Thompson Ridge Fire Update, Aug. 15, 2023

Thompson Ridge Fire
Publication Type: News 08/16/2023

Community meeting at the Beaver City Offices this evening, Tuesday, August 15 at 6 p.m.

FIRE SITUATION

The Thompson Ridge Fire is now 15% contained, thanks to the hard work of firefighters. The area has received some monsoonal moisture with the recent storms. Cooler, damper conditions remain, but winds may increase fire activity when wind direction and terrain align.

The western portion of the fire received the most precipitation, up to half an inch in some areas. While firefighters work throughout the day, they will take necessary precaution to stay safe through the predicted thunderstorms. Observed fire behavior has been moderate, but heavy fuels are still holding heat in some portions of the fire.

The crews that were inserted on the southern perimeter are working diligently to cover the large amount of area, completing suppression tactics along the edge. Firefighters on the northern perimeter have been fully inserted and will be spiking out in the area to reduce travel time. They will continue building indirect line to secure the area, in case the fire does move that direction. Direct attack is not possible in the area, due to terrain and topography. The northeast corner has seen little smoke the last few shifts. Crews in the area are mopping up, and will continue to hold and improve the line there. The southeast corner is where fire managers have declared containment. Firefighters on this perimeter will begin discussions of suppression repair. Helicopters continue to support firefighters on the ground with bucket drops.

Great Basin Team 5 will host a community meeting in Beaver tonight, Tuesday, 8/15 at 6 p.m. at the City Center. This meeting will be streamed on the Fishlake National Forest Facebook page for those who are unable to attend in-person.

EVACUATIONS: None at this time.

CLOSURES: Please refer to closure order. Please note that SR-153, Kent’s Lake Road (137), Upper and Lower Kent’s Lake, Little Res. Campground, Anderson Meadow, and LeBaron remain open at this time. Use caution in and around these areas, as you will see an influx of both ground and aviation equipment working to suppress the fire.
