Air Restrictions: As crews continue to work on the 2620 Road fire a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire which is in effect 24/7. If you fly, we can’t.

Update: Today crews will continue to work on line construction in the upper ends of the fire with full suppression efforts as the end goal. Erratic winds have continued to threaten unburned fuels and firefighters are working to keep those areas in check. In some areas of the fire, mop-up efforts have begun, and crews are working on existing lines, checking for damage from the wind and strengthening them to withstand future wind events. The cooler temperatures present firefighters with an opportunity to increase the amount of line construction. Also associated with cooler temperatures are the winds that can rekindle hotspots near the fire lines thus requiring firefighters to resuppress these rekindled hotspots.

We are now at 415 resources currently assigned to the 2620 Road Fire. These resources include firefighters, engines, water tenders, dozers, helicopters, and overhead support. A Department of Natural Resources mobile kitchen is on site to feed all staff working the fire. We have shower facilities and plenty of room for firefighters and overhead to sleep. The outpour of support from the local community has been felt by all and we are extremely grateful.

Please stay out of the fire area while crews continue fire suppression efforts and use caution on the roadways, remaining aware of fire vehicles that may require longer stopping distance.

The percentage of containment can sometimes be a confusing term. A fire is considered contained when a control line has been established around the fire, and the fire is not expected to spread. Fireline supervisors evaluate these control lines daily to determine the percentage of actual fire containment based off of current and expected fire behavior.  Keep in mind that percentages can increase or decrease, during the life of a fire, depending on fire activity.

Weather: Today, rain showers are anticipated throughout the day with a chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures during the day will have a high of 70 with a low of 53 tonight. We also anticipate some hazy weather this afternoon and evening with some gusty winds.

Road Closures: Duckabush Road and Mt. Jupiter Road (2620 Road) remain closed except for residents on these roads.

Forest Closures:  Olympic National Forest has updated closures are located at www.fs.usda.gov and Olympic National Forest – Alert and Closures web page
