Omak, WA – Today: The area like most of Eastern Washington is dealing with smoke from the south. These conditions will stick around through the day while crews are on the line. Firefighters today will continue their focus on the northeast portion of the fire which is the Omak Lake and Haley Creek area where they will work on direct attack and constructing primary and secondary line. Dozers and tenders will work the old mill area by pulling apart the large wood piles that are still smoldering. Firefighters will continue to strengthen containment lines and patrol areas that have good containment. Crews are still assisting the power companies with burned trees near the power lines to make their work areas safe. Omak Lake and Haley Creek area are still under level 2 and 3 evacuation levels.
Power and cell phone coverage will continue to be a challenge in some areas due to hundreds of power poles destroyed and cell phone towers damaged or destroyed during initial attack. Residents will see smoke from the interior of the fire for several days. Crews are patrolling these areas to keep an eye on these hot spots.
The Cold Springs Fire started Sunday evening and is 188,852 acres with 45% containment. There are approximately 283 firefighters from local agencies and from around the region that are engaged in firefighting operations.
Several structures and outbuildings were damaged and/or lost during initial attack. The team is continuing structure assessments.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an infant and serious injury of 2 individuals that were found Wednesday within the fire perimeter.
Okanogan County Fairgrounds is open for livestock and has areas for RV campers. The Red Cross is coordinating shelter for those that have been evacuated. Omak, WA – Smokey conditions hindered efforts on the Cold Springs fire today. Aircraft were only able to fly for a short period of time due to limited visibility. The northeast portion of the fire which consists of Omak Lake and Haley Creek areas continue to be the main objective but is difficult due to the steep terrain. Omak, WA – Over the last 24 hours crews have made significant progress on the fire and it’s now 40% contained. Yesterday and overnight containment lines were strengthened, and additional line was constructed by dozers and crews. The northeast portion of the fire which consists of Omak Lake and Haley Creek areas are the main priority at this time. The plan for today is to strengthen containment lines by working in from the perimeter. Smoke conditions are expected to worsen from the fires in the south. Aircraft will assist firefighters once again today if the smoke conditions allow. Omak Lake and Haley Lake area are still under level 2 and 3 evacuation levels.
Power companies are working in the area to replace several hundred poles that were damaged or burned in the fire. Firefighters will continue to work with power crews to clear trees that have burned to keep the area safe to work in. Omak, WA – Today: Crews continue to build containment lines around the perimeter of the fire. Along the eastside of Omak Lake, steep rocky terrain hindered dozer operations so firefighters had to construct the line in that area with hand tools. Several aircraft assisted with those efforts on the ground by keeping the fire at bay. The work by the crews has been successful so far. Omak Lake and Haley Lake area are still under level 2 and 3 evacuation levels.
Power companies are working on replacing over 700 power poles that were damaged or burned. Firefighters are working with them to make sure the areas are safe to work in. Some cell phone communication towers were burned over in the fire and there is limited service in the area for some customers. The fire is 187,689 acres and due to the significant progress of firefighters and aircraft the containment is now 40%. Temperatures were in the 90’s today and are expected to be the same tomorrow.

Omak, WA – Last night: Crews overnight night worked to strengthen containment lines that are in place and create additional containment line.
Today: Priorities today will focus on the area east of Omak Lake and the Haley Lake area. This area is where the most fire activity is and firefighters on the ground will be assisted by bucket operations from a helicopter. One other priority is shoring up the Old Mill area in town. The mill and the area around the mill is smoldering and crews look to cool off that area. Dozer and hand lines will be shored up and firefighters will work in from the perimeter of the fire on hot spots. Power companies are working on replacing poles and to restore power in affected areas. A reconnaissance helicopter flight is scheduled this morning to get a better idea of the areas burned. The fire is 187,689 acres and is 25% contained. Temperatures will be in the low 90’s and humidity levels will be in the low teens.

Omak, WA – The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an infant and serious injury of 2 individuals that were found yesterday within the fire perimeter. Structures and outbuildings were damaged and/or lost during initial attack. The team is continuing structure assessments.
Today: Priorities consisted on focusing on the area east of Omak Lake. Firefighters worked in steep rocky terrain assisted by four fire boss planes dropping water in the area. Safety measures were taken to protect water resources while retardant was dropped in the Haley Creek Area to protect homes. Due to the hard work of the crews the containment area of the fire is now 25%. Power Company began restoring damaged poles and working on restoring infrastructure. Citizens are urged to stay out of the burn area if possible. We continue to receive additional resources for the fire. The fire is 187,689 acres. Temperatures were in the low 90’s today and are expected to stay in the 90’s for the rest of the week.

Omak, WA – The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of an infant and serious injury of 2 individuals that were found yesterday within the fire perimeter. Multiple structures have been lost and level 2 & 3 evacuation orders are in place.
Crews made good progress yesterday and overnight. Overnight crews worked on containment lines in all 3 divisions of the fire with the main focus being the Haley Creek area. This is the area where the most active fire is located, and additional crews are working in that area today. We continue to receive additional resources and aircraft will be available to assist firefighters on the ground as needed. Firefighters will continue the process of assessing properties that were lost as well as damaged infrastructure. Warmer weather is expected today with light winds.
The Cold Springs Fire started Sunday evening at approximately 9:45 pm. and quickly spread due to high winds and low relative humidity. The fire is currently estimated at 172,000 acres with 10% containment. Firefighters from Mt. Tolman Fire Center, Okanogan County Fire Districts 3, 6, 8, & 15 along with Washington State Department of Natural Resources and numerous federal, state and other local agencies continue to assist with fire suppression. There are approximately 275 firefighters engaged in firefighting operations.

Air resources were effective today and supported the firefighting on the ground. Structure protection continues to be the primary focus for day and night shifts.
