nearly complete.

There was no growth on the fire overnight and containment increased by 5%. Firefighters continue their complex operation in the Devil’s Gulch area on the northeast side of the fire, building and securing control lines in incredibly steep and rugged terrain. Temperatures are expected to drop, and humidity should increase today. Work will continue to address hazards and restore infrastructure within the fire perimeter. Damage inspections are still underway.
