Monkey Creek Fire Daily Update

Containment: 90%

Start Date: August 8, 2023

Cause: Unknown

 

Around 6 p.m. on August 9, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance on a fire burning 8 miles South of Quanah in Hardeman County, Texas. The fire is burning in juniper shrub and grass fuels.

Yesterday Crews worked to improve the containment lines and perform extensive mop up operations, Today crews will patrol the containment lines and continue to mop up areas of concern. Last night the fire received 2 inches of rain which helped moderate fire activity.

Two EMTF modules, Elm Fork hand Crew, and various overhead have been reassigned to the Campbell fire, and the Texas A&M Forest Service San Angelo Taskforce has returned to their home unit.

 

Evacuations:

Copper Breaks State Park has opened back up to the public.
