The Custer County Sheriff is going to try to get some residents into their properties on Saturday morning, August 31. Please carefully follow the instructions.
Lower Stanley and Gateway Community moved to Set Evacuation Status on 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 29. Residents can return home. Casino Zone moved from SET TO READY at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 29.
WAPITI FIRE COMMUNITY MEETINGThursday, August 29, 2024, 6 p.m.Stanley Community Building, 500 Eva Falls Avenue, Stanley, IdahoThe Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Team 1 members and local authorities will provide information on the status of the Wapiti Fire.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office has moved the lower section of Zone 2 (including Lower Stanley) status back to ready and residents are allowed to return home.  In addition, Casino Zone has moved back to Ready status. Zone 2 (which includes Stanley) and Zone 3 remains in set status.  Zones 4 and 5 have been placed in READY status.

We will have Public Information Officers (PIOs) and information boards throughout the communities tomorrow to get in-person updates. PIOs on the Lowman side will be at the Sourdough Lodge located at 8406 ID-21 Lowman, Idaho for their Pop-up tomorrow August 29 from 4-6pm.  Come down to see us!

Fire activity has increased on the Wapiti Fire this afternoon. Reports from Division KK are winds are gusty and erratic. Firefighters are lined up along the road and existing firelines patrolling for spot fires. One spot fire has been confirmed and is established across Hwy 21.  A helicopter is currently providing support with water drops and additional crews are enroute.
The Boise County Sheriff's Office is making changes and upgrading subdivisions due to increased fire activity. Additionally, they are placing all homes along the Highway 21 corridor from milepost 82 to 85 under a Level 1 evacuation alert, advising residents to be prepared.

Fire activity has increased on the Wapiti Fire and the fire is moving into Crooked Creek. A very large air tankers (VLAT) and large air tankers (LAT) have been ordered to create a retardant line south of Iron Creek and east of highway 21. This retardant line will also serve as a line between the fire and Stanley.
