South of the Jack, firefighters are slowly working their way down the 100 road to the 2871 road slowly and methodically using fire to consume fuels between them and the main fire. Over the next few days, they will tie the line into the Near Minky, securing the western edge of the Buckhead and Near Minky fires.
Near Minky Fire: The Near Minky fire is at 4,833 acres. This fire is located south of the Jack and Buckhead fires. The eastern edge and a portion of the western edge have been contained. The east winds that cleared the smoke out of Crater Lake and Chiloquin yesterday will return this morning. This afternoon W winds in the Toketee area may push smoke back into Crater Lake and degrade conditions at Diamond Lake even more. Additional smoke may move into the I-5 corridor between Roseburg and Grants Pass today.
Health: Exposure to wildfire smoke can cause health problems that range from minor to severe. Some symptoms include: burning eyes, runny nose, sore throat, headache, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath; worsening of lung, heart, and circulatory conditions, mental health concerns and psychological stress. Smoke: Color codes for communities on the map show 24 hour averages. Smoke models show the smoke clearing out of the I-5 corridor between Roseburg and Grants Pass today and Sunday. Variable smoke impacts may be seen south to southeast of the fires through the day today, improving this evening, and worsening again overnight. Unhealthy air quality will impact communities east of the fires today with conditions improving Sunday afternoon.
Health: Limit outdoor activity during periods of unhealthy air quality. Wear an N95 mask if your spending time outside. Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory issues are more sensitive to the negative effects from smoke. Keep the air conditioner in your car set on recirculate while travelling to improve air quality in your vehicle.

Rough Patch and Jack Fire Update Sept 5 2021
Related Incident:
Publication Type: News
Summary: The Rough Patch Complex and Jack fire are being managed under a full suppression strategy using direct and indirect tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources. With the warmer weather, the potential for fire to spot ahead of itself is higher. Firefighters will be watching for spots and holding and improving lines. A night operational shift will be staffed starting tonight to allow crews to take advantage of nighttime burning windows where weather conditions are more favorable. The goal is to secure the northern side of the Chaos and the western edge of Jack, Buckhead and Near Minky.
Chaos and Little Bend Fires: The Chaos fire is at 22,090 acres and the Little Bend fire is at 7,585 acres. Work continues on the north side of the Chaos fire along the 176 road toward Shane Saddle. Crews are working to add some depth to the line to secure it. Fire was active in City Creek yesterday, as well as on the southern end of the Little Bend fire, and along the 3821 road. Today, crews will be working on improving lines and watching for spots on the southern end of both fires, as well as the northern end of the Chaos fire where they conducted burning operations last night.
Jack and Buckhead Fires: The Jack fire is at 23,897 acres and the Buckhead fire is at 5,541 acres. The west, north, and northeast end of the Jack fire has been contained and is being patrolled. Additional work is being done along the 100 road prior to continuing the burning operations down to the Near Minky fire. Fire activity has picked up along that southwestern edge of the Jack and northwest edge of the Buckhead.
Near Minky Fire: The Near Minky fire is at 4,867 acres. This fire is located south of the Jack and Buckhead fires. The eastern edge and a portion of the western edge have been contained. Burning operations off the 700 road were successful in stopping the forward progression of a spot outside the main fire.
Weather: Temperatures will remain in the 80’s with relative humidity slightly higher than yesterday. Variable winds and warmer and drier temperatures increase the potential for more active fire behavior. Closures and Additional Information:

South Oregon Cascades Rough Patch & Devils Knob Complex, and Jack Fire
Issued at: 2021-09-07 07:24 PDT
Fire and Weather:
Low pressure moving northward west of the coast will bring gusty winds to inland areas Tuesday afternoon and evening. Gusty winds will continue Wednesday east of the Cascades. If the smoke clears enough today to launch aircraft the Devils Knob Complex is planning on burning up to 5,000 acres. The Rough Patch Complex is planning smaller scale ignitions as well. Both Complexes successfully completed burnouts yesterday. Facebook and Inciweb have additional fire information.
Smoke: East wind along the I-5 corridor between Roseburg and Grants Pass will transport smoke into the corridor resulting in degraded air quality today. Expect Unhealthy to Hazardous air quality through the forecast area today with improvements Wednesday. Although high level SW winds have transported CA smoke over the forecast area the smoke is not expected to mix down and impact local air quality. Unfortunately, with two levels of smoke overhead, significant winds will be needed for extended periods of time to clear the airshed.

Rough Patch and Jack Fire Update Sept 7 2021
Related Incident:
Publication Type: News
Summary: The Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fires are being managed under a full suppression strategy. Fire activity is moderated by lingering smoke but may increase if it lifts. Firefighters will monitor and mop up fire lines as they cool to secure the fire perimeter. Air and ground operations are coordinating with the Devil’s Knob Complex fires as the complexes begin to share air space.
Chaos and Little Bend Fires: The Chaos fire is at 22,860 acres and the Little Bend fire is at 7,744 acres. Hoses were laid down along the 2460 road to support the containment line to the north. Nearby, burning operations along the 176 road are progressing well as crews make their way past Grouse Saddle to the 3829 road. South of the Little Bend Fire, heavy equipment is being used to stabilize road conditions along the 3810 as crews move east toward the 5850 road.
Jack and Buckhead Fires: The Jack fire is at 23,990 acres and the Buckhead fire is at 5,714 acres. The west, north, and northeast end of the Jack fire has been contained and is being patrolled. On the west edge, burning operations were completed to connect the 100 road to the 2871, joining the Jack and Buckhead fires. Continued nighttime shifts will ensure that there are no gaps in coverage. This is the last major section of this priority containment line.
Near Minky Fire: The Near Minky fire is at 4,867 acres. It is located south of the Jack and Buckhead fires. All but the northwestern edge of the fire has been contained. As conditions allow firing operations along the 100 road will continue to join Buckhead and Near Minky fires. Firefighters will continue to patrol and mop up to secure the fire’s edge from previous burning operations.
Weather: Conditions remain hot and dry, with temperatures in the upper 80s and relative humidity hovering between around 20%. Shifting winds will pick up throughout the day but terrain-driven pockets of smoke may endure.
