Structures: Several structures at Copper Breaks State Park threatened.
Evacuations: There are evacuations in place at Copper Breaks State Park.
The Monkey Creek Fire started on August 9, 2023, and was responded to by multiple fire departments from Hardeman County. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested for assistance at 6:00 p.m. and responded with aviation resources, heavy equipment, and engines from Texas A&M Forest Service and out of state resources assisting.
Closures: There are no road closures at this time.
Yesterday: Agency crews arrived on scene with dozers to begin constructing containment line around the fire, crews also performed structure protection for many of the structures at Copper Breaks State Park.
Today: Crews are going to continue containment line construction, engine crews will perform mop-up operations and aviation resources will assist with cooling flanks and the fire head, slowing any potential spread so that dozer crews can safely construct containment line.
Weather and Fire Behavior: Temperatures are expected to be slightly lower and humidity slightly higher than yesterday, and winds are not expected to be as severe.
