Firefighters worked throughout the day yesterday extinguishing heat next to the containment line. This is labor intensive work as they dig out stump holes and open up dozer berms to expose buried heat under the dirt. Last night crews continued to patrol for visible hot spots along Highway 97 and Highway 62. Crews worked through the night to extinguish what they could and marked areas they did not get to for the day shift.
It will be warmer and drier with light winds over the fire area today. The extended weather forecast shows an increasing chance of precipitation over the fire late this week.
Firefighter and public safety is the priority during this incident, including COVID mitigation. Personnel will be following Center for Disease Control guide-lines to limit personal interactions both within camp and with the local communi-ty. The incident command post and fire camp are closed to the public and media.

Fire Summary:Great progress was made yesterday as crews are getting close to meeting the 100 foot depth of blackened perimeter around the fire. In some areas crews have gone beyond the 100’ to eliminate visible smokes that are well into the interior.
One of today’s goals will focus on locating hazard trees and removing them. Snags pose a threat to firefighter’s safety as well as public safety. Crews will continue removing hazards around homes, including snags and hot spots.
Weather will remain slightly cooler today over the fire. We did not receive the rain that was expected yesterday. But nonetheless, cooler weather significantly helps in suppression efforts with higher humidity and lower tempera-tures keeping fire activity low. Tomorrow, warmer weather is expected which will help firefighters identify hot spots. With a warm up in the weather any hot spots that have not been extinguished will show themselves during the late afternoon hours.

There has been heavy traffic through both Highway 97 and Highway 62 where crews are working. As a remind-er, for firefighter and public safety, if you are traveling through the fire area please slow down and use caution.
The two fires outside the main fire, the Dam Fire and the Cattle fire, are fully contained and in patrol status. Those fires will continue to be monitored periodically through the next couple weeks.
With the cooler weather expected today, it will help firefighters in their containment efforts. The northwest section of the fire continues to be the most difficult area. With slightly higher relative humidity today and a slight chance of rain, crews will be able to use that to their advantage. Moving into next week warm and dry conditions will be back to normal.

Fire Summary:Approximately 150 National Guard troops will join firefighters to assist with containing the fire. Their primary responsibility will be to find hot spots and extinguish them. They will also be laying hose to get water to the interior of the fire.
Today, crews started diligently removing hot spots. Crews worked on both widening the control line and clearing heat near houses. Tonight and tomorrow, crews will continue mopping up the hot spots. The goal is to have wide control lines before mid-day tomorrow. Once a fire has a wide, fuel-free, and cooled buffer along the line, it's contained. It's a long process, and tomorrow's weather will test the work completed so far.
For tomorrow, weather forecasters predict increased winds from 11am-9pm. These winds will be from the southeast, pushing the fire to the northwest. This will test the control lines. The goal is to hold the fire within its current footprint throughout the wind event.
The heavy smoke has lowered the air quality, which is in the un-healthy category. The Oregon Smoke Information website has more infor-mation about the current air quality. The website is: http://oregonsmoke.blogspot.com/
