FIRE SITUATION
Diligent work by firefighters on the Thompson Ridge Fire has increased containment to 29%.
Scattered thunderstorms remain in the area and have moved over much of the Thompson Ridge Fire the last few days, with more expected this weekend. The fire has received minimal to moderate amounts of moisture. Cooler temperatures and increased fuel moistures have resulted in moderate fire behavior. There is a less chance of spotting across the fireline, and very little surface movement of the fire. But crews continue to find heat in the heavy fuels underneath thick canopies.
The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) is continuing to be utilized to identify sporadic heat signatures across the northeast, and southwest sections of the fire. Once located, these areas of concern can be approached and mitigated by ground crews. On the southeast portion of the fire, heavy equipment is being utilized to repair previously constructed control lines. With a break in the rain yesterday, crews were able to complete indirect fireline on the northwest portion of the fire. Crews in that area will now be backhauling gear and repairing spike camps.
Firefighters on the line were able to ground truth the perimeter and get a more accurate acreage of 7,253.
EVACUATIONS: None at this time.
CLOSURES: Please refer to closure order. Please note that SR-153, Kent’s Lake Road (137), Upper and Lower Kent’s Lake, Little Res. Campground, Anderson Meadow, and LeBaron remain open at this time. Use caution in and around these areas, as you will see an influx of both ground and aviation equipment working to suppress the fire.
