FIRE SITUATION
Thanks to rain, cooler temperatures, and high humidity, the Thompson Ridge Fire has seen little growth the last few days. Due to difficult-to-access terrain, crews are doing extensive scouting to determine best opportunities for suppression before significant progress can be made.
On the northeast flank of the fire, crews will continue to go direct where the fire has burned into the Pole Creek burn scar. Dozer line on the southeast of the fire perimeter is being mapped for future restoration, as firefighters push west of Birch Creek Road. Firefighters will continue to actively scout for line construction opportunities around the western half of the fire area today. Helicopters will continue to assist suppression operations with bucket drops as they are able.
Today’s forecast is for more thunderstorms with potential for brief moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the fire area. Temperatures will be cooler, ranging from the 60s to the 70s, with the elevation. Winds may gust to 35 mph as the storm system moves through this afternoon. Fire behavior is expected to be mild again today as monsoonal moisture continues.
Although this fire is burning in an area that was previously identified for a future prescribed burn, current conditions would not result in meeting prescribed fire objectives. As a result, Fishlake National Forest determined this to be a full suppression fire from the beginning.
Evacuations: None
Closures: Please refer to UPDATED closure order. Note the following clarification: SR-153, Kent’s Lake Road (137), Upper and Lower Kent’s Lake, Little Res. Campground, Anderson Meadow, and LeBaron are open at this time. Please use caution in and around these areas that remain open, as you will see an influx of both ground and aviation equipment working to suppress the fire.
