OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST ORDER NO. 06-09-24-10

2620 Fire Area Closure

Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the area described below and shown in Exhibit A on the Olympic National Forest. These prohibitions will be effective beginning August 15, 2024, until September 15, 2024, unless rescinded earlier.

PROHIBITIONS:

1)Going into or being upon an area closed for the protection of public health or safety. [36

CFR 261.53(e)].

2)Being on a National Forest System Road. [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].

3)Being on a National Forest System Trail. [36 CFR § 261.55(a)].

CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION:

All National Forest System (NFS) lands are closed to all occupancy and travel within the described

closure area boundary and as shown on the attached map (Exhibit A):

From the point where NFS Road 2510 crosses the forest boundary at T 25 N, R 2 W, on the border between sections 7 and 8. North along the forest boundary to NFS Road 2610-012, west along the southern edge of the NFS Road 2610-012 to the terminus of NFS Road 2610-012, north to the Dosewallips River, west along the south bank of Dosewallips River to the Olympic National Park Boundary, continuing south along the Olympic National Park Boundary to the point directly west of St Peters Dome, east to St Peters Dome, southeast to Trap Pass, southeast to North Rock, east to Fulton Creek, east along the north bank of Fulton Creek to its junction with the 2510 road, east to the Olympic National Forest Boundary, north along the Olympic National Boundary to its junction with NFS Road 2510 at T 25 N, R 2 W, on the border between sections 7 and 8 and the point of beginning. (See Exhibit A).

ROAD CLOSURE DESCRIPTION

Travel is prohibited on all NFS Roads within the closure area, including spur roads within the closure area. (Exhibit A).

The closure of NFS Road 2510 begins at T 25 N, R 2 W, on the border between sections 7 and 8, and ends at its junction with Fulton Creek.

TRAIL CLOSURE DESCRIPTION

Travel is prohibited on all NFS Trails within the closure area boundary, as shown on the attached map (Exhibit A).

DEVELOPED RECREATION SITES

All trailheads and campgrounds within the closure area are closed as shown on the attached map (Exhibit A).

EXEMPTIONS:

Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:

1.Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force inthe performance of an official duty.

2.Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, orAreas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting them from this order.

 

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. Executed in Olympia, Washington this day of August 2024.

Violations of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B Misdemeanor, by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or

$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 USC § 551; 18 USC § 3559 and 18USC § 3571).
